  1. what's the forage like? try to drop shot 'em or a bounce a football head around
  2. football time on cherokee! 20+lbs of smallmouth in about 4 hours friday afternoon. just one of those days
  3. ran into these friday afternoon, boat was sitting in 75 ft of water on a couple. they came from 25-28 range though
  4. the pic in my original post is a 1/2 oz strike king swing head, the hook isnt the best shape and you cant remove the swinghead from them. IDK i prefer to throw the 1/2 oz anyways since it can be slung a country mile and use heavier line
  5. any of you guys ever slow roll swimbaits on a swinghead? Started doing this last year since several of the tournaments i fish you can't throw a-rigs. tied one on for a little while last weekend and caught a few good keeper fish. I kinda figured this would be a northern thing where goby's are active but it can straight whack em on deeper clear lakes here in east tn. Never really seen anyone else throw them like this before and wanted to get some input
  6. hey man this is exactly froggin season right now. the colder it gets, the better. at least here in east tn. if you think the fish are line shy take a black sharpie and color the last 3-5 feet of your line down to the knot. pond fish are pretty much the same in all of them i go to, wacky rig a red shad senko or yum and go to town
  7. an old bill lewis rattle trap on a spinning reel, theres no doubt when they get hit and the fish hook theirselves 75% of the time
  8. behind being a professional fisherman, a meteorologist has to be the best job in the world. Tell everyone what you think, you're always wrong, and everyone still loves you. sign me up
  9. hey man if the water is too clear or slick put a worm on a swinghead and swim it in. seems to help with the finicky ones when it is dead still or clarity is more so than usual. a general rule i go by is if it is too clear for a crankbait throw a chatterbait, you will catch the same fish
  10. as long as there are some sunny rocks nearby i caught 8 keepers saturday morning in an hour and half in < 3 ft of water
  11. guys if you come across fish shallow, no matter what time of year, they are usually there to eat and are normally the most aggressive fish in the lake. once they come up shallow for the fall(especially back in creeks), they are there until the winter arrives. Throw the kitchen sink at them and create reaction bites, they'll eat something eventually
  12. if anything downsize. I honestly don't think size of bait matters as much as presentation in the fall. Throw a chrome/blueback bill lewis rattle trap if they are busting bait, if you can't get a bite or getting short struck REEL IT FASTER. Saturday i was out on Loudon throwing the exact same thing as the guy fishing out of the back of my boat. Fan casting across giant rock point, i outcaught him 14-3. presentation matters
  13. guys the fishing show is a must go to if you've never been to one. Just about every stand there will hook you up with some kind of deal if you buy something. Last year bought a couple Curado's and mckee hooked me up with a curado rod for each. Bring cash because some of the smaller vendors still do not take credit cards(it is 2019 right?)
  14. throw a chatterbait or rattletrap on at least a MH rod, depending on grass thickness, possibly throw it on a heavy rod. hold your rod tip at 11 while burning it in. much easier to rip through the grass using a heavier outfit. booyah pad poppers are always a good choice too
  15. I think this plug makes bubbles while you reel it in, not a whistle....tie it on and sling it in a swimming pool and find out. seems like an awfully good idea though, even if thats not what it does lol
  16. Throw them at night on mountain lakes(hiwasee, fontana, chilhowee) and parallel the banks close enough to not catch tree limbs. no blacklights, liable to get your arm broke
  17. doubles on a cotton cordell sunday morning lol
  18. use regular drop shot/split shot hook, with those octupus hooks you really dont even set the hook you just kinda reel into them...i use octopus hooks when wacky rigging and the drop shot hooks have a little bit longer shank
  19. what hooks are you using??
  20. HAHA! he got me on out at oak ridge a few months ago! im also a terrible golfer. could really only afford one expensive hobby at a time LOL we need to go man!
  21. All of my biggest fish have come in fall or spring. Caught my PB 11.3 last October frog fishing on chickamauga. It’s relative to your location, fish are generally bigger in the spring but that doesn’t mean they bite more frequently. I catch more dinks in the fall than anytime of year, mainly because my go to style is power fishing and covering water
  22. It can certainly help with the learning curve, but just like anything until you actually get out there and practice/figure it out for yourself you won’t get any better. Luckily I was taught by my Pappaw growing up throwing Jitterbugs in the pitch dark on mountain lakes. I think a lot of your skill depends on where you live, I fish mostly all tva waters, so you have to know a buncha different ways at all times of the year to catch fish.
