  1. That may be the optimal speed they work at, but my hook2 shows decent imaging all the way down to 1 mph. If the tripleshot transducer is capable of that, anything is. The Hook also doesn't give you the option for scroll speed adjustment on anything other than 2D.
  2. He'll have to drop the Lowrance off the list, too, unless he moves up to a non "X" model of the Hook. X models do not support external mapping.
  3. If you hope to track down electrical issues on your own, then this is basically a necessity. Like J Francho mentioned, you can get a cheap one at HF.
  4. You'll never even come close to damaging anything with that size range. More affordable quality options are slowly but surely coming to the market. Ampere Time and Miyady are two Amazon offerings that have been highly recommended
  5. I suggest staying away from the budget options and spending the money on a quality reel. You'll cut the learning curve down significantly by starting with a smooth, easily adjustable reel. You don't have to go out and buy a Steeze or a Metanium, there's plenty of good, mid priced options
  6. There's... a lot to break down here, and I'm gonna try to not cramp my thumbs. Short answer is that unless you're pushing your motor full blast for an extensive amount of time, your motor will be fine. Lifepo4's charge to 14.4v, and have a resting voltage of 13.6v,. The battery will also maintain 13v+ until its at 80% discharge. Basically, running at full power, a normal battery will lose voltage and die before your motor starts smoking. Who really knows where the point of damage lies. But even with 150ah Lifepo4's, I've never once heard of anybody actually damaging their motor. Could it potentially cause damage? Yeah, I guess. Will it most likely, almost certainly be fine? Yes.
  7. Unless you bank fish a ton, and plan on using it a lot while you are, these aren't really the best choice. You can get a dedicated 5" graph with DI (SI if you shop the used market) and a battery for it around the same price. It's easy enough to build a cell block type container, or just buy one, that will keep everything together and easily portable
  8. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-BMAF.html?from=basres I the one A-Jay mentioned at home for storing/spooling line. But there's this one, too
  9. Spool will be the same part for either retrieve
  10. I can't really think of any reason to use anything over 20# for jigs. Wasn't really aware people even did this.
  11. What could possibly be a pain about options for different needs? The difference in weight between the Outback and PA12 is only 20 lbs. Once you start getting into kayaks too heavy to "throw and go", it's getting carted or trailered around, anyway.
  12. https://www.yakattack.us/parknpole-link-pnpl-8/ Comes in 2 pieces, and they offer extensions if you need.
  13. You'd think Garmin would have updated their information in the past 21 years...
  14. That's pretty exciting news, good for them! Nail, meet head.
  15. The YouTube market went from nonexistent to flooded literally over night. He may be one of the more popular channels, but he still has to adapt to continue to grow his reach. Will he lose a couple followers like you and I? Probably. Will he gain 20 more younger followers to replace us? Yup. Matt and Tim are an anomaly. They provide good, factual information, then show you how it works. Why? Because they enjoy it, and don't expect anything in return. I've literally seen Elite pros shove the bait they were catching em on in their pockets so no one would see it. While they are successful, Matt and Tim also have jobs, and neither rely on YouTube monetization or sponsor deals to pay the bills. I wish we could have more people like them in the industry, but that's not how the world works.
  16. I go to work every day and for 12 hours, I do things that I don't really wanna do, because that's how I get paid. Same difference.
  17. Absolutely. Once you reach a determined amount of followers, YT will "monetize" your channel. Meaning you get money every time someone watches your video. But it's really the sponsorships that'll pay the mortgage. Sponsors that are interested in partnering with people with a large audience, for obvious reasons. Ben Milliken is a great example of someone you could easily watch go from a guy who just thought it'd be cool to post a few videos, to "recently bought a nice house on some land, and got a brand new boat, and truck, all paid forwith sponsorship money". And the boat is actually a sponsorship deal, so... You now have an easily identifiable way to see how many people your angler's reach out to, and how many people see your company's products and logos. This is now how every industry in the world reaches potential customers, and angler's will easily be forgotten if they refuse to adapt.
  18. Lucky you, the rest of us wish we could forget.
  19. Obviously using both makes life easier, but technically you can eliminate the braking system and just use your thumb, and your reel will work. Unless you're ok with only 10 feet, you can't eliminate using your thumb and rely solely on the brakes.
  20. There's a video floating around of a bass hitting a block of wood that someone put some treble hooks on. So the idea that some piece of tackle "doesn't work" is silly. They're tools, and they have specific situations where they are the best tool, and other times there is a better option. The only time I'd agree with a tackle purchase being a waste is if you bought something of junk quality. Other than restocking lost/damaged/tired baits, I pretty much only buy new types of tackle if I know it can fill a role somewhere better than what I already have (or don't have at all).
  21. That's a popper, jerkbait, squarebill, maybe even a spinnerbait rod. Basically has the opposite characteristics that you want in a jig rod.
  22. Dobyn's. 2 reasons. The Fury line is a pretty good budget rod, but more importantly because the other option is ?.
  23. Since you only have the option of 80lb in 24v, looks like if your current wiring is the correct size, you shouldn't need to replace it.
  24. Also, if he doesn't mind guides that aren't quite as nice, and a different reel seat, the Fiber series uses the same blanks as the Genesis II, but will cut $50 off the price tag.
