For those that fish everyday...How happy are you? :)
Do most of you that fish every day, do y’all live on a lake? How many retired to on the water, and if so, is it all you imagined it would be? Just curious if living on a lake, the novelty “wears off” as mentioned before about ponds or it’s as great as it seems. Thanks

What’s your favorite squarebill rod?
Can you tell me why you like this? I haven’t been able to find one at a store to look at. I love my other mb rod... mind sharing how these rods differ? If you have three money rods for squarebill, what else is in your collection?!? thanks everyone for your thoughts! So many to choose from

Frog rods: long or short?
This is what i am going with as well. Getting ready to order one. I am mostly throwing into wooded cover and need more precision, and so I’m hoping the shorter rod will help. Also it will make it easier to walk the dog. And as an added bonus, I can use it for skipping jigs. Guess we will see

For those that fish everyday...How happy are you? :)
Thank you all for your time and thoughts. Interesting line and great response. I have often dreamed of having a pond on our property...so it's interesting that you say the novelty wears off...that had never occurred to me but I bet it's true. Here's another question to everyone. In your years of fishing, what's brought you the most joy? Has it been being able to go out daily now that you are retired, going fishing with kids/g-kids, tournaments...no wrong answer. Just curious what everyone feels was their most joyous/fulfilling times when they look back over the years.

For those that fish everyday...How happy are you? :)
I'm not sure which thread this should be in...but just wanted to get your deep thoughts. I am currently a middle aged working dad who longs for quiet, peaceful days on the water. But unfortunately those don't happen too often. I often find myself looking forward to retirement and being able to fish alot more. But it got me thinking that will I be happy and satisfied when I get to fish everyday. I know there are lots of other factors that go into this (family/relationships, spiritual fulfillment, financial peace...) but just looking at the fishing aspect of it, at what point have you received the most fun out of fishing? Is it fishing every day, fishing tournaments, fishing random weekends when you were working...? Just curious how it feels when you are retired and get to fish alot more. I assume it's heaven on earth And please don't make this too serious and negative...I'm not looking for life lessons. I treasure the days I have right now with my kids and love the stage of life I am at...but I still wish I could fish a little more Tight Lines

What’s your favorite squarebill rod?
That's funny you say that...I just now inquired about the availability of that exact rod at a store. Seems like a nice rod for light baits and good action as well. Mind if I ask why you would prefer the 6'10" (if it had the longer cork)? thanks Any idea how the 703 compares with the 705cb glass? I haven't had a chance to try the 703...but I bet it would be a great rod!

What’s your favorite squarebill rod?
Looking for suggestions on a good squarebill rod. I have the Dobyns champion 705 glass which I love and use for mid cranking. Just looking to see what else is out there for lighter squarebills (eg lc 1.5). Maybe st croix, megabass, expride... not looking for you to pick one out for me...just wondering what your favorite is. thanks

What’s your go to lure for bed/spring fishing first thing in the morning?
Come on...seriously...you didn't give us the brand and color I agree...I go nowhere without coffee first

Can you recommend a deep crank reel?
Have you used that reel (Diana)? I was told it would be too slow and would have a hard time catching up to a fish if it swims toward you.

Can you recommend a deep crank reel?
I am looking for a 5:1-6:1 reel and can’t seem to find many. Can you offer any ideas? I would love to go with the deal on tackle trap but heard 4.9:1 is a little too slow. I am looking to try to keep it under $300 but can go higher if roi is worth it. Thanks for your help!

What’s your go to lure for bed/spring fishing first thing in the morning?
I typically start with topwater but during spawn, I’m wondering if swimbait or finesse is better to start with.

Gear Ratio For Deep Diving Crankbaits - 6:4:1 The New Standard ?
Interesting...last night I heard a video where J. Wheeler saying he was using a 5:1 when he caught all his bass in this last tournament on Lake Eufaula the other day

Gear Ratio For Deep Diving Crankbaits - 6:4:1 The New Standard ?
Awesome! Thanks guys. I guess I just didn't want to miss out on that reel if it was a crazy good deal. It's a japanese market only reel...so pretty rare to see it offered in the states. I don't have much experience with daiwa so wasn't sure.

Gear Ratio For Deep Diving Crankbaits - 6:4:1 The New Standard ?
Can I get your advice? Most of my reels are shimano slx dc 7:1. I was looking to get another for a skipping rod, but maybe I'll take the one off of my deep crank and replace that with an actual deep crank reel. So tt has a deal on these reels Daiwa Catalina TW 100PL-RM - LEFT 4.9:1 for around $160 (msrp $350) or I could go with another Shimano slx dc (or curado dc) at 6:2:1. Which would you go with? I'm more use to DC reels but this daiwa seems to be setup for deep crank. thanks

Gear Ratio For Deep Diving Crankbaits - 6:4:1 The New Standard ?
Is there a too low ratio? eg 4:9:1... Trying to figure out if there's a sweet spot. I know it also depends on brand and IPT is more important

Gear Ratio For Deep Diving Crankbaits - 6:4:1 The New Standard ?
Just curious if everyone is still using lower ratios to crank with. I saw a deep cranking video a couple months ago and they used 7:1 for even 10xd...said it helps with the start/stop action, as well as more action and control. I was looking at getting a 4:9:1 until I saw that video...what are your thoughts?

Which reel do you prefer...regular or DC?
What are the differences performance wise between a. high end reel and a $150 reel eg SLX? Is it just the better feel or is there quite a bit difference in the actual performance?
-
Which reel do you prefer...regular or DC?
Haha I do have one of each. Actually a few of each. Bit I don’t have any high end reels like a bantam or steel...trying to decide how they compare to a dc. I would love to buy a hi-end reel, but not at the expense of getting more backlash. Is the braking system on high-end reels better than, say an SLX non-DC version, or are they a lot better? Because if the characteristics are similar then I’ll probably stick with the DC. But if they are easier to dial-in...
-
Which reel do you prefer...regular or DC?
Just curious which type of reel you prefer and why? I have been really impressed with the dc technology, but I know there are a lot out there that prefer a really high end reel with a good braking system (eg bantam...). Do you prefer the newer tech of the dc, or the tight tolerances of a high end reel with a traditional braking system?

Recommendations for battery setup...running two helix 7, power poles...
Sounds good. Any other recommendations on agm deep cycle batteries? I saw a few reviews lately on Optima blue top saying that they aren't what they use to be since they got bought out. Anyone use Northstar?
