  1. Looks like a match.
  2. Congrats! Senkos can get pricey, but if you live near a Bass Pro Shop, their house Stik-O worms have a very similar action to the GY and are quite a bit cheaper. Of course at your rate you won't need new worms for a bit.
  3. I'm not in San Antonio, I am in Houston, but I found a great little pond like 5 minutes from me just going on Google Maps and looking for bodies of water. I didn't even know if there was any fish in the pond, just went out and tried fishing it. It's become my favorite fishing pond and I am pretty sure I've caught my PB there; I do not have a scale so I didn't measure. That would be my advice. It is pretty fun seeing if you can catch them in small urban spots.
  4. As a noob I am interested in the answer to this from more experienced anglers.
  5. Anyone have an over glasses recommendation?
  6. Had never heard of Megabass, but those are some good looking, expensive, baits. No way I can afford that on my frugal fishing budget, but I may slurge and get a Dark Sleeper. Still hoping your stuff shows up. You might set up a craiglist alert and one for Facebook Marketplace if they have a similar option.
  7. Took me a bit but I do well with a wacky rigged 4" senko bank fishing. Seems like if a fish scoffs your first bait, they bite that senko wiggle on the follow up.
  8. I don't have a favorite...yet. I have actually not thrown a jig yet, but I picked up a green pumpkin boo jig and I am going put a Zoom super speed craw on it and hope for the best. Let's be realistic, I will probably snag it and lose it before I catch anything.
  9. Getting skunked sucks, but if it is ruining your day, that sucks even more. I guess I fish because my son showed some interest in it after watching Catching Monsters, but now that he is in school I am practicing for when we get to go out together. It is also new and I find it fun. I am trying to be frugal about it and I think I have all the tackle I need which actually is not all that much with the exception of jigs. I bought my first so I need to go snag it soon. At the end of the day I guess you need to ask yourself the question, because if it is ruining your day maybe you just need to step away from it for a bit, maybe fish another species, or find something else to spend your time on that you are going to get something out of. I would go out with you if you were in Texas, but maybe there are some other anglers in your area willing to meet up and take you out. Might try the regional forums. Also, I cannot catch panfish for my life and people say that is supposed to be easy.
  10. I fish them until I can no longer rig it, or I lose it. I even have a couple senkos that have lasted a few fish and a couple trips.
  11. I guess I am an accidental "finesse" fisherman. None of my baits or tackle weighs more than 1/4 oz. Works for me.
  12. I am still following this thread and was wondering if you have checked - http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7749.html I do not know exactly where you are in NY, but maybe you can find some more waters to check out. They also have stocking reports to look at.
  13. Those Youtubers are editing down hours of footage to show you 10-15 minutes of catching, not fishing. But you can watch Realistic Fishing get skunked. I think part of looking at Google maps and going out to some random pond is trying to find out if there are fish in there. The few times I went to scope out something new I took one rod and reel, a Daiwa Legalistic 2500 on a 7' medium Ugly Stik GX2. I have been starting with a small spinnerbait 1/8 oz and fan cast. Eventually I will switch to a wacky rigged stick bait or a Texas rigged baby brush hog with a 1/8 oz worm weight and follow my way back up to the car. Look for tall grass along the banks, points, or anything that is different from the rest of the bank and fish a little slower there. I know I was pretty frustrated when I started and felt like I wasn't getting it, but I some out caught a couple dinks and just built from that experience. Stay at it and try to chat up some other fishermen you might see out there.
  14. I don't have the experience to think I can answer this definitively, but I am sure there is a trade off in portability with the overall sensitivity and strength. That said I am interested in the Kastking Pedigree rods that offer you twin tips on their two piece rods. Clever selling point on a two piece.
  15. I picked up an Abu Garcia UltraMax combo at Dick's for $40. It is my first baitcaster, but am happy so far.
  16. Sufix does - https://www.cabelas.com/product/Sufix-Elite-Hi-Vis-Yellow-ndash-Yards/703065.uts
  17. Hello! Also from Houston here.
  18. I've had great luck in ponds with both the Booyah Pond Magic Spinnerbait and Buzzbait, both white or they may call the color shad. I also have thrown a wacky rigged senko with success, green pumpkin and black. Also, using 8lb mono if it makes a difference. I would go closer to dawn or dusk, and throw a senko while still pretty far from the bank on the approach. Good luck!
  19. That monkey works for someone, on commission.
  20. I called ahead and they held it for me so I knew the trip was worth it. It was actually my first time in a.....forgot how to use English's and it actually looked better than the Academy I go to. There was lots of stuff on sale and clearance, so I might go back and look for some jigs. I am trying to do all this pretty frugally.
  21. Also found a Bass Pro Shops XPS Rattle Shad cleaning up some line I found on the bank, so that is what $4 back? I'll be making money soon. -- tDd
  22. Bought my first bait caster yesterday and spooled it with 15lb Jawbone mono. Caught two fish today. I figure I will stick with mono until I am more confident in my casting.
