Braid and cranks
I fish for fun. I like fishing and catching bass. For me, Braid increases my ENJOYMENT of fishing. Thats why I use it. It handles better and causes less nesting for me. I don't fish tournaments, and I don't hunt for double digit size bass. I just like to fish. Stick with braid if you like it. I do and I may have lost one or two due to puling a treble hook out of the mouth, but hey if I landed every fish that bit, there would be less enjoyment of fishing. Braid isn't going to impact your cranks unless you let it become and issue and creating a problem where there wasnt one in the first place. Have fun and let the pro's argue about the rest!

Should I buy it?
Who are you telling? You don't know the half of it. OMG...you would have thought that I was sending my brother to his grave. I get a text message from my sister last night that says..."nice sending your brother to meet a guy at a gas station off the interstate to serve your own self interests." That's the first and last time I ever ask anyone in my family for help buying fishing equipment. Holy S! My family is crazy. Anyway, I got the rod...everything went off without a hitch...it's in perfect condition...brand spanking new. Was it worth it? HELL NO! Seriously you wouldn't believe the mess it caused. Next time I'll pay the guy the 30 bucks he's asking for to have it shipped. Glad it worked out for you. Buy it off you for 200? Ill meet you in the alley behind the abandoned shack LOL J/K

Revo STX Micro-click cast control?
Hey all, I was able to purchase a new Revo STX for 90$. So I was pretty happy. But it was missing the cast control knob and micro-click parts. The bearings were still there though so I went for the purchase. I took the cast control knob and disc from my Revo S. Question is: Is the micro click cast control system worth the extra 20$ to replace it? Im leaning towards replacing it because that way I can let someone else use my revo S. Anyone share some thoughts on it? I never tried the micro click system before. Is it only a bell and whistle? Thanks in advance! Vic

Should I buy it?
If a deal is "too good to be true"... But there are the occasional exceptions! Just make sure it looks legit. Its worse that you arent the one inspecting it. Vic

BIG PROBLEM!!!! Asian jumping carp!!! HELP!!!!!
More than 2 words: The carp will change the ecosystem. Bass will eventually not be able to sustain their numbers. I dont think bass will be erradicated, but they will be smaller and fewer. But in systems where the carp already are, there isnt much you can do about it. Like the snakehead, they populate fast, grow fast, and eat a ALOT. Personally I like carp fishing and think its underrated. But its still no bass though. There have been little successful cases of ridding an invasive species from an ecosystem. Vic

Best options for Orlando area bassing?
Central Florida has just about a fishable body of water every mile or so. Most hold bass in it. When I drive arround, I sometimes stop off at a "bassy" retention pond and toss out a few. Usually 2-3 pounders out of here. So when you come visit, you have a few options. 1) you can pole arround and fish a few bodies of water/lakes from the shore 2) you can hire a guide to take you out, or 3) you can go to some of the foshing peirs over lakes, or 4) you can rent your own boat for 15$ at Turkey lake. I have been to Turkey Lake many times and have cought some 6-8 pound bass and numerous 3-5's. Lots of Crappie and Blue gills also. You have to release the bass but can keep your bag limit of panfish. You rent the boat from 7am-11am and it comes with a trolling motor and a fishfinder. Its a nice deal. The number is 407-299-1248 if you want more info and reserve when it comes closer to the time of your trip. Being a local and without a boat, I like this option and just going to local lakes the best. Vic

Dick's Sporting Goods....
Its good that they were cool and gave you that discount. If they were jerks about it, you could always just take your reciept and return the whole setup. Then purchase it again with the 25$ card. That "doesnt apply to prior purchases" is just a technicality. And technically you can get arround it if you really wanted to.

Orlando: Turkey Lake in the Winter- Any Tips?
Hey all, A friend and I are going to be fishing Turkey Lake right after Christmas. I never bass fished Turkey lake this time of year. I dont know what the water temps will be. But anyone have any tips for this time of year? I usually hit this place with topwaters in the morning and senkos later on. I am thinking about hitting the riprap by the highways since it should be a little warmer there in the winter with a suspending jerkbait. Any one have recommendations? Thanks all! Vic

