  1. I plan on buying one more HMG to put in the arsenal ! Kid is spoiled
  2. Likely. I use a ML/MF for Brook Trout and its perfect but wouldnt use that for bass
  3. I have a Fenwick HMG ML/F for nedrigs and it works just fine ! I will also get a Fenwick Elite Tech bass 6'10 ML/XF for dropshot rigs. I also use two 7' spinning rods, a medium and a medium-heavy, both Fast action with tubes, Power depends on tube weight, depth and cover.
  4. I have yet to spool mine with line but impressed so far ! Since its getting cold here i Will probably Wait next year to try it !
  5. I thought the same. I'll complete the arsenal and keep it for a while. I might go cheaper for the few rods/reels I have yet to Buy. I Will also check on used deals
  6. Mine is on the cheaper side. Fenwick Lunkerstik 7'3" Med/mod and I like it so far !
  7. I actually own this rod. Will try it next year for smaller crankbaits !
  8. I just received my Speed Demon spinning reel. Its nicer in real than the pictures. Might give it a try Saturday !
  9. Just a quick follow-up. I tried the Lunkerstik with a Citica 6.3:1 with a Flicker Shad size 7 tied with a rapala knot on 40# braid. Works beautifully but both the reel and the rod were at their limits.
  10. Here is what I did Monday. -Citica 6.3:1 on the Lunkerstik, with its braid tied with a rapala knot on a Flicker Shad size 7 -Curado on the Aetos with a swimjig dressed with a 3.5" paddletail -KK Assassin on the Bass X with a Houdini 5 on a 5/0 w-less swimbait hook I loved the lunkerstik but it was at its limit with the mid-depth diving Flicker Shad. A 5.3:1 reel might also been more suitable. The Curado on the Aetos isnt as nice as the Assassin since it weights much more but worked without a glitch the whole day. The Assassin needed the centrifugal brake to be pushed from 3 to 4 and worked OK but I felt I could add distance and sinking rate using lighter braid. I then ordered a Johncoo JC-200 which is a clone of the Assassin and will come with both a standard V-spool and a shallow spool that I plan on filing with 15 to 20lbs braid. My season is ending soon enough I'll likely play and complete the arsenal during winter.
  11. I'm doing a mix of this: but with a Palomar knot on both spinning and casting reel and works good with braid.
  12. The new LR looks like the new HMG, you are right ! I hope the HMG have better guides/reel seat and handle since its way pricier!
  13. +1 for cleaning And do not forget to loosen the drag after outings !
  14. I opened the side but I'm not sure which ring you are talking about ? It's noisier since I set the centrifugal brake for sure !
  15. Oh and the matte finish of the Assassin does not please everyone but I personnally like it and its kinda antislip as a bonus. The Assassin doesn't cradle in your hand like the RLE. I have Let's Say medium large hands and it Still feel good in hand though
  16. The clerk in Ottawa told me they should carry more stuff as they are integrating further in BPS. Hope its true !
  17. 1st I'm no baitcaster guru and second I do not own these for a long time so I did use them like 3 times. I just found out about the Assassin centrifugal brake. The RLE is very easy to dial in and fits nicely in palm, they advertise the "palm fit" feature and I can say they're right about it, I thought that before I even noticed the advertised tech features. The RLE cast my frogs a mile, do not backlash but is heavier than the Assassin. The light Assassin+Aetos combo makes me feel like I have a fencing sword in my hands ! I will use the assassin extensively tomorrow with a Bass X med/fast rod with weightless 5" flukes, I will update tomorrow night or Tuesday morning since it will be its first outing since I found the centrifugal brakes LOL !
  18. @LionHeart thanks for your answer ! Makes sense !
  19. I will likely put the Mojo's Curado on it for the week-end as I get to use more the Aetos than the long Mojo Bass. It's a 7speed, I'll see how I like it. If I set the KVD aside, what could I throw the frog on ?
  20. It's a medium heavy/fast action, my swimjig rod. I would like to tie a white/black jig dressed with a Berkley 3.5in Ripple shad on it as the bass are on shad round here at this time of year !
  21. I borrowed the reel that's usually on the Aetos to temporarily (or not) put it on the Bass X to throw 5" flukes this week-end. There is still an orphan rod whatsoever
  22. Hi guys, After reading and posting here: And creating this topic for a crank rod: I finally ended up buying stuff and I now need to make full combos (Rod-Reel-Line) The problem is that I actually do not have enough reels for all the rods so I will likely need 1 more (maybe two, as a telecom tech guy I hate not having a spare !) Here is what I have so far: Quantum Team KVD 6'10" H/F paired with a KK Royale Legend Elite 8.1:1, braid 50lbs, my current frog setup St.Croix Mojo Bass Flippin' 7'11" H/MF paired with a Shimano Curado 200IHG 7.2:1 with 50lbs braid. I'm using it for heavier jigs (5/8) in heavier cover Fenwick Aetos 7'0" MH/F paired with a KK Assassin (6.3:1), with 40lbs braid used for jigs (3/8 or 1/2) Fenwick Lunker Stik 7'3" M/M paired with a lightly "modded" Citica 200E (6.3:1), 40lbs braid, for small to medium size crankbaits St.Croix Bass X 6'6" M/F, currently has the Aetos' KK Assassin reel on, destinated to throw soft jerkbaits on So, my 1st question is how, kinda playing musical chair, can I enhance my combos with what I have ? My second one is am I right with the job I give the combo's actually or I can use them in a better way ? My 3rd question is which reel ratio should I buy next and to pair with which rod ? My last question is can I use something I already have for spinnerbaits/chatterbaits/buzzbaits and are these usually thrown on the same combo?
  23. Oh and as far as I read, I do not have to go 5ish for the ratio as the medium power will not let me use Deep divers and/or larger CB anyway ? I put a spare Citica 200e 6.3:1 I had. This reel has a Curado spool and a bushing changed for a bearing and works just fine ! It actually has braid on (40 Power Pro) but I will change for fluorocarbon before next year. I don't think I'd go mono, I felt the rod had plenty of give when casting in the backyard.
  24. I first thought my Assassin was harder to dial in than my Royale Legend Elite until I found out the centrifugal brake ? I'm so dumb sometimes ? Really got to RTFM here and then ! Its a mater of personal preference but I also like the matte black finish, and it's grippier than slick clear finishes, which help. Happy to read it held so far
  25. I'm using an HMG 6'9" ML/F with a size 1000 reel. My setup is Working good so far. I'm using 1/5 and 1/6 ned rig heads
