- Best baits this spring/summer?
1/16th oz slider head and a Zoom finesse worm, Junebug/Chart tail or Pumpkin. Worked great in the mighty Allegheny.- How to kill yourself while wading alone. FACT !!
I still wade creeks and rivers but only with my 18” rubber boots. So generally no more than shin deep. Even then I try to be really cautious cause I usually fish alone. If it limits my reach, so be it.- Alternate Trout Baits?
I’ve done pretty well with the Trout Magnet crankbait, in the Hawk pattern. I fish it in creeks like a small jerk bait. Catches smallies and rock bass too.- Interesting experience at BPS yesterday....this ever happen to you?
I live near Pittsburgh, PA so nearest Cabela’s is an hour away. Nearest BPS is 3.5 hours. It’s probably better this way. I spend enough dough with online retailers and a great little bait shop about 20 minutes away.- What do you think is the ideal rod length for creek/river smallmouth fishing?
6’ or 6’ 6” M or ML for the creeks and river I fish. Ned rig, slider heads/worms, small cranks.- Beetle spin - anyone use different bodies?
I started using a beetle spin this year and have done OK with it, mostly in small creeks, smallies and rock bass. But the body doesn’t really seem to have much action. I know this is a time tested, proven fish catcher, but does anyone use anything else for the “beetle”? I’m thinking like a little 2-3” grub or a Bobby Garland baby shad on an 1/8th or 1/16th oz. Anyone doing this, if so, what works for you?- You ever misplaced any tackle?
I misplaced a bitsy bug jig in some trees after dragging across the bottom of a stream and not checking my line. It was quite impressive, it looked like the space shuttle going into orbit until it disappeared into the canopy.- For the Bank fisherman: What "pushes" your buttons while fishing?
Trash for sure is number 1 thing that aggravates me. Another is the “Allegheny River Armada” of crew boats and their coaches going up and down. I rarely go there anymore because of it.- What is your favorite lure that doesn't work?
I have yet to catch a fish on a whopper plopper. They look and sound really cool though....- Why do some bass not have a well defined lateral line?
Chuck Darwin. Natural variation occurs among the individuals of any population of organisms- Species count for 2019
Largemouth Smallmouth Walleye Sauger Rock Bass Bluegill Pumpkinseed Black Crappie Green Sunfish Freshwater Drum Rainbow Trout Brown Trout Brook Trout Creek Chub- Where did they all go?
I just finished a frustrating 2 days on local creeks here in Western PA. Targeting smallmouth. Caught a nice rainbow 10 minutes into my day yesterday, then.................whole lotta nuthin’. Got a couple small taps, that’s about it. The water is low and super clear. I wasn’t even seeing any. I moved around a good bit, hit a lot of spots. Top water, small cranks, spinners, jig, trick worm. Anyone else getting shut out? Maybe it’s something I’m doing wrong?- Crankbaits ... single hook?
Thanks for the input. I’m gonna give it a try.- Crankbaits ... single hook?
I know a lot of folks on here upgrade the trebles on their crankbaits, but what about replacing them with a single hook? Will this cause the bait to run incorrectly? Decrease hookup ratio? I was out today and caught a bunch of largemouth bass on a KVD 1.0 around shallow weeds. About 30% had the rear treble stuck on the side of the body somewhere with the front treble in the lip. I think it would be a quicker and cleaner release with a single hook. ...just thinkin’ out loud. thanks Joe- Finding a comfortable kayak
+1 on the Perception Pescador Pro 100. I got one last year and it has a camp chair, very comfortable. You can put the seat in two different positions, high or low. I keep mine up high because I’m not as nimble as I once was. Brand new they go around $750 but you might find a used one for a lot less.- "Best Of" BassResource.com
Nicely done! I'll be reading through these for sure.- Something You Have Yet to Accomplish in Fishing...
A 50 fish day. I’ve had about 20 once or twice.- Favorite Fishing Theme Song
Fishin’ Hole - Andy Griffith Show theme ( there ARE lyrics) Fishin’ Blues - Taj Mahal Fishin’ - Elvin Bishop Fishin’ Again - Elvin Bishop Fish Ain’t Bitin’ - Corey Harris- Do you get frustrated with catching dinks?
I’m not good enough to get mad at catching dinks. If I’m catching fish, I’m having a blast. If I’m not, it’s still better than being at work. Fishing is like therapy and it’s way cheaper!- Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Out with my boys yesterday and went to Field & Stream to look at the wildlife displays. They had SK KVD stuff at "buy 3, get 1 free". Picked up 4 KVD 1.5 shallow crankbaits. The whole time, I'm saying to myself, "I don't even need these"....- Spinning combo questions
Thanks guys. The bait monkey...heh. I think we already met. That baitcaster idea keeps tappin’ me on the shoulder. Never used one, so I’m gonna stick with spinning combos for now. What about a MH 7’ spinning combo rated 1/4 to 1 oz with 20lb braid (6lb mono backing) for the soft plastics and jig?- Spinning combo questions
Ok, sorry if this rambles folks. I currently use 3 spinning combos for my fishing. - Lew’s American Hero 6’ 6” Medium (6lb Trilene XT) - Daiwa Samurai X 6’ 6” Medium (not spooled at the moment) - Quantum 6’ Medium (6lb Trilene XL) i used to use exclusively live bait but this year I started experimenting with inline spinners - Mepps, Rooster tail, Joes flies jigs- 1/8 to 1/4 oz with a 3” grub or 3” craw trailer topwaters - Zara puppy, Pop-R, Tiny torpedo soft plastics - Yum dingers 4” & 5” wacky rig or Texas rig. Everything I throw is 1/8, 3/16 or 1/4 oz, occasionally 3/8 oz. All of these setups feel OK when I use them, occasionally a 1/4 or 3/8 oz jig feels a little heavy, I think it may be I’m not used to fishing this way. My question is: Do any of these setups seem “wrong” or otherwise “inappropriate “ to the gear I’m using? thanks, Joe- Hello from Pittsburgh
Hey everybody, new member here. My name is Joe and I'm from Pittsburgh, PA. Been fishing for some years now, mostly been a "worm or minnow under a bobber" kind of fisherman. I've been looking into getting more into different techniques. I've been experimenting with inline spinners, jigs and plastic worms. I'm looking forward to picking up some helpful tips on the forums. Great to be here! Joe - Best baits this spring/summer?
