  1. What are your top 3 things you use it for? thanks
  2. Yeh I guess that was a dumb question for the general group. I know there’s a vast array of opinions on this topic. I like to carry several rods so I don’t have to take the time to tie on something different (I usually don’t have more than a few hours to fish). So I was trying to reduce the number of rods I carry and starts combining a few of the techniques I don’t use much. So thinking about trying to have one rod that can do Alabama and flipping/pitchin light cover. And then also one that can do lipless/buzz bait and chatterbait. Thinking maybe a 7’5”-7’8” MH/H moderate/reg for the Alabama/fp rod and a 7’1-7’3MH Moderate Fast for the buzz/chatterbait. Thoughts?
  3. Which rods do you have that you use for two or more techniques?
  4. Ha no worries! And I misread your post and thought you said you had all Tranx 200s…eyes getting lazy! Thank you for the insight! I’ll look at that review!
  5. Just curious what you all use for deep diving crank baits. Also include gear ratio
  6. I’m sorry. I wasn’t questioning you. I’m literally just wondering why you like it for cranking?
  7. Im a little confused. Some say that the 200 is just a curado with a coating on it which makes it better for salt and fresh. But seems like it’s a staple cranking reel…is there a difference in the cranking system or something?
  8. I agree. But what are you looking for to stop and use ffs? Just like to hear other’s process.
  9. Thank you! Yes this seems to be the right way to go about it... I guess I just didn't know if bait (shad) act differently in winter than other seasons. I was on my boat the other day and definitely didn't see near as much as I did in the Fall.
  10. Thank you! So the main way they differ from normal reels is the torque they can provide? I assume they also have a slightly larger handle? What size do you recommend? (150, 200 or 300)
  11. Thank you! Can you share your process of finding the bait?
  12. I have watched several ”instructors” online lately and they seem to have different ways of going about finding fish. Just curious what you all do in the winter. I guess I’m mainly speaking to off shore guys. I have heard a couple say they go to main structure locations (main lake points, channel bends…) and look on ff for schools of bait. Then I heard another say they go to same locations and use 2D to look for bass sitting on the bottom. And then finally, I heard others that go around looking for cover and then only fish those. I know there’s always different ways of going about things…but just curious what you do. I have been looking for balls of baitfish but just don’t see them like in the fall so wondering if I’m looking for the wrong thing. Thanks!
  13. Looking to possibly replace my current center console bay boat. Heard good things about the skeeter but just haven’t ran in to anyone that actually owns one or has been around one. Or if anyone has any other recommendations on a boat that can do bass, family and inter-coastal fishing….would love to hear. Thanks!
  14. Been thinking about picking one of these up for cranking. Haven’t ever had a chance to use one…but I hear good things. Can anyone share their feedback? Would be using it for mid to deep crank. Thanks
  15. Come on man…can we just be adults and move on? I appreciate all the responses. Just want everyone to respect everyone and no need for condescending comments. If you actually read the thread, I posted a secondary question that said “ i want to find a fb jig rod for 5/8 jig with trailer up to 3/4oz jig with trailer (so prob 3/4oz-1oz total). What would your recommendation be? ”. So with the weight of the jig+trailer would be 3/4-1oz+). So no, one rod probably isn’t covering from 3/8-1.5oz. And if you have one that does, then that’s great! I’m looking for probably two jig rods…one for <3/8-5/8 and then another for 5/8jig plus trailer up to 1oz plus trailer. I never bashed any comments that didn’t have ultra high end rods but yes I did respond more to the nrx and steez comments. I love high end stuff…cars, fishing…just what I like. I have found that quality, precision and customer service is typically at that price point. Yes there can be great, and maybe even better, rods for less…but I just tend to be drawn to rods that have a long history of producing quality sticks. but seriously though…can we just stick to talking about jig rods and nothing else. Otherwise mods can just lock it up. Thanks to everyone who has contributed
  16. Sounds like the new rods in the destroyer line of megabass p5 are looking to compete with high end bottom contact rod companies…. Heard good things about the new fmj and Bmg rods
  17. Wow! You might be one of the most experienced experts on tying the fg! what tips do you have? what's the most important part? thanks
  18. Sorry, I meant using 45lb braid to 8-12lb fluoro
  19. Have you used similar size lines at the same time? I have tied the double uni tones of times and never had an issue till last night. But I can’t remember if I’ve tried that exact scenario. And I don’t think I mentioned, but when I switched to 12lb, I used sunline assassin…still same result. -lots of lubrication used -lightly tightened knots and slid down then tightened everything-broke -tightened knots pretty tight before cinching down and still also broke
  20. No I had tons of lubricant on there ha. But yeh the diameters were very different and I think it just cut through. I was being very gentle when cinching it down. I tried lots of variations with same result. And then first try with mono it worked. I‘lol give the allbright and Alberto a try again. I mainly use the fg knot and like it, but sometimes I’m in a hurry or just not feeling it and want something else to go to
  21. Hey quick question for you knot guys. Last night I was rigging up a couple rods and decided to put some light fc on a rod. I am pretty sure it’s 40lb pp braid and i was putting 8lb tatsu on there. I was in a little bit of a hurry so just did the double uni. When I went to cinch it down, it broke. It didn’t slip through…it just broke with not very much force applied. So did it again and got the same result. Then I bumped up to 12lb fc and same results happened (twice). By then inwas really annoyed and tired, so just threw on some 12lb mono and it worked perfectly. Was the braid cutting it??
  22. I was looking at this steez 7'2H...you still really happy with it? Have you thrown jigs on the upper end of its range (eg 3/4-1.5oz)? I have heard that steez did a really great job with these latest ags rods. Thanks
  23. Cool thanks! Let us know how that kistler compares with the tatula. Also, what jig rod differences do you look for when comparing how they will handle with fishing jigs in grass vs rock/clay?
  24. Appreciate that @RDB. You said it better than I did. I think if I stick with the NRX line, the 895c is where I should be looking. The 894 seems like it might have a little too much overlap with the 873 that I already have. And the 895 would cover that range up to 1oz and maybe a little more. I am curious about the new mb destroyer usa p5 line coming out soon that has the bmg and fmj...I've heard these are to compete with nrx jwr's. Again, I know that there are a ton of great football jig rods out there! And I'm sure most of them can provide the same level as the nrx line. I love hearing others thoughts on rods...it's fun to me to do a lot of research and study to find that perfect rod (to me) for a specific technique. Thank you all for your thoughts and feedback I have yet to try a kistler! But my local tackleshop owner raves about them. I'll have to keep my eye out for a good sale. Do you prefer a 7' for your jig rod?
