I've read on a lot of boards that people change the hooks and/or split rings on their baits. Even KVD said he changed the hooks on his bait during the classic. If you've done it, do you change them because you want them to be bigger or smaller? Or do you put the same size hooks on but you prefer a different brand? I've never changed hooks on any lure. I feel that a significant amount of research had to go into developing that lure and the proper hardware has been matched to that bait? Please elaborate...

Everyone gave you their opinion on what they think you should get, but no one asked what you plan on using it for. I'm assuming you want an all purpose setup? Like riskkid said, unless your planning on fishing fast, look for a reel with a ratio close to 6.4:1. Then find a rod you like in medium to medium-hvy with a fast action. If it was me, Abu Garcia Revo SX and a St. Croix Avid MF. But thats what I've got my eye on at the moment. Take advantage of the BassPro reel trade in right now if you can, and wait to get a good rod. Hope this helps.

5bass...How many hooks do you go through? You using them things on trot lines? lunchbox...you get that STX at Walmart too? That is an AWESOME deal!

I did something similar this past weekend. The gear teeth probably are not lined up. Take the handle side side plate off and slowly put it back on. Before you tighten down the small screws (I think there are three) turn the handle to see if its hard to turn. If so, repeat the process. If this doesnt solve the problem. Go directly to schematics and start over.

I like Abu Garcia and Quantum. Just can't force my self to jump on the Shimano (or G loomis) bandwagon. I am very particular and don't like certain things about either one of those companies products.

I like the Yum Crawbug 3.25 and Sweet Beavers 4.2 both T-rigged. On the Sweet Beaver make sure to separate the tail.

Yesterday I too hit Walmart. I picked up some Strike King (SK) spinnerbaits for $2 and some SK 3x lizards for $1. The best deal that I got was an Abu Garcia Record (RCN50) baitcaster for $49 (At BPS its $140). I couldnt believe what the lady said, "Yep, its $49". I said, SOLD!!!!

St Croix Legend Elite for Half Price! Normally $320 and I got it for $150. Oh, and my dad just gave me his boat.

Currently using a St. Croix Legend Elite EC66MHF paired with Quantum E770PT for worm applications. My rod is the green model so its a little stiffer (more like a heavy). Just got a Daiwa T&L frod rod and paired it with Abu Revo SX-HS. Going to use it for pitching jigs and creatures and can't wait til summer to rip some lips with frogs.

Natural Do those Kanjis have a single hook? If so, what is your hookup percentage? Do you miss many fish? Sorry if I hijacked the post.
