  1. I'm not sure which blend this Silver Creek uses, but it is 1/3 carbon. Daiwa markets their glass as SVF glass, which is probably just marketing jargon for S or E glass I'd opine. I've never heard of it from anybody else, so I'd think it was one of the more common materials with a little marketing behind it.
  2. I didn't get into glass until fairly recent. Outside of that, all of my glass experience was in the 80s. My Finetail Stream Glass, which is UL is even heavier than this Silver Creek by half an ounce even though it's lighter in power. I'm planning to hit the local stream this weekend and familiarize myself. The action feels really good, it has a nice parabolic bend but it does take some effort to get it there. I'd rate it on the faster side of moderate fast even though Daiwa doesn't state its action.
  3. Millionaire found a new friend, a Daiwa Silver Creek Glass Progressive 51LB-G. I can't get over how light the rod is for a glass rod, 2.6 oz. That's the same as my Finetail 5' L which isn't a glass rod. I'm used to glass being heavier.
  4. New knobs for the Millionaire, these Roro knobs are super nice!
  5. I get parts faster from Plat than I do Daiwa themselves, and the shipping isn't too bad either all things considered. Daiwa USA sends stuff Fedex Smartpost and normally takes about 10 to 14 business days. Plat sends DHL and I have them within 5 days. I buy a lot of parts like pawls, clutch springs, suicide screws, gears, driveshafts, inductor springs, handle nuts, and handle nut retainers from them.
  6. I have an AMO in my 6.3 Alphas, my panfish reel. The spool weighs a whooping 4.6g. It's a riot throwing small paddle tails. A 1" Slider grub on a 1g Major Craft Jigpara darter head is absolutely deadly on the gills and perch. I fish that one with 6lb X9 as well but run a 3lb Maxima leader. AMO is very legit, I find their offerings to be of higher quality than Ray's Studio. I can't comment on AMO vs Roro, as I have never owned one (yet). Don't get me wrong, Ray's makes nice spools, just not as nice. Plus I like the AMO Daiwa spools come with a fixed inductor, perfect for short range pitching. The docks along the canals of Lake St Clair are packed with big gills and crappies this time of year, it's a dock fishing machine. It also does well with the trout, but I don't throw that light for those and like the SLP spool better.
  7. You can get the AMO spool from AliExpress, available for the 4000 and 5000 sized Ambassadeurs.
  8. Millionaire CT/SLP SV700S spool is using 8lb Berkley x5. Alphas CT/AMO spool with 6lb Berkley x9 Calcutta Conquest BFS is spooled with Gosen Roots #0.6 PE
  9. JDM anything is cheaper right now due to the exchange rate. It has been very, very good recently. Heck, the '21 Calcutta Conquest 100 is something like $550 here, or ~$400 if you buy the JDM variant. While the exchange rate is good now, at times it wasn't and the prices reflected that accordingly.
  10. Some people have gotten ahold of one already, it will cast 1g no problem providing the rod tip flexes enough for that light of weight. Hobie Wan Kenobi on YouTube is one I can think of off the top of my head.
  11. I'm running #0.8 on my Calcutta Conquest BFS and Alphas CT with the AMO spool. Those are my creek reels. Additionally, I run 4 carrier on those due to the wood and leaves in the water. With my Millionaire CT and other Alphas CT, both of which have the SLP SV700S spool, I'm running #1.0 8 carrier for use on the bigger main streams. Some of the rivers I fish have big browns, coho, Atlantics, and steelhead and the thicker line helps, especially with the cohos and Atlantics that can really peel line when the water temp is in their goldilocks zone. For leader material, I'm usually using 5lb or 8lb Maxima Ultragreen.
  12. SV spools can be easily modified if you're wanting to pick up distance. Swap the inductor spring with a TD-Z Type R+ spring, it's a $3 part. The spring is stiffer so it will take a higher RPM to get the inductor to move into the magnet assembly.
  13. That's the beauty of the Alphas and why it's my favorite reel. You can outfit it any way you want. There's a few people that make spool spacers that I know of. I had a set made to use 30mm spools in my Alphas SV TW but have yet to put them in as I haven't decided on a spool yet.
  14. Like was said above, 33mm is what you need. I think the only ones available these days are the Ray's Studio and SLP Alphas SV105 spool, haven't seen an AMO or Roro in 33mm for a bit now. You may also want to upgrade the drag to Carbontex while you're at it. It's a sweet reel and based on the JDM Daiwa Alphas 103. Here's mine with an orange SLP Works spool, also has a Carbontex drag.
  15. Marketing. The cooler you make it sound, the more people will pay attention.
  16. Here it is everybody https://daiwa.us/products/tatula-sv70 Says it's a Hyperdrive reel, which means it probably has the free floating spool unlike the TW80 which isn't advertised as such.
  17. As long as your hooks are sharp, and they should be regardless, you'll be fine.
  18. Just picked one up in really nice shape. I know these are really good reels but not sure which models it shares parts with and also which spools are compatible. Help a brother out?
  19. Garage sales and family run estate sales will be your friend. Those baits may have dull or rusty hooks, but split rings and replacement hooks are cheap. I had to start from near scratch 20 years ago. A former friend of mine had his boat repossessed, and all of my stuff happened to be on it. He and I fished often, so I didn't think anything of just keeping my gear on his boat. I had 6 rod/reel combos on his boat as well as a couple of tackle boxes full of a wide variety of baits and terminal tackle. All I had left was my steelhead combo and tackle pack which never found their way to the boat because that was for stream fishing. I had no idea until a few months after the fact.
  20. I made a pit stop at Cabela's recently just to browse around. My wife was next door at one of the stores she likes to frequent, needed to kill a little time. I went walking into the Rapala section, the smaller floaters and Countdowns were $11.99 each. Last year they were $7.99. Still expensive either way as the online shops were always cheaper, but holy cow what a jump. Like many here, I have a fair amount of tackle, but if I had to start off fresh again, that would be very painful. The most difficult thing out of all of this. I highly doubt those prices will ever come back down once this inflation is addressed, even if it were solved in the near term. If the manufacturers continue to see respectable sales numbers they'll just keep the new pricing model. Kind of like 15-ish years ago when almost every online shop offered free UPS/FedEx shipping on just about everything. Once fuel prices ran away, they started charging for shipping to minimize losses. Those shipping charges never went away once fuel became cheaper, and here we are.
  21. Took me a week to get the hang of it. That was 30 years ago, still not a master lol.
  22. For those species and something that won't break the bank, look into the 4'6" to 5'6" Okuma Celilo. I don't think there's a better ultralight rod for less than $30.
  23. At least you don't have ice on the water lol
  24. It kinda comes with the territory that is BFS. The first thing most people look at when it comes to BFS are higher cost JDM reels, so they assume it's some kind of elitist venture. It doesn't have to be, lots of cheaper reels as well as spools for existing reels are available that can cost considerably less than a JDM BFS reel itself. It's simply another way to catch a fish, that's all. Nothing more, nothing less. Fishing is all about having fun, and BFS is a rather new and exciting method of fishing.
