  1. I also love buzzbaits...haven't even bought a whopper plopper yet...usually throw them on a 7ft medhvy mod fast Berkley shock..pflueger supreme baitcaster...15lb izorline xxx copoly...always a 3/8ths war eagle or cavitron white 10% of the time black 90%
  2. I've got a couple cans of Bang but haven't had much luck with it..I do like JJs magic though..it's a dual attractor a nice splash of color and scent
  3. Booyah and war eagle are my go to budget spinnerbaits..they are around 6 bucks often...for a few bucks more I love Nichols spinnerbaits..I've also never spent 10 on a spinnerbait
  4. Thanks for the responses looks like I'll get a pack of the bigger size in summer gill
  5. Who has used these on a swim jig ? What size would you recommend for this application? I've never seen them in person so I'm unsure of the true size... I know what they say the sizes are but we all know that varies by company
  6. My boss lives about an hour from me... he said his children were sent home Tuesday until at least Monday for an entire school system shut down since one parent in the area tested positive I like everyone else here do not know how serious this is going to be but from what I've seen it read from what id say are actual credible sources the mortality rates will be noticeably higher than Flu but no where near what was originally projected I had Influenza A a month ago or so which has many of the same symptoms as corona and was better in less than a week... I missed a Thursday and the following Monday and was back to work Tuesday Guess what I'm saying is im a fairly healthy 36 year old with a strong immune system and aside from being somewhat overweight I have no health issues...but just because I could survive it doesn't mean I won't take precautions or be foolish enough to think it couldn't happen to me..all you can do is be careful around groups of people, wash your hands, don't purposely cough in your face and be responsible enough to stay away from others if you end up getting it Everybody talks about how crazy it is that the media has blown this thing up and yes while that's dangerous what's even worse are people saying they know that it's all just media hype and they aren't worried at all...maybe they will worry when they give this to a grandparent or elderly parent and they don't fair well with the pneumonia All that said I agree with saying this is not black death 2.0...this will not cripple the world and take out 40% of the population like some media outlets would have you believe
  7. Id say that's asking a lot from one rod...I would have 3 different rods for those techniques...but one rod i say could probably do it is the Falcon Bucoo SR trap caster it has enough of a crankbait rod bend to keep a jerkbait of crank pinned but enough backbone to set a chatterbait hook..I have 2 in the old bucoo series I use for traps and squarebills mostly but have used them for small spinnerbaits and buzzbaits without issue
  8. Paddle tail swimbaits... On a swim jig you bet... on there own just throw them in the trash! Ned rig... I've caught fish on them but lost way more jig heads than caught fish... I've done much better on a shaky head or light T rigged finesse worm. Until last year I woulda said the same for lipless but after forcing myself into figuring them out I have tons of confidence in them...last weekend a buddy caught our first open water bass of the year a nice chunky 3lber on a spro aruku shad jr. Ice had been off like 3 days water was maybe low 40s. I know that I've caught them on lipless in high 30 degree water up to high 80 degree water..that's pretty versatile.
  9. My two favorites are rebel pop r and super spook jr..change out hooks on both
  10. I have way more tackle than I need...why? Because I like it... I have a good job and can afford it and I also just enjoy having options. But it is definitely not necessary by any means in my opinion. When I started I went years using a plastic worm and a spinnerbait... All I really had was worm hooks, lead bullet weights, beads and barrel swivels so I could rig texas or carolina..Also had 1 popper and maybe 3 spinnerbaits and caught lots of fish. Also will say I have a close buddy I've been friends with for almost 10 years now...he is also a member here...who has 5 or 6 rods to my 20 and maybe 20% of the tackle I've got and guess what? He caught 1 last Sunday and I got skunked...he outfishes me often enough to remind me that I don't need all of that stuff.
  11. Oh I'm not saying you gotta go but any...but I would! I caught more fish on gold black back lipless in a two week period than I did the rest of the year in all other colors combined.
