  1. Got out again yesterday evening and finally got a bass from what I would consider one of my home ponds. Got two within 5 ish minutes of me. Weather lined out for a few days and got a nice one around 3 or 3.5 on a shad chatterbait custom. Me and a buddy are going out to the other pond near me in about 20 minutes. We will be practicing social distancing and hopefully will be bringing a few bass to the bank. Will report back. Feels good to be sliding into more consistent weather for the most part and get that confidence back up where it belongs.
  2. From my experience the wire type and diameter makes a difference. It affects the amount and the severity of the vibration. Thinner wire provides more vibration but the trade off is durability goes down as wire size goes down. Blades like others have said make a lot of difference but most companies offer lots of blade combos. I have lots of brands of spinnerbaits and have caught lots of fish on most of them but the three I reach for the most: booyah, war eagle and nichols. Are they the best? I don't know. Why do I throw them? Confidence I will go along with Ajay on this..I think the magic isn't in the bait it's the dude ( or dudette) chucking it...spinnerbaits are interesting in that they seem simple which they are..but the more you throw them especially in different conditions the more subtle nuance you discover
  3. I hang my combos horizontally on L brackets screwed to the wall..not fancy or sophisticated but it's worked well for me for years
  4. I have given the Ned more than its fair shake and will continue to use it from time to time...but for me a shaky head, senko and even a Texas rigged finesse worm have far outfished a Ned rig.
  5. He would be looked down on for sure...mostly by the people consistently finishing behind him. It's fun to have lots of stuff and try tons of new lures and techniques..but if all we wanted to do was be consistent and catch fish we could all learn something from him.
  6. Forgot to add..as some have already mentioned..the versatility of a jig. Because of all the methods and trailer options a jig can resemble a wide variety of prey. Jigs are kind of a Jack of all trades..they don't look like anything but they kinda look like everything. The same jig with a different type of color trailer an resemble shad, perch, bluegill, baby bass, crawfish and on and on
  7. My two favorite are spro aruku jrs. And Cordell spots. So my favorite weights are 3/8 and 1/2 don't really have a lot of use for smaller or bigger where and how I fish.
  8. Thank you Mobasser...you always have great topics and replies. And I agree this site is an invaluable resource.
  9. Yep...mirror carp for sure

There are brands that I favor for many lure categories...think we all have our favorites...my two would be strike king and rapala...that said I probably own a dozen different hard bait brands...all that said I wouldn't go without spro aruku shad jr or rebel pop r..better baits out there but I have huge confidence in those
  11. I would add that in my experience in stained to dirty\ muddy water a jig seems to work better than anything super realistic. Only reason I can give is super realistic is usually finessey and more subtle and in off color water you need more bulk and water displacement to get there attention more easily. Another thing I think factors in is jigs come through cover better than a lot of lures so we are more confident to throw them in the places we need to. My guess is the realistic stuff would really shine in ultra clear water or high pressure situations.
  12. I think this society thing goes both ways...I think it's generational as well but I'm a younger guy and don't believe in throwing things away as opposed to trying to figure out how to fix them. I do agree that it is common in people my age and younger. The counter part to this is we are a computer driven society and have been for a long time now but that doesn't stop people my parents age and over resisting this and not learning even basic computer skills. I think in our society you should be at least marginally proficient at a lot of things. Technology, basic computers skills, trouble shooting of basic mechanical issues. I will add one thing that blows my mind is i m convinced there is not a single person under 25 in this great country of ours that could change a flat tire. My buddies dad taught me that at 17 when I got my first car.
  13. My rundown goes like this...boss swim jig heads 1/4 oz and the only colors I throw are shad and bluegill imitations and I make my own skirts. Also I prefer the northern\ finesse type skirt which is maybe 35 or so strands with all the inside strands trimmed almost to the head and a lot of the time I tie the skirt with braid.I've tried lots of trailers including swimbaits, various grubs and several craw types and by far the two I've been most successful on are the big bite baits 5 inch finesse grub in white pearl and zoom Ultravibe speed craw in green pumpkin. For rods\reel the one I use the most is a St Croix mojo 7ft1in medium heavy fast..use this rod for regular jigs alot as well..reel is a Abu Garcia revo sx in I believe 7.1 to 1. For line I don't fish very many grass lakes\ ponds just mostly wood and rock so I throw 12 or 15lb izorline xxx copolymer.
  14. Thanks for your reply...I know what you mean about the be smart don't run around thing...I've been with my lady since 2011 which is longer than a lot of marriages last..she's a great woman very supportive and understanding. I am also familiar with the night life as I spent 3 years working 7 pm to 7 am...in case your wondering I'm a plant technician 2 for a biofuel company...we make Ethanol, corn oil for biodiesel, ddg for cattle feed and CO2 for the food and beverage industry.
  15. WRB is right it was in 18 I have seen a lot of guys throwing neko as well that's true...still believe a weightless senko probably gets thrown more by pros day in day out Guess I was confused because the title is why don't pros fish the Ned rig?
  16. Mark Daniels jr won the Lake Oahe elite series event in 2017 with Ned rig Grae Buck came in 2nd to Andrew Upshaw last year in the FLW event at Lake Cherokee...he was throwing shaky head and Ned ig
  17. Spinnerbait has always been a confidence bait for me..had luck on them from day one and they still produce. Like many of you jig is also a confidence bait but it also took me a while to get it. I remember throwing and losing jigs several times without really having luck on them and almost giving up on them totally. One cold November day I took just a jig rod and a couple jigs to a pond because that's what you throw that time of year from what I had read on here. I only caught 1 bass that day but it was a giant. I'm talking between 7 and 8 lbs. One of my biggest bass ever...and since that day I have understood the power of the jig. So I guess some confidence comes easy and some is truly earned.
  18. Id kill for 5 to 10 this time of year where I live..I've been out half a dozen times this spring..twice was under 10
  19. Ok so Jfrancho is on to something here...I use alot of strike king and rapala hence why I say they are tied for me...but there are a few other things I can't do without...for instance a rebel pop r is my confidence popper..and for how I fish I couldn't do without spro aruku shad jrs and Cordell spots for lipless even with how good red eyes and ripping raps can be
  20. Haven't seen an alien emoji in some time...very nice
  21. There's a lot of great ones out there but for me factoring in complete line up its a toss up between Strike king and Rapala...they just have most if not all the bases covered and at reasonable prices per quality imo
  22. Oh I suspect that he knows them..unless he is indeed a crazy person
  23. Id estimate in a slow year I catch 200 in a good year maybe 500...have had years considerably better and some worse but averaged out probably 350 a year..been bass fishing about 20 years so 7000?
