  1. Even if it's on a city owned golf course, get permission. You are still trespassing if you don't have permission. Depending on who you're dealing with, it could get expensive.
  2. I did fish from McFarland today. I threw grubs and jigs. I managed one keeper bass and a small striper of about four pounds. As usual with the way I fish, I caught several healthy drum. Disclaimer- My lack of ability to put quality fish in the boat is in no way an indication of fishing conditions on Pickwick lake.
  3. When y'all are taking about below the dam, do you mean Pickwick or Wilson dam? I am launching at McFarland in a little while and just wondering.
  4. Lake Guntersville state park. They have cabins, a hotel, or you can camp. Plenty of inexpensive motels close to the lake in different areas. I live close to it and have only been there once. I am within fifteen minutes of Pickwick or Wilson lakes, so I don't travel much to fish.
  5. Long Mike, Staggs grocery on Huntsville road in Florence has the best breakfast in the area. It is out of the way from Wilson lake but close to the ramp at McFarland park. They open at 5:30 am.
  6. I think there is a place at the intersection of state hwy.'s 101 and 184. There ain't much in that area that I know about. I will check it out and report back.
  7. Florence, Alabama. I fish the Tennessee River.
  8. The state park is really good for camping. Nice launch and everything real handy.
  9. Nice fish. The Tennessee river is great.
  10. Just go fishing! The Tennessee river is on fire.
  11. They are shallow! I had a good day out of Mcfarland yesterday fishing in the barge canal.
  12. Try a spinner bait. Caught a few last weekend on one. No big ones, but did not start throwing it until later in the day.
  13. I don't know what kind of boat you have, but a friend of mine had a boat that the trolling motor wires had splices in them. They eventually broke down.
  14. You have an intermittant open in your trolling motor circuit. Is the fuse ok?
  15. I am gonna camp somewhere in the area, preferably the state park. But, if someone wants to fish the upper end of Pickwick, let me know and I will stay in Florence Wednsday night and they can meet me at McFarland park the next morning.
  16. I live in the area and very rarely go to Wheeler. I hope you had some luck. It is a good lake, but my experience on there is limited
  17. I would like his show better if he fished in public waters.
  18. We have a Gander Mountain in Florence, Al. I think in the six months or so that it has been open I have bought one crankbait from them. The Dick's Sporting Goods in the same town has good service and fair prices. They had the same price as BPS on the depth finder that I recently bought.
  19. Scorcher, I am thinking of camping either at the park, or below the dam at the Botel. I am going to check and see if they let you use a tent, and whether or not I can hook up battery cahrgers. I will let you know.
  20. Fat Albert grub, 3 inch. Sometimes I will go smaller and fish a two inch grub on a lighter head. I don't fish tournaments, this is what I do to avoid getting skunked.
  21. Live bait?
  22. Try the north shore this time of year, lake points are good. Wilson is one of the easiest lakes to fish in my opinion, you can fish three depth ranges in one cast. I like it better at summer pool. I prefer to spend most of my time on Pickwick in cool weather. If you like swift water the tail race is always good if there is current. I am not an expert, but I would be willing to show you around.
  23. Live bait is almost always a good way to catch a big brown fish. The ones I have caught this year have been on 3 inch curl tail grubs. Find a stump row with a drop off and have fun.
  24. I love it! For two hundred bucks you can't beat it. The GPS seems to work good. I know it is obsolete, but it is way more advanced than what I was using. The map seems fairly well detailed for an entry level product. Thanks for your input Todd.
