Lure made to twist line?
Spinning reels always twist line in the same direction (let's say clockwise, for the sake of argument), so shouldn't it be possible to untwist line by putting on a lure or device that twists the line counter-clockwise for a few minutes? Has anyone ever marketed such a thing? It seems like something pretty simple to do. You could put a line tie at either end, so you could choose which direction you wanted it to twist.

The Found Lures Thread
It seems like fish retreat to the deepest parts of the lake when the water level starts dropping dramatically. Makes fishing tough. When it first starts dropping, it can improve fishing, but after a certain point, it dies off and doesn't come back until the water comes back. I've been wondering what these droughts are doing to the fish population out west. It's a good time to find skirts, even if the rest of the jig is deteriorated. Skirts last many years underwater.

This is what can happen when someone leaves their fishing line hanging in a tree
That happens to me all the time fishing from the bank. I got snagged on some the other day that must have been 100# test and it almost brought me down onto the rip-rap.

This Makes Me Mad.
Oh, so they take a pic of all the fish in the well?

The Found Lures Thread
Found this laying on the bank a while back. I've found a lot of nice lures, but I think this is my favorite lure of all time. I like some of the other models better though.

This Makes Me Mad.
Is there any logic behind this? I used to know a guy that did that, but I never thought to ask him why. I mean, I know they think it won't harm the fish, but why would they want to save them to the end instead of like you said, take the pic when they catch them?

This is what can happen when someone leaves their fishing line hanging in a tree
Anybody know how to get rid of this mess? You can't pick it up, it's all tangled up with stuff around it. Fire is about all I can think of, but I don't think the park management would appreciate that. With my luck, the fire would get out of hand, even with a lake full of water a foot away.

This is what can happen when someone leaves their fishing line hanging in a tree
I don’t watch fishing videos very much, but I’ve wondered if any of those popular people making videos ever spend any time teaching some of the basic things like this. Jeez. That would be hard to watch that heron struggling to get free. That’s got to be a good feeling to free that big bird.

The latest sale thread
Looks like it's online only though, which is still okay since the online stock is much better than the stock at my local store. Looks like they have more Zoom colors in stock than they did a while back.

This is what can happen when someone leaves their fishing line hanging in a tree
Found this guy this morning as I was heading out to fish. I ended up not getting much fishing done. Apparently someone had been standing under the tree casting from the bank and got hung up above their heads. The line was only about 10 feet off the ground, and it took me less than a minute to get the line out of the tree using a stick that was laying just a few feet away. They obviously didn't even try to get the line down, they just left it there and this poor bird flew into it. The owl landed on its feet after I got the line down, and puffed up in a defensive posture. It still had line all wrapped around the tip of its wing though. I didn't know if it could reach the tip of its wing with its beak or talons, and it was so worn out from hanging upside down in that tree all night it could barely move, so I didn't want to just leave it to fend for itself. I called the park management and a nice young lady came out with some thick gloves and a towel and captured the owl, which was surprisingly easy since it was so worn out. The owl is now with a local animal rehabilitation center. Hopefully it will pull though. There's no need for this beautiful creature to die like that. I know you fine folks know better than to leave line in trees like that, but I just wanted to put this out there for the slim chance that I might get through to someone who doesn't know what can happen.

Wife is hard on her new reel, looks terrible
The bearing inside the line roller (your second picture) needs to be taken out and cleaned and oiled. I just did maintenance on mine that I haven't used much, and I was amazed how much junk was caked on that bearing. It's not sealed very well. You might want to sand the lip on that spool and the bail wire too.

Abu Garcia Gen Ike EZ Cast
Too late to help that user, but maybe somebody else will find this useful. I found one of these combos today, brand new, at the lake. Somebody probably bought it for the holiday weekend and got so frustrated with it, they just left it. It's supposedly designed for kids, to help them learn to use a baitcaster, but I had a hard time using it and I'm experienced with baitcasters. It has an "ez cast" feature, like a bar across the top, that I never could figure out how to use, other than to turn it off. I think you're supposed to use it like thumbing the spool, but thumbing the spool is much easier. It's like a baitcaster with the brakes set to maximum and no way to back them off, and the tension knob is too tight and very hard to turn. Lots of plastic inside, hard to imagine it would last very long. There's a manufacturing defect that might have been the cause of OP's problem. This video shows how to correct it. Mine didn't have this problem. I'm not out to bash their product. If I had to find something positive to say about it, it's only like $40 for the combo, it looks pretty, it's a baitcaster, and the rod has more body than you usually see on these cheap combos.

