  1. but but but but but how do you catch fish with $80 rods?
  2. 65# braid and a cheap heavy or extra heavy. Ugly sticks are cheap and pretty much indestructible.
  3. I'd grab one of those DX702sf from dobyns refurb section for 250. I have an alpha angler wrench inbound tomorrow. I wanted to see what else is available aside from dobyns. They also have a dropshot rod but the owner recommendes the wrench though. I'll probably get the DS at some point along with the slasher for jerkbaits. They are rather inexpensive for what you get because they don't spend a lot on marketing.
  4. I have a dobyns champ 765cb and it's great for medium size CBs and traps. It's know as the do it all crankin rod. I just ordered a Quantum Tour kvd from dicks for 77 for shallows. I went this direction because Ajay uses several of them and CBs don't require extreme sensitivity. I can't wait to try it out.
  5. There is no such thing as fog free glasses. When you sweat the humidity fogs them up. There is a solution for skiers and they have fans built in on both sides. Glasses that allow the most air flow will obviously fog less. Lots of suckers buy fogfree spray snakeoil and it doesn't do anything. The great reviews from people are indeed true. They believe their product works but they are just sitting around and not sweating.
  6. Most likely can afford... But do you want to afford it. Most guys here are married to women. A kayak is one and done. A bass boat is a constant reason to complain. Some don't like to give them another excuse. To others its worth it. Of course you can always tell yourself that's not my wife. If that's you give it a few years... There are many reasons to own a kayak and I bet at least 75% of kayakers also have a boat. 20% of them are saving for a boat. The smart 5% just don't want to hear it. To allude to kayak promoters being poor is just plain silly.
  7. Thanks it worked
  8. Bro if you are a beginner stop reading and worrying and go get whatever you have on your rod wet. Throw a 4/0 ewg hook and a senko and catch a fatty. When you come to a place like this first you spend way touch time reading and way too much money. 90% of us didn't even know how to read when we started fishing and we all caught lots of fish. When you start breaking stuff or have bern married 10 years and cant fish as much as you should be able to come back.you will thank me later. The only thing a beginner should be googling ks "how to tie a fishing knot" not "whats the best fishing knot". This should be a sticky...
  9. Would you.kind posting the link? I dont have the email.
  10. So I was.going to try the KK speed demon reel with its 30% off as I need a beater for a Fury rod that doesn't get to play anymore. Regular price is 85 on KK sight. Its $70 on Amazon. Im wondering what kind of maths these guys are calculating to come up with 15 being 30% of 85. My 'merican math that I done learned in software engineering school shows that 30% of 85 is $25.50 bringing the total to bout 60 bux. While the reel is most likely well worth $70 and maybe twice that, I am the type of guy that likes his numbers adding up. I wouldn't make too good of an engineer if I would let that slide. I think ill wait until the abacus is recalibrated. Man I missed out on the Dicks KVD crankin rod. A-Jay loves them so you know they are the bees knees. $99 with free shipping is still a great deal but I only have the budget for steals right now and $79 is just that!
  11. That's really cool of you. Make sure you figure out the rest of his treasures so you don't go through this again.
  12. I haven't seen many reviews on any of the speed demon rods but my interest is indeed piqued. I would love to try a few that are not bottom contact rods. Id imagine they fish every bit as good as a $200 rod. Most of the reviews you find are from sponsors so of course they are going to say its the greatest thing since sliced bread. A 4oz rated frog rod probably wont have a fast enough tip to easily walk the dog bit who knows... Let us know when you get one. I think its worth the gamble.
  13. While no rod will be perfect for shallow to deep, my Dobyns champion 765cb is a happy medium. It can throw shallows and it can throw deeps but it is one hell of a lipless rod. Its graphite so its super sensitive with a moderate tip that is perfect for all treble hooks. You can feel what your baits are doing underwater and bites stand out vs banging off structure. My whopper ploppers are comfortable to throw on this rod as well. There's a few reviews online which pretty much equate to this being Dobyns do it all CB rod which is the main reason why I got it. If you throw more shallows than deeps the 704cb might be for you. They also come in a glass composite version if glass is your thing. I prefer sensitivity.
