Cold and Dirty...
Lets see...., I am sitting here and it's -10, supposed to go down to -20 with wind chills to -40 to -50 and blizzard conditions. My advise...., go fishing, get out as early as possible, stay as late as you can. Remember everything you did (all of it) then come back and tell me everything you did. When you finished.., tell me again. :'(

Ice fishing
I hope you guys don't think I'm jackin' this thread, but I see there are some perch fishermen here..,so here is a question. I fish a 50 acre gin clear lake that runs about 70 feet deep. There are some real big perch there, along with a ton of small gills, a few walleyes, and bass. The west side of the lake has a small shallow flat with weeds. The east side has another small flat mostly sand. The rest has a fairly fast drop with a weed line down to about 16 feet. So I want the perch. What do you think?

Ice fishing
I live in North East Wisconsin about 45 miles south of the U.P. of Mich. border. Me and the wife go out ice fishing here and there. Haven't been out yet this year. There has been plenty of ice, and guys were driving around with their trucks. The last couple of days stunk with the warm weather and rain. It's 36 at 4:30pm and raining. Some say Global Warming? I always called it a January thaw?? It is going to cool off in a day or so, then I can try out my new Big Buddie heater that I got for Christmas. Tell the truth though, I would just as soon be in my canoe fishing instead of looking down a hole.

Frog Fishing
I got my own way of frog fishing. First I tie it to my wife's line and tell her where to cast in the slop. When she gets a blow up and freaks out I cast my worm or creature bait in and catch it ;D. It works better if our Preacher is fishin' near by then I don't have to hear them nasty words (at least till I get home!)

Whats the "Kissing" sound under the slop?
HMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmm! It has been said that if you remember the 60's you weren't there. : ;D You know though, if ya look around, it might be Bill Dance. Everytime I see him on the TV he's swappin' spit with some bass ( I think that's illegal in Wisconsin, everything else is.).

Help ID soft plastic
You would think so, but it's not. That is the weight pocket and it has some scratch marks on inside from the lead nail weights. I guess I will just have to settle on something close. I sure liked the little weight pockets and the lead nails weights. Good concept and they work well. :-/ Thanks for trying guys.

Help ID soft plastic
Here is an even older one of similar design, red/glitter, and the last one I have left. I would also like to get some more of these.

Help ID soft plastic
Ok so I have had a mess of bubble gum color soft plastic thingy's that I got shortly after the first Christmas ( me and Joe used to fish together when he was laid off from his carpenter job.). Anyway..., they are about 5 inches long have a flat wide curled up tail, worm/grub head 1 1/2 -2 inches long, and two holes slanted in where you can put one or two lead nail like weights. I like to fish these in the slop. I drag them over the top and let them fall in holes. They have a nice slow drop that can be controlled with the addition of the weights. I'll twitch them in the holes then move on with them. I acquired a basket full of them years ago, but am now running low and would like to get some more, but don't know what they are called. Can you help.

depth finder frequency
If you have two depth finders on the same frequency, and run them at the same time they can cause some screwy readings on either or both. I don't know if placing the transducers far apart makes a difference or placing the wires on different sides of the boat helps. Same thing can happen if you run your trolling motor off the same battery as your other electronics without grounding the trolling motor or at least the trolling motor battery to some metal below the water line (according to Minn Kota). I know you can run one unit on two transducers using a toggle switch, but I don't know if you can run two units on the same transducer, but I bet someone here does. I run one Humminbird mounted at the front on two transducers, one on the trolling motor (a wide side) and one on the transom (Tri-beam) using a toggle switch. I also have a Lowrance graph on the back of the boat. I want to mount the flasher at the console because I can read it quicker then my graphs and a flasher seems to react faster (I.M.O.) then a graph. Wait until I can afford a camera UFFDA!

depth finder frequency
Thanks BD I appreciate it. Seems the guy that has the 2330 that you saw on ebay figures all 2000 series were 200khz, HOWEVER another guy has a 2330 and he says 192khz??????????? :-/ Guess the only way to know for sure is direct from the factory. Heck maybe they made some of both! In either case once I start running I'll know because it will either screw up my 400 Humminbird or the old Lowrance graph.

fast tie knot tyer and the gryp knot
Does the grip knot hold well with the new super lines? This thing would be great for me and the wife, as we both have arthritis. I was about to ask what type of snap would work best because we have such a hard time tying knots. We miss a lot of fish on the hook set because of it too.

depth finder frequency
Thanks BD! I sent him a message inquiring about it. If I get an answer before Monday I will let you know. I have one that I got to work again, so I am going to install it in my bass boat along with my 2 graphs. I really like flasher units, probably because that's what I learned with, well that is after using an electric clip with a lead ball on it. I have been thinking about getting another one for ice fishing too!

depth finder frequency
Would anyone know what frequency the old Lowrance 2330 flasher would operate on. Also would anyone have a manual for this that they are willing to part with for a reasonable price, or can you point me in the right direction for one. Tried getting through to Lowrance by Internet, they sent me an email to call their tech support. I was on hold for 1/2 hour before giving up.

