Another interesting story that has never gotten much attention. There is a picture you can see at the bottom of the article linked below that shows George Perry (The largemouth bass world record holder) with a Drum that is reported to weight 55 pounds. No but everyone I've talked to that has tried them said they're good. Expect @TnRiver46 to post some pictures of fried Drum soon. My grandfather always told me that when he was a kid drum was a very popular eating fish.

I had the strangest dream last night and I’m hoping there might be a psychologist on here that can tell me what it means. I dreamed we bought a new house and the previous owners left a boat. I was surprised they left it because it was practically new but it was not a fishing boat so I didn’t want it. My wife and I were looking at it. I opened one of the storage compartments and a monkey jumped out. My wife screamed. I told her it was okay and tried to calm her. Still startled she ask “What is that?”. I explained “It’s a bait monkey”. A bait monkey on a ski boat? Dreams can be so crazy. Any help interpreting this dream would be appreciated.

No. I’ve only had mine since spring so I’m not an expert. Blackstone recommends the final layer of oil and every video I’ve watched online does also. It prevents rust and oxidation. I skipped it one time because I knew I would be using in again in a couple of days. There was a little white oxidation on the surface the next time I used it so I’ve always done it since. One thing I do about half the time is turn all the burners on high after I’ve cleaned it and let the heat burn off anything that’s left on the surface. I let it burn until it stops smoking. This get the surface really clean. When it cools down, I wipe the surface and then add the layer of oil. This takes time and uses a lot of gas but I like the results. I must add that I’ve watched a lot of videos on how to clean a griddle and none of them do this. I hope I’m not shorting the life of burners or something.

After I clean mine and it’s cooled down but still a little warm I put a very thin layer of oil on it with a paper towel. I make sure to cover the whole surface but try to get it as thin as possible. I never burn off the final layer of oil. I would say I spread about a tablespoon oil over the 36 inch surface. When I cook the next time, I wipe the surface good before I start. There will be a little oil on the paper towel when I’m done but not much.

Many years ago they had to drain a 167 acre lake in the Natchez Trace state park because is was so full of small crappie that none of the fish in the lake would grow larger than about 8 inches. Before they finally drained it, it was illegal to release any crappie that you caught in the lake. Not many people are interested in taking home 100 three inch crappie.

I think this is true with any species. Take for example, me. I choose a restaurant that has the best food, not the best air quality. Now if I'm went to a restaurant and couldn't breath, I would leave.

Hitting the water at 3:00AM to give myself time to get dialed in and in position for the prime 7:00AM sunrise is not very appealing. Hitting the water at 3:00PM to give myself time to get dialed in and in position for the prime 7:00PM sunset works much better for me.

Very good thread. I agree that every strike is a reaction strike. A crankbait that is running true is more likely to get a reaction than one that is not running true. A crankbait that bounces off an object may be more likely to get a reaction than one that does not. It's our job to figure out how to get a reaction. I believe that some strikes result from reactions that are triggered by things other than hunger and I'm not talking about bedding fish. As long as fish refuse to answer our questions about why they do what they do it's nearly impossible to prove any of this.

I agree. Folks ask “What’s your favorite _____?” and I’m thinking I have a different favorite on every lake I fish in middle Tennessee and can’t imagine what my favorite would be on the other side of the country.

One thing I've learned from this forum is that people enjoy the sport of bass fishing in different ways. There are many here that clearly enjoy admiring, collecting, and using high end rods and reels. You are certainly one that comes to mind and you contribute a lot to this forum. I can respect that and think people should enjoy this sport any way they want using whatever equipment they enjoy using. I would never assume that everyone that buys a high end rod does so for the same reasons. While I suspect that some may do it to impress others, I certainly do not think they all do. Many buy them because they admire the quality and craftsmanship. I can understand that. I think most people buy them because they think they will help them catch more fish. That's where I strongly disagree and I think that's the line that divides the two sides that everyone takes on these threads. I've looked at the high end Megabass rods. There are many legitimate reasons for buying one. They are works of art and I can see why people like them and would want to own them. It's just not art that I'm personally interested in collecting. I can afford them and might consider buying one if I thought I could catch one more bass a year by using it. No one has made a convincing argument to me that these rods can improve my fishing in any way. The other valid reasons for buying them does not apply to me personally. Also, if someone want to buy one to impress others, that's a perfectly valid reason as far as I'm concerned.

I routinely switch between a $420 St Croix Legend XTreme rod and a Lew's rod that I paid $20 for in the 1980s. Both have the same reel attached. When I'm in my garage admiring the qualities of the rods I can tell a difference between the two. When I'm fishing, I'm thinking about what my lure is doing not what my rod is doing and really can't say that I prefer one over the other. I'm not a better angler with the more expensive rod. That's just my opinion. Maybe when I have more experience I'll feel differently. I've only been fishing about 55 years.

I did some searching on the web and it was an episode of Nova on PBS called “Bird Brain”. It was very interesting.

When I was about 2 years old, I enjoyed unscrewing the bulbs on our Christmas tree lights. My mom told not to play with the lights because I might get shocked. I thought that sounded cool so when she was out of the room, I unscrewed one of the bulbs and stuck my finger in the socket. She was right about getting shocked and I've never had any interest in playing with electricity since then.

I watched a show a few years ago where they were basically giving crows IQ test. It was scary. They're smarter than most people so I don't mess with them.

I would look for an app for your phone. It's true that google maps will not work without a cell connection but there are other apps that will let you download maps in advance. I have an app on my iPad called "Topo Maps" that will let me download USGS topo maps and will show my position on these maps. I'm sure there are other apps work this way also.

We all benefit from @Mobasser's retirement because we get to read the post he makes while he drinks his morning coffee.

I'm trying to decide when to retire. I don't have a pension plan, just retirement savings. I'm sure I have enough saved but it takes a leap of faith to actually quit working. I'm a software developer so once I quit I'll be an obsolete dinosaur in about 6 months.
