All Fishing Major Brands Huge Price Bump

Featured Replies

Guys I can believe the price increasing on rods and reels with major brands like Shimano/gloomise Daiwa and Abu. The Conquest rods have $40 price bump Megabass add $50 on Lavante and Orochi and the Shimano reels $20 and so on.

This day is one of those days that I am glad I have almost everything I need in my arsenal for any fishing I do. :)

  • Highest inflation in 40 years will do that.    Anyone remember 10% and higher interest rates on mortgages?

  • I still believe fishing is one of the least expensive hobbies.  A lot of us make it expensive, but it doesn't need to be.

  • I have been finding great deals on older rods that are still amazingly light and sensitive that would compare with $300 rods today. Just found my second Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth 6'10 M-F rod for

Ya - Pflueger reels went up $10 to $20.

It's getting so a guy can't afford to upgrade anymore.

Consumer Price Index out yesterday. Inflation is up 7.5% over this time last year.

I was told by one of my suppliers to expect between a 10% and 100% price increase on Fuji products, effective March 1.

I'm with you, I've got more rods, reels, hard baits, soft baits and terminal tackle then I'll ever use. Other than the 40% increase in fuel prices, this won't effect me much as far as fishing is concerned.

And my SS payments only went up 5%

And they wonder why retirees end up needing assistance.

I was hoping to upgrade a couple casting rods and a couple spinning reels this coming fall...but between utility, gas and food going up faster than my 'income'...oh well...maybe what I got is good enough.

Well, I took a hit today.

Ordered a 6'10 med XF rod early in the week and today I received a 7'2 MH. ?

Returned it and now that rod jumped 15%.

Stubborn me is taking a trip to BPS in the morning and don't care how much it cost in gas, I'm getting a 6'10 med XF rod. Lol

I'm glad I don't need anything. All my rods/reels are good to go. Just waiting on warming weather...

Double digit inflation, oil embargo, stagflation, yeah, lived through that,

I read that if you calculate inflation now the same way they calculated it in the 80’s it’s actually worse than it was then, bringing it closer to the highest inflation in 70 years.

Some of the price increases are going to hurt companies. Who would buy a Revo X for $120?! An SLX or a Speed Spool LFS are still $20 less! I think more people will start looking to the JDM market for reels.

I have been finding great deals on older rods that are still amazingly light and sensitive that would compare with $300 rods today. Just found my second Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth 6'10 M-F rod for $70 Canadian. Way better value in my book.

Really high inflation makes for interesting times. I remember January 1980. I got a conventional 30-year mortgage with 26% down. I was so happy that I got my first house before the rates went up. My mortgage was only 12.75%.

Then they shot up to 17%-18%.

Our Medicare premiums went up so far this year that the 5.9% COL increase resulted in a monthly loss for each of us. Oh well. We'll have to do our part to keep the economy running anyway. My wife started today. Third grandchild on the way.  :)

Yes, but that will still be a tiny portion of the market.

I was an SLX, Speed spool kinda guy well before the first hint of inflation.

This is not exactly shocking. I got 2 blocks of cream cheese, a bag of Fritos and a loaf of bread for $15.01 this evening. This is where we are in America.

Mine too, thankfully I've got a decent pension too.

Very true. Most people probably won’t even be aware that prices went up.

At this point I’d be happy to have gas under $3/gal and milk under $4/gal

Lucky dog - medical bills ate up the wife's and my 401Ks...all we got is SS.

Luckily I am in the want, not need stage of rod and reel purchasing.

Sure I want new rods and reels. Do I need them, nope my arsenal is pretty full.

Late last fall I decided I wanted to get into fly fishing.  One of the rods I really wanted to get was the Sage Foundation, but I figured I'd wait until sometime this year to buy one.  Two places were selling at MSRP while everyone else was asking an extra $50 more.  About a month later I decided the heck with it.  I wasn't going to wait.  I wanted the rod NOW.

Didn't happen.  When I went Online to order MSRP had gone from $325 to $425.  I could see a $50 increase, but a $100 increase is a bit much.  Sage lost a customer.  For the best, tho, as I don't really need the rod, and now I have several hundred more in my bank account than I would have had because you need more than just the rod.  Fly lines aren't cheap.  Another reel would have needed to be purchased.  Now that I think about it, I should write Sage a thank you letter.  :D

I'll replace used/lost lures and they'll still get me when I buy line but I'm done buying anything else for a while. Gas & oil prices are crazy.
