In his first year as an assistant at Tennessee I came across a recording online of a speech that he gave to the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce that I listened to for some reason. That's when I decided I did not like him. This story lines up well with the impression I got of him from that speech. One thing he said was "We're not saints and we don't expect our players to be saints." I don't think you can expect players to be saints but as a coach you should be encouraging them to be good men and good members of society. You do this by setting an example and by setting expectations for behavior. That's what I like to tell myself is happening in college sports. It's probably not very realistic. Every year it gets harder for me to be a college football fan but I haven't given up yet.

I went through something similar when I first started bass fishing. I would try to add a new technique or two every month from the latest issue of Bassmaster magazine. What I eventually learned was that every technique takes time on the water to figure out and even more time on the water to master. You're better off focusing on mastering of a few techniques than being familiar with a bunch of them. If you're young, working, and have a family, you probably don't have time to master more than two or three techniques. That's a very hard thing to admit to yourself.

I was surprised by the move. I don't follow LSU closely so I have no idea what the problem was. He has been recruiting very well. That's the most important thing for a head coach in my opinion. The rest can be addressed by changing assistant coaches. I did not like him when he was at UT but he seemed to be a good fit for LSU.

The world is full of experts on various subjects that know more than we do but are often wrong. Figuring out what to believe and what not to believe in this life is hard but essential. I wish all of the world's experts wore jerseys like pro fishermen. It's very convenient when they recommend a product to be able to look at their jersey and say "Yeah, that's made by one of their sponsors, I can ignore that advice."

I agree @papajoe222. I've read a lot of good books on fishing. Most of them at some point say something that is scientifically/factually wrong. For example, Rolland Martin's book is excellent but repeats the myth that bass must avoid sunlight because they don't have eyelids. I think pros are pros mostly because they are very good with a rod and reel in their hands. They can be just as susceptible to misinformation and misinterpretation of information as the rest of us. It's also important to remember that most of them are being paid to promote the idea that the solution to catching more fish can be found at your local tackle store.

I know nothing about that pipe so I’m gonna do a little research on the Internet. I’ll be right back…. The orange pipe used as conduit for fiber optic lines is made of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) which doesn’t break down easily in water. That makes sense because it is being buried in the ground to protect expensive fiber cable. Sounds like a great product to build a fish attractor out of like the countless plastic fish attractors you can buy. Most bodies of water need more cover for fish. The regulations vary from state to state and even lake to lake. The US Army Corp of Engineers lake near me requires a permit that is issued by the Corps on a case by case basis. Follow the rules and you can’t go wrong.

I don't know if Randy is complaining. I've heard his name more in the last year than in the previous 15 years. Why? because of his controversial youtube channel. I don't know how much money he's making from it but he has about 50K followers and growing. The dude has found a better way sell beef jerky.

Is a guy that can drag a jig across a log and tell you what species of tree it's from a great fisherman in 2021 if he can't figure out how to turn on a fish finder?

You could save people a lot of trouble by just posting the coordinates of your money spot. People are gonna have to drive up and down the Tennessee river looking at all the barge ties trying to match the rust spots on your photo.

Your current wiring is probably not ideal and might be too small. Find out what gauge wire you currently have and compare that to what is recommended in the manual of your new TM. I would remove the plug and wire directly to the trolling motor. Also, when wiring batteries in series to get 24 volts it’s best if your batteries are the same model and age.

I fish a worm year round but do throw a jig much more in the Winter. It's not because the worm is less effective. It's because I love catching big fish on a jig in the Winter.

I'll add one more thing. An absurd amount of money is spent by anglers chasing the dream of becoming a Professional angler. It's in the best interest of the industry to keep that dream alive even though it's a pipe dream for almost everyone who chases it.

This is the modern take on something that has always been true in professional fishing. Companies sponsor people who help them sell product and could care less if those people can catch fish or not. Before social media that meant being likable and being able to convince your fans to buy your sponsors products. In the modern world, having a social media following has played an increasing role in this. There have been plenty of failed pros over the years that could catch the fish but couldn't catch the sponsors.

Good information. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about this topic. In the old days, people could figure out a lot just by reading your mail after your gone. When a bank sends you a bank statement, your relatives know you have an account there and can act on it. In today’s paper free online world there’s no way for them to know unless they have a way to read your email. My wife knows what to do if I check out unexpectedly. If we both go at the same time in an accident, it would be very bad. I need to fix that.

I would fill one of the 3600 with some plastic worms and the weights & hooks needed for a T-rig. I would add some jigs in various weights and a few spinnerbaits. This would be the box I use to catch fish. In the other 3600, I would put the latest fad lures or whatever I've bought in the last few days. The box would not be used on the water but would keep the bait monkey off my back.

Your profile says you're in South Carolina. Is the lake you're referring to in SC? If so I don't think you're seeing turnover. I'm no expert on SC climate but I would guess the surface temperature on most lakes there is still in the 60s.

I have dreams of creating an aquaponics green house in my retirement. You can google it for all the detail. Briefly, it involves a tank full of fish, plants and worms in gravel, and pumps to circulate the water between the fish tank and the gravel bed with the plants. You feed the fish, they produce waste, the plants feed on the waste and filter the water, and the worms clean up any leftover plant materials. All this produces vegetable to eat, worms to fish with, and fish to eat or use for bait.

Originally consumer GPS units had limited accuracy of about 100 meters due to what was called Selective Availability (SA). I had an early Lowrance GPS on my boat in the 1990s and even with the limited accuracy it was still very useful. In 2000, the government turned off SA and my unit suddenly had an accuracy of 10 meters. Today with a good GPS you can achieve 1 meter accuracy 95% of the time on the water where you typically have an open view of the sky. If you're fishing in a steep canyon, expect the accuracy to be worse. Are you marking the waypoint with your trolling motor and later use spot lock to hold you one that spot? If so keep in mind that spot lock is not going to try to hold you exactly on the spot at all times. I've found that mine seems to stay within about a 5ft circle. It would use a lot of battery if it was constantly trying to keep you within inches of what it sees as the exact location of the waypoint which is not accurate to within inches anyway. Bottom line. If you're casting to a small brush pile, expect to fan cast.

I've used the TVA app. I don't think it's very popular in California.
