  1. If I sent $500+ to the bottom of the lake I'd have to paddle and paddle until I reached a place that my wife would never find me again. ? A rod that would double as cranking and topwater would suit me just fine. I know were discussing expensive gear but I dang sure cant afford higher end combos for every specific job. And being in a kayak I like to keep it simple by not being loaded down with gear.
  2. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-SHIMNORODS.html?from=basres how would you guys use this rod? I flat out love my other zodias
  3. Cranking mostly. But not deep cranking. I do very little of that. Those witch doctor rods look real good.
  4. 400 bucks or less. The 400 mark would require some begging, over time and butt kissing..... but it might be possible.
  5. Thanks for the reply. I do prefer something that isnt designated to 1 specific job.
  6. Wife agreed to let me pull the trigger on a shimano metanium dc reel and a "good rod".....what rod would you be looking at and why? How would you use the setup ect....other than my ci4+ on a medium power fast action rod (spinning) this will be the only other "higher end" setup I have. Planning on some kayak fishing tournaments this year.
  7. I'd show up with a surf rod and really give them something to look at.
  8. First tournament I've ever fished in i was the back seater....the guy with the boat was a good guy that I used to work with and hadn't seen in some years. We happened to stumble across each other at a friends get together, talked about fishing and he asked if I wanted to fish as his partner in the morning. When I showed up he was beside himself that I didnt have a baitcasting setup. I caught more fish than he did that day though....
  9. Just wandering....wife and I both enjoy fishing from a kayak all over the place.
  10. What would be a good versatile rod for this reel? Planning to use for a lot of cranking applications but like to have multiple options available whenever possible
  11. Can you guys give me the rundown of the letters and what not. Like 150, 150xg, 151 and so on.....what's the difference in them
  12. Thank yall for the comments. I know it's an expensive model to start out with. I have to say that I'm a fan of good equipment and I'm a big shimano guy. I've got some ci4+ spinning reels that I'm just in love with. That being said I'm definitely not blind about it. I've also got an ugly stick that I use a good bit..
  13. Believe it or not I'm a guy that's strictly against it....I kayak fish and take a grocery bag with me every time for spent plastics and drink bottles. I used to live on a major lake here in Ga and I'd walk the shores fishing from the bank. I'd take a trash bag with me and if it wasnt real heavy or would tear my bag up any trash I saw went home with me. But that day with the baitcaster.....well let's just say that wasnt my best look at me moment. Maybe I'll change my screen name to " litter bug, the beer can sinker man with an anger problem"
  14. Looking to get my first (yea that's right) baitcaster. I had a cheaper one in the past planning to learn them and threw a 5 year old tantrum after 3,586,294 bird nest style backlashes and long story short my wife got the best laugh she's ever had, I said more cuss words in 20 seconds than I have in 31 years of being on this earth and that one piece rod and reel combo is now a 2 piece at the bottom of the middle fork broad river......so....what are you guys thoughts other than dont send this one to the unknown depths of the broad river?
  15. Its something I want to lear as well. The clint black song "state of mind" with the harmonica solo in the beginning made me want to learn. I like a lot of old blues music from some of the old harmonica guys like sonny boy William's. I play a little acoustic guitar and could listen to eric Clapton playing acoustic blues music all day long.
  16. 7 pounds on a fluke in the smokin shad color
  17. Good news!! they woke mama up today and removed her breathing tubes. She broke down when we walked in and cried and cried. She was so confused that she thought no one had been there to see her. Someone has been every day.... she's still real loopy from medication but doctors said she's coming out of ICU in the morning and will be evaluated over the weekend just to be sure. She's a very strong willed woman and they said she kept amazing them by waking up and trying to communicate when she she shouldn't have even been able to move.... I told them I wouldn't have been surprised if she hopped up and walked out. She has always been that way. Yall keep sending those prayers up please and I'll keep you posted. Thanks.
  18. Big Thanks to everyone . Mama is doing better, they still have her in a state of unconsciousness because her throat is still a little swollen, but her vitals have been good this whole time. I believe in prayer and if you guys dont mind keep sending them up. We need all we can get right now.
  19. Thank yall. Things are looking a little better for mama as of a couple of hours ago. Just a bad deal on Christmas. We are a real tight family and this was a heavy blow all at once. We really appreciate the thoughts and prayers. I tell you what to.....dont ever underestimated the strength of a woman. My wife has became a real super hero during all this. My grandmother needs a lot of hands on care and my God if it wasnt for my wife I don't know what I'd do....
  20. Thank you to everyone
  21. We're having a hard time right now as a family. My grandmother came home last night on hospice care, then about 2 this morning my mom went into the hospital with her tongue swelling up. She's now in the ICU and the doctors believe she's having an allergic reaction to her medication. We need all the prayers we can get so if you have an extra minute please send one up for my family. Merry Christmas everyone, hope Santa brought you guys all the fishing gear you wanted.
  22. Got access to a couple of ponds today. Never fished one of them before. The other I've only fished once. The one I have fished I know that there are some giants in it....8+ pounders......I also know it has a soft muddy bottom. What's yalls go to for unfamiliar locations?

Anybody using these? Looking at getting 2 in the pro blue color for 20 bucks. I love jerk baits but have never tried these.
