6 legged deer is a mutation. In nature, it would have been eatten a LONG time ago. As the report said, it was already getting attacked by a pack of dogs. Mutations like this happen in nature, but natural selection usually takes care of the problem. If they "repaired" the deer and released it, the DNA that caused the extra legs would be passed down to other generations. Better to keep it in captivity or put it to sleep. Vic
  2. Explain your statement please. Carp and bass can get along. In fact caught a huge bass onetime in the middle of a breeding group of carp. Common carp does the bass "any good" because they have the ability to destroy the food chain in the water body. The carp will eat most anything and eats a LOT of it. They will eat up and kill all the cover, crustacians, bass nests and eggs, small fry etc. Basically they are eating machines. They wont eat the larger bass or adolecent bass. But they will eat up eggs and anything small baitfish need to survive. No baitfish or habitat, no bass. Carp eat a lot and grow FAST they also breed FAST and can live in waters that would kill a bass. They are tollerant to heat and cold. Thats why they dont do bass much good. The good news is that carp are fun to catch! And personally I like to eat them also. They are a different fight than bass. You can even bow-fish them in some states. So they are a destructive intruder fish. Kinda like snakeheads, just with less press about it. Probaly because they are less "impressive" than a snakehead. Vic
  3. Asian grass carp also apply to this. Stocked grass carps are usually placed for vegitation control. You need a permit and city approval to do this as well as studies done to the watershed. These carps usually are sterilized before stocking also so that they can not overrun the water body. Be sure, if it is common carp, go ahead and remove them. But honestly, you probably wont remove enough to make a big difference. Vic
  4. Kinda looks like an Oscar fish to me. Hard to tell for me at that angle. Might be wrong though. Vic
  5. Media wouldnt report it if people didnt want to watch/read it. It's not their fualt, they just want to provide what people want to see. Look at all the people you get rubbernecking an accident. People like to read about things like murder, rapes, robberies and beatings. There was a paper and a news show on TV once that only reported positive things in the community. Guess what? They both went out of business because not enough peopled cared to read it. The show got cancelled because ratings were bad. Dispite all the surveys saying "ohh id watch a show like that". Vic
  6. That is the catch for people who are just starting to date, you cant complain about the prices otherwise you look cheap! Cheaper to marry them and rent videos lol Vic
  7. 95% of ticket prices to get into the theater goes right to the movie distributors. In some cases its more than 95%. The theaters only make money off concessions. Thats why the prices are so outragously high. So they really cant charge 3$ a head to get more people into the theater. If it makes you feel better going to a theater and paying those prices, just think that you are helping to employ someone at that location. A friend of mine actually ran one of those 1$ movie theaters that play slightly older movies. He was telling me that he LOST money by charging 1$ for entry. But made money only from the popcorn/drinks. He even moved the ticket counter to the concession stand to bring up sales lol But usually the theater makes no money off ticket prices. Just concessions. Vic
  8. I downloaded a few games on a cell phone. I would stay away from the shooters. They tend to be nothing like the actual games they share a name with. Those were pretty lame pixelated army guys shooting black dots at other things. The puzzle games are really good though. Those games that you arent expecting great graphics and are timeless games. I also like the poker games, but those are very specific in tastes. Vic
  9. 25% of my bass fishing is with a flyrod. 60% of bluegill fishing on a flyrod. From my personal experience, I catch smaller bass in general with the flyrod but I have a lot more fun fishing. The number of bites is a little less also. But in general I catch more and larger bluegills on a flyrod. I also have more fun fishing. It took me a full season to get pretty good at it (not just basic casting). I really enjoy flyfishing for bass and would recommend it to anyone. There are a few threads out here on the message boards on what people use when flyfishing for bass. Just use the search option. Flyfishing for bass is really taking off in the past 10 years. Vic
  10. We care a lot more than the fish do I bet. Vic
  11. My vote is flyrod for bluegils. 2-4 wt for fun. Takes some pratice though but bluegills are easy takers and its a blast. If you want traditional I have an avid that I really like. Its 5'6 and I have a small president reel on it. Its a lot of fun also and I actually take some bass on that also. Vic
  12. Funny thing about crab is that I am allergic to the legs, claws and all that muscle areas, But I can actually eat everything under the shell. It wasnt until i grew up that I realized that under the shell is the brain and innards of a crab LOL But to me its the best tasting part and the only part I can eat. Vic
