  1. Yes Tom...I (and I'm sure others on here) weigh their jigs...along with trailers as well. And regarding your comment "this thread is more about price point"... I haven't mentioned price once...but I have tried a ton of rods and have found that I appreciate the weight, build quality, warranty, and "sensitivity" the NRX line of rods provide. No I'm not saying they are the absolute best, and that's why I asked if anyone else has another suggestion. I would love to try all kinds of rods, but I can only buy soo much till I get kicked out on the curb by my wife. Could be just me, but some of your comments lately seem to have a condescending tone. Others are allowed to have opinions that differ from yours. And just because you are able to use one rod for 3/8-1.5oz fb jigs, doesn't mean it's "insane" to follow the manufacture recommendations on a lure rating and use two (or more for that matter) fb jig rods. I know you have a ton of knowledge but try to have some patience and respect for others. We are not all imbeciles...just might have different ways of going about things.
  2. Thanks everyone. Got mono spooled up…came down to not having to mess with leader lines for right now. We fish some very clear water so I would rather not have to think about line at this point. Plus…isnt it kind of a rite of passage as an angler to start out with mono? Ha. I’m sure it will be just fine…and who knows…may end up switching to braid. But for now just going to keep it simple with mono. Thank you everyone for the help!
  3. Can you expound? What other rods have you used? What size jigs do you use? Thanks
  4. No that’s exactly the feedback I wanted! I appreciate it! Not many have the 895 so it’s good to get good feedback. I think this year I’m going to be throwing more 3/4-1.5oz to keep it on the bottom when fishing deep…so I think I will go with the 895c. One thing I need to double check is I have a steez 7’4xh (older model) and haven’t tried it with heavier weight. I use it mainly for flipping heavy. I’ve thrown a 1/2oz jig before and wasn’t impressed with the sensitivity. But maybe I’ll try it with a 1oz before I make a final decision.
  5. What’s the heaviest you use with your 904? (Including trailer)
  6. Megabass 110+1 three weeks ago…6.37lbs off bluff wall
  7. That's what I was planning. But just thought about one con ...do I use a leader or just go straight braid? I fish mostly braid to leader or fc...and don't mind tying an fg knot...but obviously I'm not going to be teaching him that anytime soon. So if I do go braid...should I tie a leader for him each time...or just go straight braid?
  8. wow haven't heard that in awhile lol. Tom..you never fail to make it interesting lol. I have had a couple tatulas and just haven't been that impressed. Trying to stick with NRX for my bottom contact rods. Unless someone makes a strong argument for another bc rod. Thanks for the feedback!
  9. Got my 10 year old his first reel...tatula 103 sv. Putting it on a 6'6 expride M. Man...what I would have given to have that setup when I was a kid ha. Anyway, looking to put some line on it. Just curious what you guys think. I know the initial thought is big game mono...bc it's cheap. But I have tons of braid around. So do you think a thicker braid (eg 50lb) might be easier to learn on or stick with mono? This rod will be used for all kinds of presentations since it will be his only bc. Thanks
  10. Thank you!! Have you ever used an 894? Also, when using the 895, does it still handle fb jigs on the lighter side ((eg 1/2 ounce)? I think 873 cover 3/8 up to 1/2. Also, I have heard that the 895 is really tip heavy. I’m not one that’s really stuck on balance but is it noticeable? Thanks again!
  11. I’ve heard good things about the legend elite. Have you had a chance to compare their sensitivity next to an nrx?
  12. Ok...so back again. Love my 873...but i want to find a fb jig rod for 5/8 jig with trailer up to 3/4oz jig with trailer (so prob 3/4oz-1oz total). What would your recommendation be? I might even throw a 1oz fb jig occasionally. Should I go 894 or 895c? Or is there another rod that you would pick (904c, steez bc2...). Thanks and happy new year!
  13. Might want to look at the IMX 906c cbr...an amazing mid-depth cranking rod. I have the dobyns 705cb and while it's a great rod, I prefer the IMX. Just a thought
  14. cool thanks. what would your first choice be for a 1.5? thanks
  15. Ok thank you all! I think I've decided I'm going to pick up the 843c cbr imx pro and then also pick up the 842c nrx down the road. Seems like the 842 is just a rod that everyone loves. I've seen a lot of great posts about it
  16. Yes I'm thinking the 842 might be a little too soft for squarebills. I'm really trying to find the best squarebill rod gloomis makes. I know personal preference plays a key role but just trying to narrow it down. Kind of surprised there's no cbr versions in the glx lineup. what do you use as your squarebill rod?
  17. Mind sharing why? Have you tried the 843? What do you use the 842 for? Thanks
  18. For those who have used these rods...which would you prefer for squarebills? I will probably use the rod for other techniques (small jighead/megabass spark shad) but mainly this will be my squarebill rod. Thanks
  19. Ha...I'm sure in many eyes I've sold lots of great rods. But I didn't like it...and I love the rod I replaced it with. To each their own... Thank you for your feedback! Do you fish in places where you only carry a few rods, or do you just love having the mbr rods and have them mixed in with other rods?
  20. Ok great thanks. So your preferred chatterbait rod is the 844mbr?
  21. Thanks! Yeh I sold my legend glass…loved the action but just couldn’t get past the weight and thickness. I guess I’m just trying to figure out if there’s any technique that the MBR does better than either a CBR or a JWR could do. I’m not looking for a do-all rod…I’m looking to find the best rod for specific techniques
  22. Anyone have experience with both of these in the IMX or NRX line? (Or any gloomis line for that matter). I assume the MBR is just in between CBR and JWR but just not sure. Is the mbr real versatile, so if you are just going to carry one rod. but not great at any single technique. I carry lots of rods so I wonder ifm using treble hooks…just better to go with CBR. Thanks
