  1. Hi Guys, I ended up purchasing a LCX-27C. This has two card slots. I have been reading that lowrance card readers are picky and only like sandisk sd cards? Can you guys let me know if this is true and if anyone has been able to get another brand to work? Do you have to use a lowrance card reader to get the data off the card and on to your computer. I am a little confused with how you move your data back and forth. Seems like Lowrance is making this more complicated than it needs to be. Thanks, Zach
  2. Hi Guys, I currently have a Lowrance LMS-350A GPS graph. First question is if I get new Lowrance GPS unit made from 07-present will I need a different GPS puck? The puck I have I believe is the orginal from 2001 timeframe. Next thing is I want to buy a new graph by lowrance that has an SD card slot and GPS. I want this unit to be atleast 5" screen. Color is optional. Can you guys make some recomendations? Are the HDS units worth the money? I only bass fish lakes and reservoirs that are no more than 50-60 feet deep. I know that a lot of the 2008-07 model units are on clearance to make way for the HDS graphs. Overall I am just looking for a deal on a graph with the above mentioned options. All opinions and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Zach
  3. I would agree that drop shot is a great way to get large smallies in deep water! Tube or Roboworm.
  4. Wierdest thing for me would have to be a rock. I have reeled up multiple 3 to 4 lb rocks. i have also caught another fish rod and reel before but it was old and worthless.
  5. Nice fish! what were they biting on?
  6. I caught a smallie this last weekend that was 2lbs and it hit the torpedo on a steady retrieve. The water was only 55 degree's....Just goes to show you can catch top water fish even when the water is cold!
  7. I have not used them here in Idaho, but I have been told they work well on a drop shot.
  8. Those are some nice fish.....That 7lb smallie is a DONKEY!
  9. Here in idaho i use plastic baits when the perch bite is on. I will drop shot right in the middle of a school of perch and the bass that are cruising think its a dying perch and they tag it. I also use green pumpkin tubes carolina rigged. Perch colored wiggle warts are also a great way to catch some donkey brown fish!!!
  10. Largemouth will be landed first. They give a couple tugs and come to the boat. A smallie will fight until you net it.
  11. That would be cool WB, I will be down in SD Jul 16th-23rd. I plan on hitting atleast one lake or reservoir while I am down there.
  12. Another tip with Smallies and Crawfish is when the wind is blowing steady around 10-15 the crawfish will be washed out from under the rocks and boulders along the bank because they can't hold there own. The smallies are triggered by the wind and will move right up on the bank and the feeding frenzy begins!
  13. Hi Guys, Thanks for the lake tips. I figure that in July the fish will be holding deeper and I would probably need to be drop shoting or using jigs for the fish. I will look into the lakes you guys have mentioned. I will have a rental car, so I may end up going to the lakes mentioned.
  14. Hi All, I am going to be traveling down to San Diego Mid July for a vacation. I used to live there when I was in high school and only went fishing once which I could kick myself for. I am familiar with Lake Poway and Lake Miramar. I will be there walking the bank or renting a boat. I just wanted to know what the best places to fish are in San Diego for my situation and what techniques I should be using that time of year. Maybe some plastic colors that work well also. Thanks Zach
  15. I live in Boise and fish the local tournaments around here. My buddy jetsprint2 is also from Boise. We are around, few and far between though.
  16. What's Crazy, is that the old record was caught by the same guy and it was a pound lighter. Another fish was caught that was in between the old and the new record by another person just recently and all three were caught out of the same reservoir. Dworshak reservoir in centeral idaho. Its barely fished and they feed on koakanee trout. I have a tournament there this year! 8-)
  17. This is the new Idaho state Record caught last year. 9.72lbs. What a monster.
  18. Hi All, Just wanted to know if anyone has bought a Shimano Curado from baitnhook.com and submitted the curado rebate and received it? The reels are cheap on this website, but I dont want to buy and not get the rebate. Buying at MSRP is not required to get the rebate.
  19. Great information guys. Thanks for the tips.
  20. I hunted around and really didnt find any instructions on how to spoon fish. I got lots of recommendations on what spoons to use, but not how to use them. I will be fishing in spring time in steep reservoirs with lots of ledges and gravel area's in 40-45 degree water. I just wanted to know some technique. I have heard of letting them go to the bottom and jigging them off the bottom etc. but want so good proven technique. This will be exclusively for smallmouth. Also is there any spoons that are best for smallmouth only?
  21. I agree with Marv, use jigs and trailers. If you fish plastic, throw it out and dont move it or just barely drag it on the bottom. If you were in 30-40 degree water you would not want to move either! ;o)
  22. If you have crawdad's in the river you can't go wrong with crawdad imatation plastics. Go to your local bass shop and you will find tons of them. Most are used for trailers, but you can use them all by them selves with a bullet weight texas, carolina, or use a jig head. My favorite bait in rivers are tubes in green pumpkin or smoke colors. They look natural like crawdads and move like them. I would use foot ball head jigs and put the tube on them. You will lose baits, but you will catch a lot too. Spider jigs are also great lures in natural colors.
  23. I have fished at night for smallies and it seems that they shut off after it starts to cool off. I have been luck about the first two hours of dark.
  24. Up here in idaho it is harder to come by largemouth. Average winning bag is 12lbs around here because the smallies just are not like back east. My biggest bag is only 9.63 I have had multiple bags in the 9lb range, but just have not been able to break into the double digits. Each time i have been in the 9's i have taken top 5 to give you guys a prespective.
  25. Most any jig will do for smallies, the main thing i like to do is keep the profile down. I dont like a huge trailer because a smallie is more apt to short strike and miss your hook. I have had great luck on anything earth tone and my size of choice is 3/8 oz skinny bear jigs.
