  1. ARRGH I wrapped all 11 guides yesterday. Spent a great deal of time too. Now the spiral wrap has peaked my interest. Should I cut off all my guides and spiral wrap it. Tough Call... Thanks Guys. Well, I am building a spinning rod after this one. I will spiral wrap that from the bottom up..... Just kidding.... But what if it worked???? US PATENT!! The Bassripper Rap ;D
  2. Hmnm, thanks guys. Will look into the spiral wrapped, never ever even seen one. What is the advantage of it besides cosmetic?
  3. So I used 9 guides + tip = 10 guides total on a 7ft casting blank. I spaced them out and did a static deflection test. However under load the line touches the blank between the tip and 1st guide and the 1st and 2nd guide. No matter where I move the guides, the line still touches the blank. I had no choice but to add another guide and respace everthing, now the line flows evenly and does not touch the blank at all, so my question is am I doing something wrong, or is it ok to have 10 guidts plus tip top = 11 guides overall for a 7 ft. blank. Seems exessive, but that was the only way I could get the line to flow without touching the blank under load. Any idea? Thanks all!!
  4. Thanks Flec I will do just that. ;D
  5. Thanks for all the input guys. What happened was that I bought a St. Croix Med Lite spinning and it was broken in shipping. About an inch off the top (it's a 7 footer). So I called the comapny and they are shipping me a new blank and told me to trash the one I have. Now why would I do that?? Basically I have a Med. Light Crucial DS rod ( LOVE IT) and will have a Med Light St. Croix rod for DS also. Sooo I really don't need three Medium Light Rods. So I figured I would experiment because I don't have a rod for the Curado. By the way, does anyone know where to get guides and they don't charge an arm and a leg for shipping? I only need 4 Fuji alconite guides size 6, those things can ship for 37 cents.
  6. HEHE... Allen.... Exactly my problem. I figured something light for small cranks/jerks and topwater. Dropshoting would be excellent too if I didn't want to use a spinning rig for it. Dunno man. I'll let you know if I do it and how it turns out if I do. Thanks for all the advice!
  7. Thanks guys I was thinking of pairing it with a curado 100d... and fish it with 8lbs test, 10lbs max. I need a rod for it and I happen to have a St. Croix SCIII spinning blank laying around. Do you think this set up would work or do you think I should get a casting blank for it.
  8. So whats the difference besides the ratings... A blank is a blank right? So could I take a spinning blank rated at ML 4-10lbs and make it a casting rod?
  9. How is the crucial in terms of power?
  10. THANKS Guys.... Looks like an Avid then ;D
  11. Hello everyone, I am considering purchasing a new spinning rod. St. Croix Avid Shimano Crucial Drop Shot Primarily, I would be dropshotting but would also be able to throw a couple jigs here and there. I have other rods for that. So, I hear that the Crucials are extremely sensitive but lack a bit of power. I was wondering if the Crucials are more sensitive than the Avid's. I hear the Avids have a little more power and both are very light. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