The Found Lures Thread
I've found a lot of lures, but I don't think I've ever found any in my garage. ? I don't find many baits this time of the year. This is my time for losing lures.

Effects of cicadas on fishing ?
I used to have a cicada jitterbug, but I don't think that's the right action. Something like a tiny torpedo is probably closer. I had a cicada land on my head when I was fishing. I didn't realize it was there. I felt something crawling on my head. I reached up there and felt that big ol' thing and it freaked me out. I swiped it off my head and it landed in the water and buzzed around on the surface for a minute or so before flying off. It looked great in the water. If it had stayed there much longer, I'm sure something would have hit it.

Lure Modifications
That blade bait is made by Megabass. I think it's called a "Blading X".

Lure Modifications
I'm trying to imagine what you are talking about when you say "face backwards". I guess you mean turned up instead of down? You mean a lipless crank with hooks like the blade bait this picture?

Interesting experience at BPS yesterday....this ever happen to you?
This isn't about BPS, really is it? It's about not being able to find anything you want, much less need, because you already have it all (that you can afford). I've driven 20 miles round-trip to Academy, expecting to get that bait monkey fix, but after spending half an hour in the store, picking up things and then putting them back after thinking about it rationally, I've found myself leaving empty-handed. It is a weird feeling. In a way I'm proud of myself for having the restraint and not just throwing away money, but I'm also amgry for not getting a new toy. You could always get into fly fishing.

The Fishing pant; (outside the box). SWIM TIGHTS?!
I guess it depends on the room temp. I hate warm water too. I can't take much of it, and you're right - it doesn't quench the same. I like it around 60-70 degrees - not cold, but not warm. In the summertime, a little colder is okay. My Yeti thermos keeps it at the same temp even after it's been sitting in the car for a few hours in the sun. I'm not trying to push Yeti, I never would have spent that much myself. I found mine, full of ice water someone left. It had been sitting there for at least overnight.

Zoom big dead ringer...
My buddy gave me one to try, and it does look good in the water. I didn't catch anything with it, but he had good luck with them. I think it's kind of a specialty thing - you might want to have a pack in your toolbox, but I wouldn't get carried away with them and stock up.

I agree it's better to talk to your doctor than to depend on info from some random stranger on the internet.

Dehydration thickens your blood and raises your blood pressure. You're supposed to get 4 quarts/liters of water a day, which is probably more than most people actually get. I use a one-liter thermos and fill it with water several times a day to make it easier to keep up with whether I'm getting enough water. It's a lot easier than trying to count 16 cups a day. Room temperature water is much easier to drink than cold water. I can down a liter in a few minutes.

Palomar knot troubleshooting
I tried it on some 8# mono and it broke tying it as pictured, but held tight wrapping it the way you described. Interesting knot. Kind of a mix between a Palomar and San Diego Jam. I like the double thickness, but it seems to stress the line a good bit while tying, and it slipped a little on me one time. Maybe I just need more practice, but it seems like it's not as idiot proof as the SDJ, so I'll stick with the SDJ.

10 Small Things That Will Make Big Changes In Your Bass Fishing
Polarization depends on your position relative to the sun. An easy way to demonstrate this is to look up into a blue sky and you'll see the sky is much darker blue in one direction. In some situations, polarization doesn't help to see fish at all, and the tint on the glasses actually make it harder to see underwater. All polarization does is cut through the glare, and it only works at certain angles. They can help a lot, but they're not magic. Brand doesn't matter when it comes to polarization - that part is the same on all polarized glasses, it's the glass/plastic, frames and tint that vary.
