Finding a good backpack
You may want to look for some saddlebags that fit on your bike in addition to a backpack for your tackle. I’m guessing there may be some you could use as a cooler.

The latest sale thread
Can someone make another thread for the Dobyns shipping concerns? There’s like 3 pages of it now.

Garmin Striker 4 Plus -VS- Striker 4CV
I used my Striker 4 Plus CV for the first time yesterday on my kayak. I didn’t have any problem with the size of the screen. I had mine on horizontal split screen. I had the sonar on top and CV on bottom the whole time. Worked great. I would definitely suggest the extra $40 for the CV model. It is great to have that and sonar together. I was on a small unmapped lake. I also used the quickdraw contours. It worked very well also.I would highly recommend this unit, especially for the price.

Wow! FLW National Championship Disqualification
If this is the rule they are quoting, then what part of this rule was broken? There was a lure attached to the line. The line was attached to the rod and reel. And the rod was in hand. He just happened to hook the other line.

Right Handed vs Left Handed People...
I'm the exact opposite of this. I'm left handed and always use right hand reels. I put the handle on the right on my spinning reels also.

IL Kayak Fishing
Where is Rock Run? Never heard of it and google is slightly confusing. I’ve thought about that. I’m just down the road from Bureau. What parts do you fish? I’ve heard there’s some decent fishing there just not sure where.

New Kayak!
I just picked up a few last week from the Airhead website for $30. Not sure if they are still on sale.

For those of you cold water kayak anglers - spring
I’m going to begin kayak fishing this year. I don’t have a ton of tackle, so 4-5 3600 boxes will cover me and all fit in the crate with room to spare. I do have quite a bit of soft plastics though. What do you guys use for those? I’m debating on a couple of gallon ziplock bags or a couple of KVD worm bags.

Cheap Fish Finder for Kayak
I'm about to get a Striker 4 plus for a kayak as making my own maps is important to me. What unit do you use for this? And any tips/problems/info about the maps you make? Not sure what you already have installed, but it looks like the transducer mount you have will need to be screwed into your kayak. I'm planning on getting the Scotty #141 mount, which is basically the same. It has a small piece of track to mount. My kayak has a track, but I'm thinking I want the transducer mount a little farther forward than where my track is.

Kayak Fishing Clothing
Thanks for the ideas.

Kayak Fishing Clothing
Just curious what type of clothing you guys wear while kayak fishing. Especially when the water and weather is colder. And shoes as well. Do you wear any type of waterproof shoes? How do you stay dry enough to keep the water from making you cold?

IL Kayak Fishing
Since you're in Joliet, have you ever fished any of the Mazonia lakes? Curious how the fishing is and how it is in a kayak.

Am I missing out not using a jerkbait?
Does anyone throw them out of a kayak? Is it hard to work them from a kayak?

Good thread. I've been watching several of the channels listed here, but have some new ones now too.

Dick's Sporting Goods what are they thinking
I stopped by Dick's to kill some time waiting for a movie this past weekend. Same thing in Peoria, IL. All the fishing stuff was gone. The Gander Outdoors here already closed. There is a Bass Pro, and they are good. The Walmarts near me all have a pretty decent amount of fishing gear, but the color selection on lures/plastics is limited. I have no problem shopping online, but I hate paying shipping and don't always want to spend $50-100 to get free shipping. Amazon Prime gets a lot of my shopping if I'm not making a trip to Bass Pro.

What would you buy?
I wouldn't consider a Great Lake or the busiest freshwater waterway per acre in the US a normal lake. That's like considering the Burj Khalifa a normal office building. It's not a question of trying to find a specific boat to fish a specific lake. It's a general question about would you prefer an older fiberglass boat or a newer aluminum boat. I have a boat. I understand the differences in details on boats. It wouldn't be a boat for a specific lake near me. It's about a boat to fish a variety of lakes (not extremes like a Great Lake), a variety of conditions (I understand a deep V would be better in a storm than a flat hull), a variety times of year, etc. In general, what are some opinions, would you rather have an older fiberglass boat or a newer aluminum hull boat. For instance, if you could only choose one rod, would it be a MH fast casting rod or a ML fast finesse spinning? I understand those would not be ideal for a frog. If you don't want to offer an opinion, that's fine. Don't. I'm just curious what opinions on this question are out there. Is this any aluminum hull or specifically Trackers? Just curious why.

What would you buy?
Tow vehicle would not be an issue. Assume like a 20' fiberglass and like an 18' or 19' aluminum. And for fishing on normal lakes. This is purely hypothetical, I don't have 2 boats in mind. I'm just looking for general thoughts and opinions.

What would you buy?
What would you buy in this hypothetical situation? You have $10,000 to buy a bass boat. You can get a 2001 fiberglass (Skeeter, Ranger, another good brand, etc.), or you can get a 2015 Tracker aluminum. Assume the mechanical condition of each boat is solid and equal. Both have comparable trolling motors. Electronics are close enough to not be a deciding factor. Maintenance is equal. Trailers are equal. Which would you go for? Basically would you rather have a 20 year old fiberglass or a 5 year old aluminum? And why?

What’s going to kill all of the bass next?
The only thing I can think of is 1. there isn’t anything to eat the eggs and 2. The predators aren’t big enough to eat any carp of some size. Whatever the reason is, it’s a huge problem in this river.
-
What’s going to kill all of the bass next?
I live 3 blocks from the Illinois River. It is overrun with Asian carp. The fishing on this river is ridiculously terrible due to them.

Know any good bass clubs in central illinois
I'm interested in this as well. I'm near Peoria. I may or may not be interested due to time, but would like to know what is out there.

Garmin Striker 4 portable kit questions
Welp, I'm a moron. I was just looking through the Garmin info, and the portable kit and everything. I was thinking this came with some sort of smaller lithium battery or something, not a normal 12v battery like was linked above. Why I thought this, I don't know. It's definitely better to just buy the battery separately. If I duct seal the transducer in the hull, there's really no reason at all to buy the portable kit. Thanks for all the info above.

@jaimeastin Thanks for the info. The pool noodle setup is pretty sweet.

Water temp by region
A couple of reasons for all the questions. I haven't fished other than off a bank since I was a teenager in Texas. I used to fish moderately seriously for a couple of years, but again, I was a teenager. I now live in Illinois. My son is out of the house at school now, so I decided fishing was the hobby I was going to revive to occupy my time now that I don't have his sports (other than his football season) to occupy it anymore. Plus, the wife will go with me. We're getting kayaks now, and a boat in about a year. I need to learn how to find fish, and I'm completely unfamiliar with Illinois water. Another reason is I'm a very analytical person. I enjoy using this time in the winter sitting on the couch to dissect my revived hobby. That's why most of my questions are pretty general. I know enough about bass fishing to know that every piece of water is different. And there are many factors that affect what bass do on a daily basis. I may be over-complicating it some, but I'm just using this down time to educate myself the best I can since I have nothing better to do. Once it warms up in Illinois, I'll be hitting the water and learning with experience.