  13. The problem with frying is that you loose most of the benificial fish oils and fatty acids when you deep fry or pan fry. Some methods of panfrying arent as bad, but you still loose many of the benifits of eating fish. Vic
  14. LOL my wife says that too. Most of my friends also. They dont like fish that tastes "fishy". I tell them to order a hamburger then! Its a fish!! Its supposed to taste and smell like... fish Vic
  15. Did you mean to catch it or were you just practicing your cast? I remember my first fish was caught by accident when I was just working on casting and picking up line. Vic
  16. That perch looks like its been on a french fry/ fried food diet! LOL Vic
  17. In order to change it everyone NEEDS TO VOTE!! And Vote AGAINST anyone who is currently in office no matter what. Right now there is no one who is being held responsible for these increases. Who's problem is it when the prices get raised? Ours. There is no one person who can be fired or that you can complain to for change. No one else gets in trouble for raising our rates like that. The only answer is to MAKE someone responsible. And I am not just talking about mayors or goveners. How many people here vote in local congressionals? Or for Local county elections? Write a letter and vote against anyone currently in office. And follow through on it. I bet there will be change in no time at all. Of course they will say "the increase in rates is not our fault or under our control". But if we hold them responsible then it becomes their problem also. Utilities increases such as these usually require local government approval anyways. Of course this probably wont happen. Many dont think voting makes any difference. But is the local election that matter most. even still, people have short memories and usually forget about things like this during election time. Or they cant stomach to vote for the opposite party. So in the meantime we get stuck with the bill... again and again. Vic
  18. Actually my favorite way to eat these fish is to steam them with a little soy sauce, sesame oil and scallions. The meat is especially soft and moist. very nice. Vic
  19. Ha! that is great, see they are on the ball! 5'8 and 6'2 rods. Gotta market it better though. Vic
  20. I completely agree about the emphasis on enjoying fishing. But I do have to point out that I do think there is a difference between "cool" and "quality". Having a cool rod is more like gimmicks I think. But having a quality rod is something completely different. I think having quality gear would help emphasize the enjoyment of fishing. For instance, rocket pole=cool rod. Avid Rod with a 5 bearing reel=quality. I enjoy flyfishing and bamboo rods are very "cool" but not all of them are quality. So I do think there is a difference. Vic
  21. I was looking in the resume's section of the forum today and read about some fishing phenoms that are only 13 years old. This started me thinking about what a great opportunity this may be for fishing and fishing companies. If you think about it, Kids are the next advertising gold mine in fishing. Right now who are the target audiences for high end or even middle of the road rods and reels? Its mostly older males. Now take this to the next logical step, Fishing with the kids. How many dads fish with the Shimano reels and Loomis rods? The kids get stuck with the ugly sticks and those "rocket" poles! Now have a kid advertise these higher end rods and reels to other kids, then you really have a whole new market opening up. Of course they will need to have their parents buy the rods but heck id buy my kid a $100 rod if he would care for and appreciate it. Id rather buy that then those pokeman cards. Its a good idea for fishing companies and for fishing in general by creating a whole new generation of anglers. Get ready for children size Curado's and 5'5 Loomis rods! A new generation of bait monkeys? Would you purchase children size equiptment designed specifically for kids? Vic
  22. What a great opportunity to learn and teach other kids about the art of fishing! Vic
  23. Yea I did also LOL in fact I got 2. Rod and reel combos were buy one get the 2nd for half off. Just wasnt sure if they were first quality reels. There was an instruction manual for the reel stapled to the rod though. Vic ..as you can see the bait money won this time! (usually does)
  24. Hey all, I was at the Gander mountain store the other day trying to fend off the bait monkey and noticed something on the racks. They had a Curado, Energy PT, and Abu STX combos on the racks. They come with a matched brand rod. I was wondering if these are new reels or returned/reconditioned reels. Reason I ask is that they combos were either cheaper or the same price as the reel itself. For example, the Revo STX came with a Fenwick heavy action rod for 199. But at the reel section the Revo STX was 199 by itself. Why would they be the same price? It was about the same for the Curado combo and the Energy PT Combo also. I guess the combos dont have a box for the reel. But is there any other difference? Just wondering. Vic
  25. Here is the site to the stand up kayak I was refering to in the last post. Again its just something I came across. Personally I didnt like the concept. http://www.wavewalk.com/ Vic
