Bass fishing confessions

Featured Replies

What are your deep, dark fishing secrets? I'll start.

Y'all know the Senko? The stick bait that's caught gobs and gobs of fish?

I have never, ever caught a fish on one. I read the FAQ, watched hours of video about it, all that.

Never even got a sniff, as far as I'm aware. Not weighted. Not unweighted. Not wacky. Not Neko.

Not ever.

I have never had a bite on a jig. I have only caught a few on wacky rigged senkos ( although I slay them on a T rig. ) I have stated that on several other threads. A deep dark secret?? ? ??

T-Rigs are my bane

I use them regularly - various weights, various worms/lizards/whatever, various places.

Not once have I caught a fish on one.

The first fish I caught when I got back into fishing was a freshwater drum on a t-rigged Ol' Monster in the tailwater of a dam I grew up fishing at.

So ribbontails I like. Sticks, not so much. :D

Funny, it's the exact opposite for me. Catch them quite often on a senko, never on a ribbon tailed worm.

(I know I'm gonna open a can of worms with this one)

Exactly - where else can you find a sport where you spend thousands of dollars, hundreds of hours of time to catch something that you...throw back?

I'm in my 40's. I've been fishing for years. I've caught thousands of bass in my lifetime on ALL kinds of techniques.

I have never, ever fished a drop shot. Not even once.

We’ve covered this but let’s go...

Caught a fish on everything but a drop shot. Hell, I sit down to tie the knot watching instructions and lose interest as the first commercial is on..Next thing I know, 9 beers are gone, sportscenter is on and there is muffled BS coming from upstairs..eh. Batteries are charged, meet at the ramp at 5:45

I was talking to a friend about this today. Professionally, as a developer, basically I solve puzzles for money.

When I think about bass fishing, I think about it the same way. Based on (list of variables), what's gonna get me bit today? And it's endlessly fascinating to me, getting continually beaten by an animal with a brain the size of a pea, that works solely on instinct, that will eat almost anything.

I look at it more like hunting. You spend the money and take time to polish your skills in order to put something in the freezer and eventually on the table.

I confess that I dont throw spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, wormies and I dont own a spinner reel...

At this point, I'm pretty sure I could catch a bass on half a flip flop with a barbless treble before a stupid glide bait.

I just don't get it.

I'm hunting my state's record LM. I'll let ya'll know if I catch her.

  • Super User

After much thought, I believe that I've caught bass on about every type of lure except a buzz bait, granted I didn't, and still don't fish them a lot.

That makes two of us. I bank fish and the technique just doesn't fit me.
