H20 Xpress Ethos rods. Designed by a couple Texas fisherman and manufactured overseas. No different than the design and manufacturing of name branded rods.

I have caught many bass on it. Throwing it along the weedless bank and slow cranking in. Makes a good wake and great action!

There are days where everything is perfect but the fish just are not biting. I tell that to any newbie before he sets foot in my boat. When it happens some still enjoy the day out on the water and some say it was a waste of their day. (those don't ever get invited again). When the bite gets tough....I go small and then smaller.

Just curious, but when you get to the point where you are worried about a possible 3-5 IPT difference between 2 reels..are you overthinking fishing? Not trying to be a smart@ss...honest question.

I am a big proponent of not overthinking it and get called out for it quite often. I have friends who enjoy the over-studying, over purchasing and overthinking. I really think they believe that all bass have a topographical map of the lake they reside in and also view the lake from above the water same as we do. When it comes down to actually fishing they are so exhausted and confused they rarely have a good day. I think its quite common that some people enjoy all that goes into preparing for fishing...than the actual fishing itself. My2cents

Brendan, I think your dad would be happy with any 6'6" medium action graphite rod you get him. I wouldn't overthink it since it seems there's is no specific type of fishing mentioned and its more for general purpose.

2 brakes set and I never touch those again. My tension knob will take it from that point forward.

Mono - once a season unless I get an unusual breakoff. Braid - Not sure yet...never changed them