1000yds of Yozuri Hybrid...$6.88
- 1000yds of Yozuri Hybrid...$6.88
I just bought several 600 yard reels at the Walmart store for $4.00 per 600 yard reel. I only put it on my ice fishing reels, but I sure don't like it for that. It springs right off the reels. I am hoping it works better in the summer time. It is the regular stuff and it looks sort of brownish.- Flowages/Reservoirs revisited
Awhile back I had a few questions about a chain of small (by southern/western standards) reservoirs in my area. At that time I was advised to find out when the electric company does their water releases, and that I needed to time my fishing with the release of that water. I talked to a fellow that works on the turbines. He told me that since Wisconsin Public Service (they are the area power company) have the ability to store electricity, they are required by our DNR to comply with RIVER FLOW. From my understanding they need to keep a flow going through the gates at a rate that would equal that of the river. The only real time the gates are really wide open is when we have substantial rains. The sizes of these flowages range from 1500 acres at the head, then 1800 acres to progressively smaller 300 acres more or less until it goes back to straight river and ending in Lake Michigan. The flowages are more then 100 years old. I saw a draw down of the second reservoir last year, the trees left looked like telephone poles. There was water in the basin, but it looked more like an agricultural ditch then a river (no real features). Questions: How much of the original river channel do you think is still left? Armed with the information on the river flow thing, how would you handle these "Hill land" reservoirs. There are Muskies, Northerns, Walleye, as well as Small and Large-mouth bass. By the way, I would be happy to forward maps of both of the flowages to anyone that might want to help me I.D. areas to fish.- curious to know what you guys think about noise
I have to go with crazed on this one. It depends on if they are used to it or not. I sometimes bank fish on the Peshtigo river for smallies. The place I fish is the same place that they put in rafts for the whitewater run. When the rafters pull up, I haul in my line, light my pipe and watch the young folk carry on. They jump in the water, throw in their rafts, splash around then proceed down the river. There maybe twenty, thirity of them. Once they float down the river I watch the birds, and keep smokeing my pipe. After about 15 minutes I go back to fishing. I caught fish on the first cast sometimes. The bass just get the heck out of the way, the way I do. I don't know if they got a pipe to smoke, but I do suspect the watch the crazy land critters flopping in the water. When the land critters are gone they go back to messin' with me.- ICE, ICE, ICE!!!!
I live 1/4 mile from one of the top whitewater rivers in the upper mid west. It freezes solid every year. Twenty below weather does that (NO! I don't mean wind chill). I have been spraying hair spray in the air for years trying to warm it up a bit, now these clowns want to ruin all my work. > FYI A wind swept lake will freeze faster then a calm lake. That is because the wind action mixes the cold air and cold water, chilling the whole lake faster then if it were calm. :-? (Honest!)- Favorite Bass Cover
Reeds/rice/bullrushes, slop, wood, docks, rocks depends on sun/wind/ what I feel like fishing. :-/- So what type of angler are you?
Conservative...., oops wrong answer! I prefer shallow water, both in reeds, wood, and slop. Mostly because it feels more like hunting then fishing. I will however do what ever the situation calls for from ultra-lite to flippin' stick. We have a lot of muskies swimming around, so most of my equipment is pretty heavy duty.- Impoundments/reservoirs/flowages/ whoa is me!!
That is a neat piece of advise Powerman. I have a friend that works on the power company turbins and I bet he could get me some sort of schedule. I could plan my day around water releases. I have a ton of small lakes, creeks and rivers to fool around on, then could hit the flowages at prime time. Oh yeah, I am retired so I am forced to spend most of my time hunting or fishing. It's a tough job but someone has to do it. :-? I guess the smaller flowages are like the larger ones in some ways, but I have tried the suggestions for the large impoundments and a lot of them don't work. It is like the 50 acre lakes fish a little different then the 6000 acres lake. Sort of big city vs small town, people are people, but different.- Biggest fish of '07 so far...
Caught 2 through the ice while fishing for crappies, about the size of ww2farmer's perch. fishing around here is almost 50/50, half ice fishing, half open water.- Impoundments/reservoirs/flowages/ whoa is me!!
Most of my life I lived in an area that had natural lakes. The size varied from 50 acres to 6000 acres. I did ok on them. I moved to an area were they have flowages. Some are connected chain's others stand alone. All dammed for power. These range in size from 300 acres to 1800 acres, max depth 40-60 ft., stained water (tannin from trees not dirty). They usually aren't comfortable enough to swim in until August, then cool off in September. Surprise, I live in Northern Wisconsin not the far from the U.P. of Michigan. The information I have found on reservoirs talk about fishing the kick butt stuff like you southern and western guys have. Yours are measured in MILES not acres, and take hours to go from one end to the other. I get by fishing the flowages with my natural lakes methods, but I really think I could do better. Where could I get the "How To's" (books, videos, etc.) to fish these smaller, Hill land (I think so anyway) flowages. - 1000yds of Yozuri Hybrid...$6.88
