Over thinking
I'm sure everyone thinks, after a "bad" day what could I have done differently to put fish in the boat. I've been fishing several different small lakes, I haven't fished before, this week, in central FL, and have caught fish at each one. After throwing big fish baits for naught I've gone to the same stuff I've used in the past to catch a fish. Not thinking just doing what I've always done.

What are your fishing goals for 2019?
Catch a Guadalupe and a Peacock Bass. Pretty sure on the Peacock but not on the Guadalupe. It's a long way to go for me.

Hook 4 HELP!
I did the same thing on my unit a couple of months ago; called Lowrance and was told they're gone forever. Had to load my backup but lost the recent entries. Backups are mandatory and if they're updated they're even better.

What first bass boat should I buy?
That would be a fine boat, but be sure to get the engine with the most power they offer. I have a friend with that boat with a 50 and it's not enough for him.

Spinning rod reel seat
Does anyone have a picture of an uplocking aero seat? Thanks.

First fish new, to me, boat.
Blew up my old boat last month and bought a tin boat. Rewired, cleaned, changed the impeller, spark plugs and lower unit oil. Took it to the lake, Lanier, this afternoon where my buddy was fishing just to have some help if needed. Launched, parked the truck and the boat was running on 3 cylinders, it has 4. It planed @ 18 mph on 3 and I went fishing. Saw a bunch of fish on the screen and dropped a spoon down for naught. I threw a worm @ a marker pole and caught my first bass, 11" spot, on my new boat. I ended up with 6 spots and 2 LM, all on worms with the largest 2-4. On the way back in the boat suddenly ran on all 4 and the GPS said over 30 mph. It's a 16' Grumman Renegade with a Merc 45. Loading the boat it started missing a cylinder again and stalled several times getting loaded. At least it doesn't leak.

How do I remove a hook a bass has swallowed?
All of my fishing partners give me their fish for hook removal, if they're gut hooked, and here's how. I have a strong pair of hemostats with me and go through the gills, turn the hook and pop it out then reach down through the mouth and remove. I usually pinch the barbs down.

BigAngus, Florida is the place.- on board battery charger with regular battery charger?
I keep a couple of Shumacher chargers in my live well.- Military service
- Georgia
Alex from GA here. I've been fishing for a long time, over 70 years, and don't get skunked very often. My neighbor took me fishing on the Santa Monica pier in the mid 40s and I've been hooked ever since. In CA, where I used to live, I mostly saltwater fished. In my war years I was stationed in MT and trout fished then came back to CA and saltwater fished mostly until we moved to GA in '99 where I bass fish several times a week. We live near Lake Lanier where I keep a small bass boat in a dock all summer. On weekends I'm usually on the N GA rivers in a kayak fishing for shoal and Chattahoochee bass. In GA the DNR has a program called a "bass slam" where if you catch 5 of the 10 species of black bass in GA you get a certificate and a couple of tickets to the Go Fish Center in Perry, GA. I've joined that the past couple of years. Our winter is spent in a small town, Hernando, in central FL where I also fish several times a week, usually for bass, in the local rivers and lakes there. I go to the gulf a few times also usually with a local friend that guides me. Our daughter lives near Beaver Lake AR where I've fished and I've waded streams in KY last summer for smallmouth. That's all folks.- Kayak Modifications
Mine came with rod holders and a place for my ice chest. I don't use the rod holders. I usually only carry one rod and my tackle is in my PFD. But then I only fish rivers. The more you carry the more you'll have to lug back to the truck when you're done and sometimes back to the truck is up a really big hill.- Help with Rod butt
If your repair fails just cut the rest of the EVA off and install another piece. I think you'll succeed though.- Spinning rod reel seat
- Interested in First (maybe a second) Custom Rod
Agree with the specific application. I needed a rod for kayak fishing in small rivers for shooting under overhanging trees plus super sensitivity. In the past 10 years I built 5 rods for that purpose and bought a couple more. Last year I think I may have finally succeeded.- Casting Skipping Rod - Blank suggestion (6'3 or shorter)
I'm in the minority in liking shorter rods for worming. I've been using an MHX shooter blank for about a year for finesse worms and really like it. Rainshadow has a walleye blank that is perfect for dock shooting; IMMWS62MXF.- Labeling Your Fishing Rods/Reels With Line Size?
I just keep the proper lure tied on when I respool.- finesse cranking line set-up for spinning gear....straight fluorocarbon, braid to floro, braid to mono
If you're using a soft rod straight braid or braid with a leader. If the rod is stiffer mono is what I use.- What are your cold water lures?
My go to bait is the jigging spoon in fall and winter. I even found a 24' hole in FL one winter and jigged up a bunch of trout and whiting with the spoon.- Keeping hands warm - ideas?
My kids bought me a Gerbing heated vest several years ago. I don't live in the frozen north but works in N GA in 20*. I wear neoprene gloves with the thumb and forefinger having tabs that fold down. I also carry a Heater Buddy in the boat if I fish in the winter.- How do I find fish in a new creek?
1/8 oz spinnerbait is what I use in really brown water.- Wind Knots driving me crazy
Use an FG knot for the leader. If that fails use mono.- Show off your Stuff
- Reel help.
Thanks all. A gentleman helped me with it. FYI the left side plate comes off by pushing a button on the front of the plate and rotating it, the spool comes out and there's a screw behind the spool that holds the right side on after removing the 2 screws, handle and drag star. - Bummer
