I once left my backpack, full of fishing gear, at a popular bank-fishing spot. I went home and mowed the grass, and when I went to get my gear out of my car, I realized I had left my backpack at the lake. Fortunately the lake is only a few miles away. I drove crazy back down there, trying to take a mental inventory of all the gear I had probably lost forever. I got there and there was a guy fishing right next to my backpack, but all my stuff was still there. I was really surprised and really happy.

I would be happy to give you some for free for such a great project, but I'm not willing to eat the shipping charges. I wonder if there's some way to ship like C.O.D. for the shipping charges.

One reason I use a leader is in case I get hung up / snagged, I only leave behind a couple feet of line in the lake, as opposed to the hundreds of feet some of my fellow fishermen leave behind. I’ve seen line wrapped around herons, bald eagles, ospreys, ducks, etc. It’s a sad sight.

Yes, Eddie, I am serious. Too many things to reply to: I don’t think I ever caught one on a Senko either, but to be fair, I don’t try them enough to give them a fair chance. I just don’t like the way they look as much as a lot of other soft plastics. Life is too short to keep throwing something that you aren't enjoying. Every Ned rig I have thrown I have lost to a snag within 15 minutes or so. I like the way they look, but again, I haven’t thrown them enough to catch a fish. Rigged weedless, they don't look as good. Never caught anything on the drop shot, but tried. Not a good bank technique. I started with baitcasters, then moved to spinning. Most people do the opposite. I still have baitcasters, but I prefer spinning 100%. I don’t care much for ribbontail worms, except for those over 10”. Never bought a Whopper Plopper either, but I currently own 8 that I’ve found here and there. I’ve lost a few besides. I don’t care so much for lipped crankbaits either. I’ve caught quite a few fish on them, but I don’t throw them as much as I use to. I prefer soft plastics, topwater and lipless. I love the way glide baits look, and I’ve tried a lot, but I don’t think I ever caught one with them either. Tried wacky rig a few times, but didn’t care for it. Never caught one on an A-rig. Fishing buddy used to call it the idiot bait, and he threw it all the time.

I don't think you're alone, not by a long shot. As a bank fisherman in a heavy pressured lake who would love to be in a boat with electronics, I walk the banks watching boat after boat beating the banks, going round and round like it was NASCAR. Fishing all the areas bank fishermen have fished to death. Doesn't matter what time of the year. If they try getting more than 50 feet from the bank, it's just for a few minutes. It's very rare I see anyone really hunting with their electronics, but on the rare occasions I do, I see them catching lots of fish.

Found lure hoarder here. I've got hundreds of lures that I've found. At one time the box on the left was for lures that were not worth keeping, and the box on the right were ones that I might eventually put new hardware on, but the two boxes have gotten mixed up. I've got hundreds of good lures that I never use. There's no reason to keep all these things but I just can't throw them away.

I bought one a year ago, my first President, and the bail spring broke within a month or so. I fixed it and kept using it, but a few months later I bought a Daiwa Legalis and I liked it so much more that I hardly ever use the President anymore.

I think it's to the industry's benefit to keep things vague. I suspect a lot of the money for the top of the line rods goes more to research & development and marketing more than the actual production cost. I also suspect there's a much higher profit margin, which is why you see such huge discounts when they do go on sale. But I'm just speculating, I don't know. I'm happy with a $25 rod. I'm sure a $400 rod is better, but I've never fished with one, and I think maybe I'm better off not knowing ?

I guess that's an article on Kistler Rods' site? I found this part interesting: It would be nice if those numbers were shared with the consumer. I think OP is looking for a tangible reason to pay for high-end rods, like that kind of specification that shows the extra cost is worth it.

Good question. I don't know the answer, so I copied and edited that from another site. I think it's part of the answer you're looking for, but I think your question is kind of like asking, "What makes one chili recipe better than another?" It's somewhat subjective. The ingredients in the recipe (blank) are not the most important factor, it's how they are combined. Maybe you think learning more about the materials will make it easier to shop for rods, but it's like choosing a chili based on looking at the recipe instead of tasting it. That's why nobody in this thread is really answering the question you asked, they are instead telling you what properties you should be looking for in a rod. I think you are wise to ask the question though. The fact that there isn't an answer makes rods a very profitable business for some.

It is weird. I've been to Zoom's site a few times and never seen anything for sale other than the apparel stuff. I had to dig around to even find the "Purchase Links". One is a Facebook link, a couple of the links are outdated. Zoom sells on Amazon, I wonder if the sale is in effect there? I guess I just need to start a cart and see if that code works on Amazon. Edit to add: The prices on Amazon are crazy. One color shows a price of $17.80, one shows $1.48.

I think it's good to focus on fewer baits, just not wise to sell all the others.

If I ever see any, I may give that a try, but I've just about used up all the worms I was having an issue with. I had above-average good luck with them too, even though they smell terrible. I've also been using some old Mann's Jelly Worms that I bought back in the late 70's. They smelled real strong too after sitting in a tackle box for 40 years, so I had just stuck them in a drawer and forgot about them. I've been having really good luck with them too.

What does saltwater have to do with it? Are you trying to raise money for saltwater gear? Obviously there is, or they wouldn't exist, but you can probably catch just as many fish by substituting a chatterbait or swim jig. There's really nothing like slowly retrieving a squarebill just below the surface, or dancing a lipless. Selling them you'll probably get less than half of what you paid for them and they'll be gone forever. I'd like to thin my herd a little too, but I wouldn't get rid of a whole category of any kind of lures.

Competitive is one word for it, greedy and jealous are a couple more words that describe how they act when they see another fish getting something to eat. They can be triggered to eat out of jealousy. The closest I ever came to getting a double was with a lipless crankbait. I hooked a little LM about 8" long and almost had it all the way to the bank when I saw a LM about 3 pounds come up and try to steal the lipless crankbait away from the smaller fish. For a couple seconds they were both hooked, then the smaller one got away and I landed the 3 pounder. I was standing up on a high bank about 5 feet over the water, so I could see the whole thing real clear. It was awesome. For that couple seconds they were both hooked, I thought my rod would break. I've caught much larger fish, but those two being on the same hook was a huge jerk, like I'd hooked onto a monster.

You might have a bait monkey on your back if you spend most of your money on lures that you don’t even know what lures they’re going to be.

With smaller blades, the type of trailer used can have an effect. Try removing the trailer altogether and see what happens.
