  1. When you skip far enough under a dock then get bit there's a good chance the fish will either wrap you around something or get close to it. Heavier line deals with abrasion better when pulling fish out or away from pilings and cables. If you can stay away from pilings, then sure, stick with light line.
  2. LJ, none of the reels mentioned will require you to have huge hands. I have good sized mitts, but nothing close to Shaq I'm sure, and I have zero problems palming the larger reels I own. No discomfort either fishing with them, but I can't say the same thing for the smallest of the bunch. Too small of a frame can cause fatigue depending on your palm's size and shape. Also, any particular grip I've used has never caused a dial to change settings on a Daiwa. Not once. Not an issue for any of my friends either. I've also never had a Daiwa's dial chafe me, but sometimes this is a complaint.
  3. Top to bottom Curado K Lew’s Tournament Pro LFS Daiwa Catalina. Same size as Tat 150 Quantum Tour S3
  4. During my nightly walks with my 75lb pooch Lillie the highlight is when she cries her 130lb boyfriend Brody over to the fence gate for a sniff. That's as good as it gets for this pair though, until this day. For once he was having a walk while we were out. Lillie cried when she saw him, then pulled me right up to him, but immediately spun out like a top with her hind quarters down and yelped. She repeated this game of running up to him, spinning away, and yelping several times until in total frustration Brody reared up, howled, then flattened himself to the ground making himself appear as small as possible. Comforted, she finally came in for a proper sniff, and he got a muzzle lick in.
  5. When the weeds and pads are in full bloom it doesn't get any worse than where I fish. Never had a problem pulling any fish out of the junk using single disk drag Daiwas like a Fuego or a Tat CT/SV. They aren't the last word in published or tested drag numbers, but are quite up to the task for bass fishing. I've locked down the drag and pulled in logs using them with heavy braid that wouldn't break. Don't sweat published drag figures. Exactly which baits will you be throwing?
  6. I've caught plenty of small bass with fiber weed guards installed. I'm not worried about it. I'd rather be secure throwing it anywhere I felt like it.
  7. LJ, Why do you have it in mind that very high drag numbers are that important? Real question.
  8. That's my specialty, especially after my 3rd Long Island Iced Tea.
  9. My SIL is very happy with his. Got it from the Fleet farm sale you posted last year. Something like $53 with free shipping.
  10. Stay through into dark once or twice and see what happens. Hopefully you don't have an addictive personality. Don't always fish a fluke like you think you're supposed to. Drag it. Drag/pause it. Drag/pop it. Swim it through pads like a topwater and let it drop in. Endless ways to present it that'll get you bit.
  11. I have a hard time being pulled away from the shrimp cocktail platter at weddings, especially after my 3rd Long Island Iced Tea.
  12. The the other night the Chinese restaurant pooched my chicken and broccoli combo and sub'd in shrimp instead. I gobbled it up. I've caught, cleaned, and eaten flounder and fluke, but they aren't scarce here like bass are, and I didn't have a feeling about that. Plus, bass here are more like my pets. Pets that I don't mind terrorizing with sharp objects for my pleasure. I've never claimed to be sane
  13. Catch & Release has been the rule in my county forever due to low bass populations per acre. It's just what I'm used to. Let 'em go and let 'em grow has always been my mindset. Perhaps the fact that the populations are low makes them seem more precious than they actually are, possibly, but that fact makes me have reverence for them whether it's deserved or not. Besides that I never order a fish dinner at a restaurant. It's not my thing, so I never catch a bass and think "yummy". A few years ago a buddy through another hobby stopped by who happens to live in upstate NY on a lake. I showed him a pic of a 7 pounder. He said that I must've eaten for a week. I told him that I let it go, and he was truly shocked. He's a casual fisherman, and it turns out he eats whatever he catches. He was excited for me to visit his place to go fishing, but said there's no way we're letting any go, and that he keeps what I catch, especially if it's a big one. I never went. I know @king fisher has to occasionally surrender DDs to the Tilapia fisherman, but my buddy can go scratch. It takes ten years to grow a 5 pounder in our climate. I'm not gonna watch that mook club one on the noggin or listen to it flop around in a bucket, friend or not. I suppose if I visited another state where keeping them was the norm I'd just avert my eyes then go home and cry myself to sleep.?
  14. My brother has 2 Zs and and Z3. Loves them. My buddy has an A2. Loves it. They're both large humans with large hands. The reels are small, but the frame ergos are unique. You should hold one first to make sure it's comfy.
  15. The reason for this is because its spool is only 30mm tall. Line pickup would be extra slow with in a low 6 spd.
  16. The real question should be is Tanso superior to plastic CI4+ or Zaion which are both proven materials for reel frames. Also, the shapes used in those tests have little in common to the boxed shape of a fishing reel's frame, and this isn't a small point. FWIW, my next reel will be a gen 2 Custom Pro SLP.
  17. If you're going to spend $90 there's no good reason get a plastic reel. Save a few more shekels for a SLX, Fuego, LFS, or Quantum Accurist PT. All very solid. The Quantum's a big favorite for salt fisherman in my area due to John Skinner. J&H near me sells them by the thousands and rarely gets a defect. Super solid with a fully supported pinion and great braking system.
  18. That reminded me of an ex-girlfriend. She was crazy too, just how I liked them back then.

  20. The main gear is probably keyed to the crankshaft.
  21. Be the squeaky wheel.
  22. Check Lakemonster. Some but not all lakes are listed with up to date satellite thermal imaging. Just search your state then scroll through the list. example: https://lakemonster.com/lake/NY/Lake-Ronkonkoma-3688
