Spotted bass or largemouth??
Everything I wanted to cover on the differences of spots and largies has been covered. I just want to say spots are an absolute ball to bring into a boat. I didn't get a weight on my PB spot, but she was less than 3 and a monster during the fight. Truly a heck of a fish.
- 25 lb test?

Are lures made for people not fish?
Shades of gray, you say? I imagine some of those shades of gray do an excellent job of triggering a feeding or reactionary response. I imagine dark colors are a very noticeable shade of gray, and light colors are a very noticeable shade of gray as well. I try to keep my hard bait selection from 3-5 colors, but I think it often has to do with a combination of colors and that's something I don't think will ever be figured out.

What line do you use with which technique (crank, jigs, topwater...)
Learn the FG. It's as easy as an Alberto, just more time consuming. Tie a long leader.

I'll second this. KK SP is a better braid than PP.

BOSS jigs and skirts, opinions?
Thanks, guys! Ended up ordering 8 Gary Klein Heavy Cover and 8 Finesse Flip BOSS jigs.

Bib surprise
@TnRiver46, I'm a Dale Gribble body type and my pants fall down too. Perhaps I need to get my old lady to get me some bibs.

BOSS jigs and skirts, opinions?
I'm thinking about buying a triple handful of BOSS jigs to stock up for some bottom dragging the rest of this winter. BR members that have used their jigheads and skirts, what's your opinion of them? What models would you recommend? I need some for pitching and casting. I don't have much rock local, but I'm thinking of some footballs to for where I have rock.

Light Swimbait rod?
@Tizi, that's the exact combo I currently run! I don't think you're gonna be disappointed.

Deep Pond Bass Fishing Approaches for Winter
I'm working off of known structure and cover, either from finding it myself during routine fishing, or hearing from the pond owners. They're not big bodies of water. For larger bodies I do bust out the kayak and electronics.

Deep Pond Bass Fishing Approaches for Winter
My go to last winter was jigs and shakey heads with finesse worms. I don't have any experience deep cranking during the winter, so I'm not gonna offer any misinformation. Both of my aforementioned presentations caught fish in the deepest parts of the ponds I fish.

Light Swimbait rod?
I've got a 100% hook and land ratio on the Daiwa DXSB 8' HF. It has done well for my ROF5 was 12 Huddleston 68s. It'll throw down to 3/4oz well, but the action on that rod is far too much for crankbaits unless they're some 1 1/2oz to 2oz monsters sporting some size 2 and up trebles. I think you'd be better served getting a rod for both techniques, which is why I suggested my swimbait rod. It's a budget friendly offering and a quality piece of gear.

Help me decide my first Kayak
Since it's your first fishing kayak, I'm going to go out on a limb and say you do care about tracking and speed in addition to stability. I think the Jackson Big Rig is the most stable boat out of that list, but I would personally recommend the Old Town Predator 13 or the Feelfree Lure 11.5.

New Kayak, Hobie compass or outback
I'm so used to my old 2010 Outback that I don't use the reverse in my PA14 much. Probably five times today in 8 hours of fishing. You'll be quite pleased with a standard drive in a Compass, I imagine. You can probably find a 180 on Ebay soon as people sell their old ones to upgrade to the kick up fins.

Favorite shakey head?
I do a lot of reading and research, price checking, and stretch every dollar I can for a level of quality I need my fishing equipment to perform at. With that said, I prefer the Big Bite Baits Gamakatsu Fin Twist. I get a good hook, all the sizes I need, and a stout screw lock. 3.99 for four. ?

Are Megabass jerkbaits really king or is it a confidence thing?
@Logan S, that's a nice spot. Hopefully I'll find some like that in the morning. The Vision 110 is the king of jerkbaits and I am the king of detailing threads to talk about different baits and compliment fish.

Line weight
10# is hard to see. I use 12# for lighter finesse offerings to help with casting distance, but those are primarily baits I have contact with and don't need to see as much as weightless, slack line offerings. Those get thrown on 15#. High vis braid for both, 15' of leader. The long leader is so I only tie the occasional FG knot on the kayak. 6-12# leaders. 14#-17# leader while inshore fishing.

Pre-Rigging Dropshots
Typically after I throw them back. I've caught 25+" red drum on 14# Berkley Vanish.

Your questions answered!
That GIF gets me every time, Roadie.

Pre-Rigging Dropshots
Yeah, I think I really need to invest in better line when I'm dropping down to 6#. I've been using Vanish with results, but never as a main line. I'll check those Bullet Weights drop shot sinkers out, I've been using Water Gremlin Dipsey sinkers but they don't go up that heavy and the Bullet Weights are actually cheaper! Thanks for the heads up.

I’m back after 20 years
I think you'll enjoy the big rig. Such a stable boat. Let us know how you do on the KBF trail! I still may fish the SE trail this year, just haven't made my mind up.

I’m back after 20 years
Welcome back! I bet the fish missed you. I like your setup, is that a Bonafide?