Carp HoneyHole Raided By Bucket Brigade
Carp grow REAAALY fast. Once those people fish out all the larger carp, they will leave. Then wait about a month or two and you will have a whole new group of larger carp to catch. They grow and spawn FAST. Thats why they are so invasive in some bodies of water. If its not illegal, I would wait these guys out. They will leave once all the carp are gone. Then the carp will come back and hope that they wont lol Vic

opinion for 9 yo
I might get slammed for saying this, but at 9 years old, I'd get her something bright colored with holograms on it. Might even consider and Ugly Stick. But even better yet, have her go and choose one out. I do know that better equiptment does increase enjoyment for us. But from a 9 year old perspective, what they may thing is enjoyable is different than what we think. How are you going to explain "sensitivity" or "smoothness" to a 9 year old? Are they going to care? The main goal at this age should be to increase the ejoyment and love of fishing. Not love of gear. I know that if you buy cheap you probably buy twice. But look at it from her point of view and what she would enjoy instead of grown ups telling them "whats good for you". Let her choose out her own gear so she can be proud of it. Or choose a setup thats almost exactly like yours. So she can be proud of it like you are. I think that the line is more important at this age than the reel and rod. I would go for a low memory line to make it more fun. Well thats my input on it. Vic

Fishing clear, weedy water?
I say use what you have. We probably care more about the line than the fish do. The action of your lure is more important than the fish seeing the line. If the 20 FC is too stiff and messes with the lure action, then you might want to go down to a 10-15 (depending on line). So it all depends on the lure your tossing.

Something I've neaver under stood about redfish regulations.
It takes 4-5 years for a redfish to grow to full size. About 31 or so inches. They live for up to 20 years. So the ones above 27 inches are full size and older than 4 years. 18 inches or younger will grow to maturity in a few years. You have enough to keep the population going and enough youngsters to grow to maturity. Thats my take on it. But they live and mate for a long time.

Heroes Premiere SUCKED last night! Minor spoiler alert
I knew in the first 2 minutes that I was going to be disapointed. Opening scene: Peter is running away from the bad guys trying to catch him.... RUNNING!! Umm... Cant he fly?? Ok well maybe he lost his powers? So he runs into Claire and she wants to shoot him... Peter, he can regenerate, why are you aiming a gun?? So I think again that maybe he looses his powers or something but NO he flys back into time and has all his powers. Wow. Now I am not one to nitpick over little things like this because I may be overthinking things. But it happened throughout the episode to the point where I actually was insulted. It turned the show from something smart and new, where you actually cared about the characters, to nothing but eye-candy. Vic

Heroes Premiere SUCKED last night! Minor spoiler alert
Wow was I ever dissapointed last night. Last two seasons, I was glued to the screen and never left the room. Last night I was "watching" from the kitchen part of the time. It seemed to me that the show was trying to shove 20 plotlines down our throats instead of focusing on one or two. It seemed that they wanted to "change things up" so much that they made the good guys that we were routing on to bad guys. And although its Sci-Fi and there is an element of extraordinary, the show always had a touch of "what if it were possible" realism to it. Yesterday Mohinder talked to a girl, found the cause of the mutism, created a shot to give him powers, and gave himself the shot all in 5 minutes??? What kind of garbage is that? Well I just wanted to see if anyone else was dissapointed or did most people like it. Vic

Fly Rod Weight
Sounds like you might want a 5 wt rod and line. very common "all arround" line. If you are looking for more "play" then you might go down to a 3-4wt. Bluegills will bite anyline. The heavier line might spook small trout but works well with smallies. The lighter lines are harder for smallies but good for river trout. But since you said "mostly" bluegills, my vote is an all arround 5 wt. Vic

Be specific when describing Fishing Line to your wife
Probably not as bad as a "lecture" I got when she stepped on one of my #14 trebble hooks I left on the floor

Be specific when describing Fishing Line to your wife
OK figured this was about fishing line so I posted it here. If not the right area please move it. My wife wanted to tie down some steaks in the garden for the veggies. So I tell her that I have a ton of fishing line in the garage that she could use. I come out to the yard and I see my Rio fly-line cut out into about 20 3-inch strips on the garden floor lol Hey its only 6$ a foot lol My fault for not being specific enough. Vic

Class Rings
I also never wore mine past high school. The only good thing is that I didnt loose any money out of it. By the time I sold it for gold scrap, the price of gold went up so much, I actually made a profit lol Purchased some fishing gear. But not much chance of that happening nowadays since gold is so high already. I wore it probably 15-20 times.