  14. Yea man... I spent $300 for a reel it should at least have come with some line on it. The $10 Zebco I got for my kid had line on it. I too am sick of putting line on my reels. We should all boycott the fishing industry so we can be seen for a change. Naked spools are so 2018! ?
  15. He's probably Canadian and meant 3/4 of a meter. So yes that 2 foot swimbait will work great on real big bass.
  16. Id rather have 2 endgame rods than 5 decent rods that I would always want to upgrade. All you need is a finesse spinning outfit and a doitall baitcasting in medium heavy. Fish it for a season and if you are hooked get a crank rod and a pitchin stick.
  17. List your budget and items you want and we can go from there such as: 2 reels 1 spinning 1 casting $400usd 1x finesse spinning rod $250usd 1x do it all casting $150usd Don't list canadian currency because we yanks dont like to do math.
  18. I catch 5# all the time on my tatula elite finesse. It has ags guides and is super sensitive for the price. If the biggest you will be hauling in is a 4# you may as well feel like its got a chance and use a finesse rod. Catching dinks all day on a flippin stick will get old quick.
  19. That broomstick of yours isn't gonna make a good skipping rod. I have the fury 734 and its a broomstick so I assume yours is more so. Why put a 250$ reel on a $80 rod? You got that backwards bro. You want a 250$ rod with a $80 reel
  20. Fishing license, rod, reel, line, and tackle for the appropriate species. A MH will catch bluegill to 50" pike. Spinning reels are easy but baitcaisters are more accurate. Live bait is for the weak. Try to imitate live bait with lures. Learn the art of the Senko and then go from there. Kayaks are great for rivers and allow for more opportunities. Wading also gets you off the bank that everyone else fishes. Good luck my friend.
  21. Kayaking is great excercise. A bass boat is a never ending payment. It will break on you quite often and its not cheap to feed and launch it. A kayak can go anywhere a bass boat can go and then some at the expense of 5mph. Get a yak first off craigslist fully rigged and save up for a good bass boat.
  22. Frogging is a great technique for the budget minded fisherman. Its a visual bite so there is not much advantage to having a $600 rod compared to an Ugly Stick Elite for $40. If its thick get a Heavy. If its not get a MH. You want a fast tip to walk the dog. Any reel you buy will last you a season. Who cares if it makes noise. Just try not to drop it or get it wet and you should be ok. The cheap BC are much harder to tune and you may not get the casting distance that a $150 reel offers, but this is fishing... not a casting competition.
  23. Dobyns Furys are broomsticks imo. I have the 795sb and 734C. I don't use them nor recommend them for people looking for a tip. They do balance fine though and the craftsmanship is on point. I do however love my 4 Champions and suggest upgrading to this line for a proper tip. I learned to walk the dog in 5 minutes with my Champ 736. I will own more Dobyns rods in my future... just not the Furys. I too am a bank fisherman and the size is fine. Id go 736 over 735 for thick vegetation for sure. Sportsman Outfitters has 20% off now. Just picked up a Champion 765cb for $208. Ordered it Sunday night and received it today. Free 2day shipping dropshipped from Dobyns. use the code freedom
  24. A lighter when I forget to bring my diags.
  25. I wear these $9 long sleeves as an undershirt everyday to work as an electrician. They last a year or so: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BBRJ7H8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I also wear these under my pants: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BX922QS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They work in the winter to keep you warm and the summer to wick the sweat and help with UV. Without them I sweat through shirts by the time I walk into the job site to where I am working. I suppose you can pay $50 for Under Armour or $60 for Huk. I don't see the point being an undershirt though... Only you will know that you are a baller.
