  1. Live bait? I fished the barge canal and Cypress creek Saturday. I also drifted the bank in front of McFarland. I guess I am gonna have to buy a cast net and learn to use it. Great day! And for what it is worth, the few bass that I caught were extremly healthy. While I did not have a great trip, I had a good one. If you can get on Pickwick in cool to cold weather at all I would highly recommend it.
  2. I fished the upper end of Pickwick Lake ( below Wilson Dam) Thursday afternoon with a partner and we caught eight largemouths, a few dinky yellow bass, and a ton of drum. I fished alone Saturday from nine am until five pm. I managed five keeper largemouths, some little crappie and more drum.

Welcome from Florence, Alabama. In the northwest corner of the State Of Champions.
  4. Hmmmm, reading and fishing. That's pretty dang cool! It is nice to know there are youngsters that actually take the time to read or fish. Usually its video games.
  5. Yeah, it's kind of like staying at the bar till closing time, you think you have done good and then they turn on the lights.
  6. I have to admit it. When I catch a drum I still have fun. Plus if the drum are biting, it is a good sign that maybe the bass are too.
  7. I saw an article about fishing in that area in Alabama outdoor news, I ain't for sure about the month. Check it out it may help you. I have been through there a few times on my motorcycle and was always wishing I had a fishing rig with me. Good luck, and welcome to the HEART OF DIXIE!
  8. I like Jim Beam. Sam I would never call anyone a wuss that chooses not to drink.
  9. No go, water too muddy for me.
  10. The water below Wilson is muddy and moving fast! I plan to fish Wilson lake, " above Wilson dam" tommorrow after noon if it ain't too windy. Dang Beam and coke messes up my typin'.
  11. It is on while I am at work. I wish there were fewer shows about hunting in Africa and more about fishing in average Joe USA.
  12. Follow D 2's format. They have conference championships and then regional.
  13. I don't fish tournaments, because the entry money would be better spent on gas and bait. I would like to see the marine police at more of the tournaments in my area. The folks fishing tournaments around here are rude *** hats and need to be heavily fined.
  14. If you fish for trout, be sure to get a trout license.
  15. And just because someone is fishing in a tournament does not mean that their fishing trip is more important than anyone elses.
  16. That guy needed to be taught some manners at the ramp! That is why I don't fish any tournaments. It always seems like tournaments bring out the worst in some people. They race around one of the local harbors down here like they are the next great thang, as if fishing in a tournament makes them exempt from boating rules and laws.
  17. I plan on going Monday the 26th below Wilson dam. If the water ain't chocolate colored, and is flowing good the fish will be biting somewhere.
  18. A couple of years ago two guys in a big bass boat came roaring into the slough I was fishing. They came to a halt about 100 feet from my boat on the opposite point of a very small cut in the bank. They made very huge waves, almost washing me to the shore. They made a few cast and left just as rudely. They stopped within site of me again. So I started my outboard and ran to where they were at, made a tight circle, making as much wake and noise as I could. And then stopped, put my trolling motor down and waited for them to get indignant. They never did. That being said, most people have no etiquette or manners anyway. They hog the ramp and crowd the other fisherman, without realizing that they are being sh@@@heads.
  19. I think I have read on here about someone catching smallmouth in Pigeon Forge river, I ain't sure. Since you will be boatless try below any dams you might be near.
  20. Are you taking your boat?
  21. This is an interesting thread. I think the comparison of Disney Land was accurate. That is the way I feel when I throw my leg over the bike or back the boat down the ramp. Good read happyhappa
  22. I don't worry bout it too much. If I am on fish, I fish.
  23. I dread foosball season being over, the lake gets crowded when bama ain't on tv. Add to that- ROLL TIDE!

The money not spent on tobacco will be enjoyed in boat gas, fishing lures, and food. Food will taste much better. Lungs operate better. It has been six years since my last puff. Hang in there.
  25. You won't be but a couple of hours From Florence and some good smallmouth fishing.
