  1. My understanding of the reason for seasons is to allow them to spawn and keep populations stable while they get hammered the rest of the year. Is that accurate?
  2. I think I understand now. If you have baitcasters loaded with 20lb flourocarbon you obviously arent targeting bluegill. But if say walleye season is open and smallie season is not and you are targeting walleye and catch then release a smallie its ok.
  3. If there were any local tackle shop within 45 minutes of me I would. Especially if there was one that catered more to bass. Any that I have been to really pushed the crappie gear.
  4. Thanks to everyone for the information. I used to live on the Delaware river in NY and I sure wish I still did for the fishing and being able to drive to your store and shop in person! But seeing as I'm selling stuff i wont be buying anything for a long time.
  5. Thanks for the input and no rain on the parade here so no worries.
  6. That wouldn't be a bad idea. I could ship reels through my work for pretty cheap but I'm also hoping people locally will want them as a combo and not just the rod or reel. I dont have to sell them so i can be patient.
  7. Ok so it's not a major crime if you catch something out of season, you just cant keep it. Seems fair enough.
  8. I don't expect it, thats why I'm asking what a realistic number would be. Ive never sold any fishing gear so I have never looked into used values.
  9. Forgot to note, they are all in prime condition. 9 out of 10 on condition.
  10. I am selling my nicer bass fishing gear locally because I don't want to mess with shipping rods. I don't know what used gear is generally going for so I was hoping you all could help me out. I will be posting it all on Facebook in the Tulsa area if that matters. Here is what I have that I would like to sell. Lews Speed Spool LFS x 2 Lews Mach rod 7' mh/F Lews Mach rod 6'10 mh/me Shimano SLX XT Shimano SLX 7'2 H/F
  11. What happens if you are fishing for bass on Friday and catch a walleye? Ive never dealt with seasons before so I don't know any rules ot regs on fishing seasons.
  12. Oklahoma is known for paddlefish and has a very strict policy. Each license is allowed one per year. To keep that is. So I hope strict laws like this help preserve the species. On another note good lawd that is a huge fish to come out of fresh water!!
  13. Wow that still sounds amazing. If you're only fishing one lake it might as well be a Great lake!
  14. Im so upset. I had a small fly box with a bunch of hand tied spiders, ants, and bees and I lost it somewhere. They were given to me by a member on crappie.com so they were irreplaceable. Plus a bunch of nice dry and wet flys and nymphs my wife bought me. Just gone and no clue where.
  15. Dangit Tom, I know you are one of the most experienced anglers here, and to see you say next to a nightcrawler the best for a novice. I'm just a novice with alot of lures, and the Rapala Floating Minnow is not one of them. I think I might have to change that.
  16. I do have other rods and reels for other purposes and dont have a spare rod to put the reel on. So I was just going to keep it together and try to branch out of my comfort zone and throw some lures what would utilize the rod better.
  17. I'll take any of them over the carolina rig! I was thinking of the ones that have a screw lock on the jig head that you screw the worm onto then texpose the hook.
  18. Ive thought about throwing big worms but pond fishing I didn't think I would need that heavy of a weight, is there reason to go up to 1/2 oz even if the relative shallow water of a pond? I feel like the SLX rod is sensitive enough for me since I'm still a novice.
  19. About two years ago I put together my first nicer rod and reel combo. I got a package deal through *** on a SLX XT in 8.1-1 and a 7'2 H/F SLX rod with 60lb braid mainly for frogging and ive thrown an A Rig on it as well. I love the setup and want to use it more but where I fish doesn't always call for frogs and I dont throw the A Rig too often. Ive thought about using it for jigs but I rarely throw jigs and when I have they were smaller finesse jigs and I used a 7' MH/F for them. I'm bank bound and fish ponds mostly, is there something to I could be doing to better utilize this setup because I really enjoy using it.
  20. Which isn't a shakey head just a bigger and often weedless version of a ned rig?
  21. The only time ive had a 15+ bass day was a local pond, that I need to go back to, that was loaded with small and very hungry bass. The pond was covered in scum and pads so naturally I threw a frog and a buzzbait and they ate the fire out of it, but they were all less than a pound. No big rod bending fights on the frog rod but still fun.
  22. I likee H2O Express when I was more into crank baits and such and they always looked and worked great. I dont know if its an Academy store brand but they carry Wahoo spinner and buzzbaits for about $2 and ive had great luck with them as well. I like the 8up scent BPS uses on their soft plastics but only ever bought a pack of their roboworm knock offs and they look great. One thing I do buy specifically for the price is BPS Tungsten weights and weighted wacky jigs. For tungsten they are priced fairly.
  23. Man that sounds like some amazing fishing there and the kind of day that I need!
  24. I guess my point was I tend to stay to the same few places because ive had good luck at them and I have limited time to fish so I try to go where my odds are the best. But to be honest I enjoyed fishing more when I went to new places or places I hadnt been in a long time and they are different and I learned things to look for since then and seeing how my choices affects my catch rate. Granted I'm a bank bound pond angler 90% of the time, lake bank angler 5%, and boat lake angler 5% of the time. So basically I stay to the same few ponds and I need to branch out more even though I get to go less. Its ok if I get skunked because half the time I get skunked because I keep going to the same old place the same old time experimenting with whatever is new and not what works best. So might as well enjoy some new scenery!
  25. That's really interesting. I would love exploring a river. It would never get old. You could always go further upstream or downstream and thats alot of water to explore. Ive only fished one crappy river and an oxbow of another crappy river so actual nice river bass fishing sounds like an amazing time! Sounds like a nice spot to be in if you ask me. I would be happy being that close to that many lakes and had a boat to fish on them! I used to be that way and I enjoyed it more, caught more, and just had more fun. But life got busy and me and my wife had a third kid and she got diagnosed with Lyme disease so I dont fish as much, and thats ok!! It's worth it for my family!! Because I know it's not forever and things will smooth out and I'll get some time to fish more.
