Wacky Rigged Senko. Weight Or No?
I like a 1/8 oz weighted wacky hook. If I’m going weightless I like a t rig.

Ned Rig plastics other than ZMan
Elaztech is so durable I don’t see anything beating it. I have really been enjoying the rage menace rigged on the mushroom style jighead. I don’t know if this is the right way, but it sure catches fish when nothing else will for me.

Sounds like you caught a really nice fish, if it was a clean enough catch for you to feel like it counts, then count it! Pics are always nice tho

Ah, looked like a spawned out female to me. Thanks for the info tho! Their behavioral habits are really cool, especially this time of year. I know you determined it was a male by how I described it guarding the fry, but are there any physical characteristics that help in identifying male vs female?

Bass and crappie fishing locations in Richmond/Central Virginia
Might have to patrol the banks there for some bedding mamas before the spawn is over!

What do you target on new water?
Fishing cover or burning grass lines and shallow points are my favorite places to start!

New to fishing, would like any suggestions as to good places for beginners to start at. Mainly do shoreline fishing.
The Potomac River is a great option for northern VA bass fishing!

Nesting Bass
Caught my first bed fish earlier today, and it was really an amazing experience. Observing the behavioral habits of a springtime bass is intensely interesting to me. I worked her for 30 minutes and watched her slowly get more and more aggressive until she violently ate my creature bait. I got her back in the water quickly and handled her with care. From an ethical standpoint I believe its all about how you handle a fish once it is caught, so my conscience is clean!

Caught my first bed fish today. Really wild experience. She was guarding her freshly hatched eggs, and I could see her following them around. Worked her for 30 minutes with a creature bait and watched her get progressively more aggressive. She broke water with my bait in her mouth. What a cool way to catch a fish! She went for 2.4#.

Was the water crystal clear like it usually is? I feel like it could be awesome for bed fishing now that I think of it...

What's your go-to lure weight for shore fishing at a lake?
1/16 up to 2oz baits, really depends on the situation. If you give some more detail on your particular situation I can tell you what I’d throw given those circumstances.

Post spawn pond bass
Absolutely! Throw a lipless crank on shallow windblown points. That’s a fun bite to get on.

Small pond, small LMB, small Spinnerbaits
Sounds like a good option to me! Maybe have them try a smaller chatterbait as well.

Should I Be Upset With P-Line Floroclear?
I have one of my reels spooled with fluoroclear and have never had an issue. I don’t hoist fish by the line though (especially fish of good size). Try avoiding that and see if it helps.

Bass and crappie fishing locations in Richmond/Central Virginia
My friends brother pulled an 8 out of there with live bait. I personally have been skunked there about 3 times.

Pond and lake fishing in western Henrico and Glen Allen areas.
Innsbrook has a few nice looking ponds. Only had the pleasure of fishing one briefly, so I can’t speak for their productivity. Also, google maps is a really good way to identify ponds! Turn on earth view to get a feel for if the banks look fishable or not, as well as parking. Get some good ones, it’s a great time of year for it!

Favorite Sunglasses
Classic Rayban Wayfarers are my favorite. Water clarity in my bodies of water make sight fishing a bit tricky tho.
