  1. They almost always are....
  2. By having someone hold it? No. But because there is zero stretch with braid, it has to be the same. The only way it could be different is when there is slack in the line. With worms or jigs, it’s a big difference compared to moving baits because moving baits will have no slack.
  3. Thanks. Yes, diet is huge. I’ve kept myself from things like high blood pressure, cholesterol & sugar. But my body loves to hold fat. Even in my 20’s working 12 hours a day, hard labor, I was the only one with a belly. If I cut the carbs down, it doesn’t cause weight loss, but I can see a difference of one hole on my belt smaller in under a week. The fat shrinks. But I also love carbs, like bread and pretzels. So it’s not easy. The cardio does work, for me. So I do cardio. If I do about 1.25 miles 3x a week before the weights, it makes a huge difference. But right now my main goal is not overdoing it, not lifting too heavy and not getting injured ?
  4. I think the fish in some places slam the bait and in other places (where they eat smaller things) they gently suck it in or nip it before sucking it in. These little nipping bass drive me crazy. The fish around here nip like a little sunny, making hookups impossibly difficult without treble hook lures. Funny you say that, though. I always consider they way I fish faster than ‘slow’
  5. According to my watch I did 1,000 calories in an hour tonight. After hurting my arm, I’m back at it. Need to lose all of this fat. Ran almost a mile to warm up. But everything is still a bit off. I missed December 2017 & January & February 2018 to plantar fasciitis after getting my weight down for vacation. From running, running, running. Again missed January & February 2019 after a close call bicep attenuation just above my elbow. Yes, I continued lifting for two months after getting hurt. The ortho said he doesn’t understand why anytime the patient lifts weights they take 2-3 months to come in. I said because they know the doctors going to say stop lifting weights!!! The hard part is keeping in mind that 1,000 calories in an hour is enough. Do not do anything stupid that is going to lead to another 2 or 3 months out of the gym. You are too old for that now.
  6. Numbness and tingling usually means impingement or nerve canal injury. Possibly arthritis or bone edema. Not usually symptoms of a muscle tear. Best bet is an MRI. I just had one on my left elbow, thought I tore my bicep at the base. Dodged yet another bullet there ? and am mostly recovered now. Will not need any surgery ? The worst part was being too big to fit into a standard MRI. I could’ve torn my right rotator cuff by having to keep my right arm up like I was raising my hand to fit inside the tube. Least fun 40 minutes of my life. Get an MRI or ultrasound, everything else is guesswork. For workers comp, I don’t know Florida regulations, but usually something that you think was nothing that starts to get worse is compensable. Hernias could be different and may need to be reported immediately. But it depends on the state.
  7. Take a look at the Lews combos at dicks. The black rods with green grips with black reel with green grips. The rods are a bit heavy and rubbery. But the reels are tiny and unbelievably light. I was surprised by these. I wanted to take the reel off to weigh it.
  8. Nice. I saw the BC Lews Rods at dicks with the Green grips yesterday and they were nice—especially the reel.
  9. It does. Even at 70 yards. The problem is if the bait wasn’t inhaled or was inhaled with a tapered bullet weight and the fish is far and shallow, the hookset rips the bait out of the fish’s mouth or doesn’t pop the hook out of the plastic. IMO, that one second of flex in a mod rod let’s the hook angle enough to grab something.
  10. I don’t know. I’m considering these, too. And the KLX umbrella rig rod. But would most likely prefer to get it custom made, but the custom option disappeared from the website.
  11. Find a tear down video on YouTube. The main thing is to keep all Belleville washers oriented properly and don’t lose any springs. They’re all almost exactly the same.
  12. Yeah, well that’s how it always was. I got this guy sitting here and it cost about $20 twenty years ago. At 3 grams, I’ve never been able to cast it. Except a few test casts with a light spinner. But this year I’m determined. They didn’t even have the decency to put the brand on it. But I think it is a rapala. Lures are a waste of money. And if the price is good, it’ll need better hooks. I hate spending $200 on lures so I’ll get or two every outing or two. But plastics, hooks and weights are ridiculous expensive if you lose 10-20 per outing, too.
  13. Unless you know your bad with small parts and tiny screws—just do it. It’s not that hard. Unless you lose a piece.
  14. Sorry to generalize, the thing that gets me is when people just assume something more expensive is automatically better and then cause themselves to be disappointed about everything just because of the price. Back to the topic, I’d like to hear about spiealite rods casting ability.
  15. Now that I got my tinfoil hat on, I believe they are using a custom rod to their specs in the color and style of the sponsor rod. My tinfoil hat tells me this because they often have rods with butt sections much longer than what the rod they are using has in retail stores.
  16. I would say for most applications a $150-200 rod is all you’ll ever need. I avoid the more expensive rods because I have almost no use for super stiff, fast tipped rods. If there were parabolic, thin, light expensive rods, I might be more interested.
  17. I know what you mean. And i know that especially if you hold the rod below the reel, the weight doesn’t do anything for balance. But if you hold it higher up it does. If you have a Foregrip it can really make a huge difference. I, personally, never hold the rod below the reel or at the base of the reel. I always hold the reel or if I have a bigger sized fish, I’ll hold the fore grip above the reel. The components sound great. I can’t say anything about the spirals except I heard from the internet it’s great for big fish in very deep water. I only catch small fish in shallow water.
  18. Spiral rods are not used by enough people to get responses. I’m sure they work, but I don’t see how they could possibly improve casting. But I’ve been wrong many times in the past.
  19. When I caught the biggest bass I ever caught on a guided fishing excursion in Disney world in the first week of September 2001, I did not tip the guide But I paid for 2 people with only one fishing. And I think at the time, it was gratuity included because it was when they first started these. This was, as far as I know, the biggest bass ever to come out of the water at Disney world. It was also the only fish I caught that day in the last 10 minutes before the trip was over. Also, we were experiencing technical difficulties, because as we were approaching the dock, it came to my attention, that the nonfishing passenger, who was responsible for putting film in the camera (and who insisted I was covered in the film department) forgot to put film in the camera.
  20. I hate jump into this. I just checked how tip heavy a rod is, the center of gravity was about 4” above the reel. After I put the reel on the center of gravity moved down about 3.5-3.75” to just at the top of the reel. You can put a fulcrum anywhere. It does not have to be at the center of gravity. Dont ask. Yes, I have rods and reels handy.
  21. I would not choose any of these. But the synchronized levelwind is drastically underrated. It works better than magnets in spool control with hard casting. It also causes less start up inertia on the spool when a big fish runs on drag.
  22. On an extremely long cast with a half a worm to the other side of the pond, worked back parallel to the bank where it would be impossible for people to walk.
  23. I have always done better with orange than with green, black and blue. It’s not that easy to get orange worms, but craws are usually available. .......yes there is a basket of fresh plastics in one of the kitchen cabinets.......
  24. Ooohhh, I thought you meant the shims under the c-clip on the spool!!! That makes sense, I’ll try it.