  12. Another thing id add for early spring colors especially for lipless is I've had decent success on red but have had much better luck on gold black back...until last year I only had moderate success with lipless but I had a day early spring when the water couldn't have been much over 40 and I thought well they won't eat this thing but I'm gonna chuck it anyway... In a matter of a few hours I caught 8 or 10 bass between 2 and 4lbs including 5 in 6 casts in a spot they were stacked in...gave me the confidence I needed to throw lipless in colors other than shad imitators Hey BLUEBASSER what trailer are you throwing in that bladed jig? That bright orange color looks intriguing to me
  13. Id say probably St. Croix for bottom contact baits and Falcon for most treble hooked baits
  14. My Dad and Uncle (his little brother) both retired and moved to the Iowa great lakes region aka Okoboji and spirit lake. They decided to do this so they had access to good fishing and could get out all the time. They even went in on an ice castle permanent fish house to be comfortable in the winter. My dad is 65 and Uncle is 63 this year and both guys have typical issues from age but are in relatively good health. They honestly fish half as much as me with dad totally retired and Uncle working only 2 days a week for something to do. My dad talked about retirement with me since he was 50 and how he couldn't wait to fish all the time and now he goes less and less all the time. I don't get it.
  15. Guess I lied...Ice is out on my local pond so season starts for me tomorrow
  16. Im with Paul on the visibility deal...fish seen to be in a haze\funk right away like they need to rub the sleep out of there eyes after winter...Also the water tends to be off color after ice out for me so I think red stands out. Another factor is lipless puts out a lot of sound and a chatterbait lots of vibration which I believe helps them find it easier in dirty water when coupled with a color that stands out I.E black, red, chartreuse etc. This is just based on my opinions learned from experience...I don't know the true science behind it cuz like others have said in past posts I keep asking bass but they ain't talkin !
  17. My dad claims I started fishing when I was between 2 and 3. He told me a story about a time we fished off a bridge when I was 4...I threw a piece of my bologna sandwich on my treble hook chucked it over the side and a nice catfish gobbled it and proceeded to try and drag me over the side of the bridge. As a kid we moved all over the country so I had the fortune of fishing a lot of different species and places at a young age so it kept my attention. I fished freshwater until age 11 and then spent the next 6 years fishing inshore saltwater in Texas focusing mostly for speckled trout, redfish and flounder. Moved again at 17 and ever since I've fished for everything swimming in Iowas freshwater...but I've always loved bass fishing the most. Now days we have so much knowledge and content at out fingers that a person can learn anything about a lure or technique they could ever care to know. However there is no way to learn those little nuances or intangibles from a computer. Some things have to be learned first hand from failure and success to gain that unspoken muscle memory that you do but don't even know.
  18. I caught 4 bass over 5lbs last year: 1 on a black and blue pad crasher 1 on a Nichols pulsator metal flake double willow spinnerbait in JTs Chartreuse shad 1 on a green pumpkin sniper jig with a D bomb trailer My biggest was over 6 and it was on a black and blue arkie jig with a pit boss trailer
  19. Siebert outdoors or you can order the Gary Klein BOSS heads from tackle warehouse...both are quality and reasonably priced
  20. Well I was off in my prediction by several weeks..at least for several of the small ponds around me...I'll get out this weekend it's supposed to get into the upper 60s Saturday and Sunday
  21. What's the deal with em? There awesome..that's the deal! They have been a confidence lure for me for almost 20 years...only thing I've probably caught more bass on in my life is a plastic worm I use them alot...and with all the sizes and blade combos they are very versatile...you can slow roll them, burn them, fish them through fairly heavy cover..one of my all time favorites
  22. 7ft medium heavy moderate fast Falcon Bucoo trapcaster...Abu Garcia Revo sx 7.3:1...15lb izorline xxx copoly
  23. I believe they still have plenty of budget options TW is just carrying there upper end models...for now anyways... I'll admit I was skeptical about there products but a few years back I bought a stealth and an assassin and have to say I've enjoyed them..they aren't my favorite reels by any means but for the price I've seen much much worse I haven't tried them on any crazy torture test conditions like punching or frogging..but they cast well , reel smooth, have decent drags and are light and comfortable
  24. I agree with the fish where they live idea... I have a few ponds\lakes close that are dink factories but I focus on bodies of water where the bites are fewer but better quality Also agree that jigs just consistently catch better than average fish... I think there versatility of how they can be fished and the fact that they represent a large profile of several big bass forages just produces large fish better than any other 1 bait I know of Also id add something I feel to be true that I mentioned in the topic Ajay referenced...fish in bad conditions when other people won't fish..cloudy rainy windy spring days produce studs for me
