Old lures
Bring on the lure porn. Like others have said already depending on the condition of the hardware it could be fished, but depending on the value it might not be wise.

Have you got a lure you refuse to give up on?
Not yet....But thanks to the bait monkey I've got plenty that I haven't even tried yet.

I was leaning towards a Castaic Trout, but was unsure as I couldn't find any markings on that one when looking at it. He does have some other Castaic swimbaits that are clearly marked. Here's another pretty one to look at. It's from the 30's at the latest? He doesn't want me to name who it once belonged to in a public forum, but it was someone who died a long time ago and was a pioneer in the industry. I was most likely only the 2nd person who set eye's on it from the time it was packaged at the factory.

Fish Finders- What am I missing
Just stop, pivot boat hard left/right with trolling motor and make a couple casts if the spots looks promising. I'm usually just fan casting away in the direction I'm heading anyways. Unless I'm taking a arm break.

I guess this is what they mean when they say throw big baits for big fish! I don't remember seeing any markings on this one. Looks kind of big for bass. Maybe used for Pike or giant Stripers?

Nice! How big is that one. My tomorrows photo looks similar to it.

Nice I'll take a look when home. Glad too see I'm not alone posing lures for photo ops.

Dedicated Swimbait Rod
Have you had a chance to test yours out yet? I haven't gotten back on the water yet so mines still in the shipping tube for now.

Another day another swimbait. Here's another one from my bros collection. I'm not sure what make or brand or even what era it's from. Unmarked and has the signs that it was heavily fished at some point in time. What I found interesting was it actually has fins. It's really weird feeling in hand. Almost feels like it would stick to the wall if you threw it. I was looking at the following image and thought about the potential for old lures or just modern lures as desktop wallpaper....Hmm I think next time I visit him I'll have to find something better as a backdrop and keep the wallpaper potential in mind. Never really gave lure posing a thought.

Thanks. Looks like a match too me. Color scheme and shape had me puzzled. No marking make it hard to ID without randomly stumbling across one. I've been going thru the photos I took of some of his stuff and trying to figure it out. He's got a lot of cool looking lures for sure.

"Plopping" Topwaters
Same here....And I think the 110 was actually bigger than the bass I caught. The little guy shook loose before I could get a photo of him. I haven't really fished them much yet. Was more or less some quick shore fishing to see what they looked like in action.

Shaped like a catfish, painted like a trout....This one another one of my bros and has no markings, but is clearly suffering from a identity crisis.

Storing hooks- solution needed
Self adhesive rubberized magnets would be another option. Magnetic business cards that the real estate and others leave on your door could be cut and glued down if you have any of them.

The latest sale thread
I'm wondering also. I've got a $25.48 eBay bucks certificate waiting for the next go around. I figure the next promo will drop the day after I cave in and spend it towards something I want....Guess I got till 02/02 to spend it. Luckily I don't really have anything on my radar yet anyways.

The End of Senko Slinging
I've had many fellow anglers say " You caught that on a lipless " maybe give them a shot and see. Just try to find a offering similar to the colors of the baitfish in the waters you fish. They cast like bullets and are pretty cheap at your local Walmart if they stock them. Even the Cordell spots catch bass and they're 1/2 the price of the tried and true Rat-l-traps. I haven't really gotten into the slow boring finesse style fishing much lately. I for the most part won't revert to it unless I feel the need to beat the skunk. Sure you can catch fish but dang is it boring! I'd rather throw a lipless for hours on end and enjoy the occasional out of nowhere strike of the hungry aggressive fish. This year I'm targeting a new PB and will be throwing larger baits, but the lipless will always be tied onto at least one of my combos at all times.

Some old tackle porn
Crazy isn't it. Not sure how long the 5 trebles lasted for the reasons you stated. Would be a nightmare for sure to unhook or even handle a feisty bass. Here's another strange one which has no markings on it at all. From the top it's shaped like a catfish but the paint scheme looks like a trout.

Another one from my brothers lure collection.

Some old tackle porn
There my brothers from his personal collection. He's saving them for his retirement fund. He doesn't even bass fish anymore. He lives down by the ocean so he goes out there and goes up to Bishop to trout fish once in a while. Did they use tack eyes before glass eyes? You think maybe it was home made? Guess I could do another round of lures. I think these are the last of the boxed ones I photo'd that I can post for now. I do have one last photo of a couple of really special ones I'm saving for later. Dropped photos just like the 1st post? Showing links on my end so may need to click on them to see? Looks like the proverbial bait monkey has been around for a long time. He's got hundreds of lures that are out of boxes that look to have been never fished. I think he's got enough lures to open his own tackle shop. He's paranoid his family will sell them off for pennies on the dollar if he kicks the bucket so he started doing a inventory of what he's got. Some of them have price tags on them while others just have a piece of paper in the old tackle box's with the value as a whole.

- Some old tackle porn
I had a chance to make the trek down to my brothers today to check out his fishing tackle collection. I didn't have a whole lot of time so we didn't get a chance to go thru all of it. He had another 25 tackle boxes and a couple more storage crates of stuff still. Here's a few of the interesting looking ones I photo'd. Not sure about what time frame they're from but they look older. This one has a cool look to it. Would be interesting to see it in action. This ones strange. Has a total of 5 treble hooks! Cool looking old rat lure. I think the old box's are cool looking. I guess that's enough for now. Got some more photos if you guys are into it.- Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
My brother helped me beat the bait monkey today. He does the estate sales, yard sales, garage sales, liquidation sales, auctions and then sells the better stuff on eBay to make a living. More or less his lower end stuff that he'll never use. Some used, some new. He was going to just give it too me for free but in the end $10 for beer.- Very Frustrating
....Or he just can't log back in.- Spinner Bait Popularity
Dang nammit! Just the word spinnerbait brings back that haunting memory of the largest bass I've ever hooked and sadly lost. Was way back around 1990 and she was a big girl. DD and then some. Oh the horror! I close my eyes and I can see my cast land next to a large flooded bush. As the chartreuse and white double willow leaf slowly flutters into the depths she comes charging out from under the bush and inhales it. She goes right and weaves between flooded timber as I'm doing a full speed hard left. I guess I should have mentioned I had just gotten a Minn Kota auto pilot trolling motor and had given up on the spot so I set it for a really hard left turn at full speed as I made one last cast. It all happened so fast and by the time I regained control of the boat she'd weaved thru some tall flooded timber. I did manage to turn her and finagle her thru the timber, but sadly my spinnerbait got wedged on the very last piece. Fishing solo I'm in the front of the boat and my nets in the very back. I watched helplessly for what seamed like an eternity as she slowly wiggled herself free. I got 2 really good looks at the big girl a no questions asked DD and then some....Ugh! I do have a few spinnerbaits I bought last year but haven't used them much yet. I'll give them a shot again this year and see if I have any luck.- depth finder power for the Yak
When I bought my Elite 5Ti unit and got over the shell shock of the size of the total scan transducer I went with the following one as it was made specifically for the transducer. https://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-316-18-TRA4U-NB It seems to work pretty good and does have some flex if I bump into something. It's mounted to the left side about a foot in front of my kayak seat. When I'm off the water it swings up and sits on top of the seat for protection. - Some old tackle porn
