  1. Expensive: Loomis IMX and St. Croix Legend Elite Cheaper: Shimano Crucial and St. Croix Avid Beater Rods: Shimano Clarus St. Croix IMO is the best in terms of quality and price.
  2. I want to buy one but for 80 bucks I can get new technology... buy my friends swears my them.... AWESOME drag.... never breaks...my only prob with it is that it does not have an anti reverse... If it did, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
  3. BAD TO DA BONE!! It fishing exactly like the Luvias 1003..... too bad it isn't mine, but when I do get another spinning it will be this one or the Luvias 1003
  4. I have the Okuma Inspira IA-20 It is a really good reel, casts good, very smooth, drag is strong. I beat up on that reel alot and it takes it fine. The only thing is that the line clip on the spool is poorly designed. It sticks out slight and doesn't sit flush and tight against the spool. So what happesn is when you cast, the line catches on the clip. This happens maybe 1 outta 10 casts if your not careful..... With that being said, It is a really good loaner reel, but for spinning I keep with Shimano and Daiwa.
  5. Yeah, I too was once in the same boat as you. Then one day I went to get my reel serviced at shimano in Irvine and asked the guy there. He said don't waste you money, get a Stradic FI.... the Sustain is basically the same reel with a couple features that isn't worth the extra dough.... so I bought a Stradic Now if you want to buy a reel in the Sustain price range, I would take a long hard look at the new Daiwa Fuego A, same as the japanese Daiwa Luvias........ you will not be dissapointed. Btw. I fished the Steez Exist this weekend, blows the stella away.... Sorry RW.... you have to try the Daiwa spinning reels.... I am amazed.... sorry off topic.
  6. Reel Mech's products... Sewing machine oil works well in bearings as well. Reel Mech's is Gold Lithium Grease and the oil I am not sure about, but it is very much like Shimano Oil....
  7. Thanks guys The core is acutually used but Like New so there is only one MG50 = ***.... Well, I see the core is superior.... if I knew of a place that sold core's for 180, of course I would share the love!!
  8. Hi Guys I have a decision to make. I can get a Core or a 50MG for the same price. $180... Which one is superior overall?
  9. Sucky I like MVL..... but you need to know someone there too.... That's y I'm tryin to buy a house there next year and get me a little bass boat.... now we talkin
  10. Wasup Flech, Izorline is really good line. I like the xxx It has low memory, I use 2lbs test for trout fishing and have had no problems with 4-5lbs trout. P-line, which one? I like the original P-line and CXX, really strong and has some memory, but very abrasion resistant. I use the 15 and 25lbs test for barracuda and tuna fishing out here in socal However, I do think you should stay away from the Pline Floroclear..... I liked it at first but found after some fishing it started to break easier and the abrasion reistance isn't really on Par. Give Izor XXX a shot... I think you will like!
  11. Me too, hook me up with some info... I won't blow up the spot...
  12. Buy it.... i found an IMX for 150 and jumped on it... the GLX for 150........ No Brainer..... If you don't buy it, I will.... just tell me where.
  13. I have yet to pull the trigger on the 50MG.... I wonder if the new D series will be better.... but 300 is steep. Hmmm, looks like the 50MG is classic.
  14. http://www.leadertec.com/tipsandtechniques/fishing_knots/knots_Bimini.html What is it good for?
  15. http://www.calfishing.com/freshwater/shimano_curado_maintenance_guide/index.html
  16. Why? ;D ;D ;D HONESTY!!! I'm glad there are still some out there. I lucked our recently too, $100 bucks off an IMX from Sports Authority. Except it happened opposite, it rang up $240 and I said uh miss, I think you made a mistake............ 8-)
  17. Dang... had $$ for the new Curado E saved up... went to Sport Chalet while I got the oil changed in my car next door...... saw a Gloomis IMX MBR 782 tagged $150........... Pulled the trigga... Figured I would mention it. Maybe your local spot had it marked down too, but it may have been a fluke. Neways, doesn't hurt to pass on the info.
  18. Yeah, the IMX are sweet rods. I wouldn't go to a GL2 or 3. Question: Can you feel a difference between an IMX and a St. Croix SCV Legend Elite rod? To me, the IMX, GLX, and SCV feel all about the same with different price tags.
  19. Not me........ but I would sure like to get my hands on one of dem reel seats.
  20. NO JOKE! http://www.newsday.com/news/printedition/longisland/ny-lifish305782274jul30,0,2052483.story
  21. Ditto on all comments. The lowest you should go is the SCIII and the IMX. This is where there is a noticible difference in performance. SCIII Would be perfect... Good for an all around rod.
  22. Thank you everyone, that's the info I needed. I think I am going to wait until the new blanks come out from St. Croix. The new LE looks promising with the SCV and SCVI butt section. I think they are coming out in October. Thanks again fellas! Evergreen too rich for my blood. Any opinions on Kistler LTA He70MLC, seems this rod is rated for 1/16.
  23. Gotcha That would lead me to wanting to throw as light as possible, around 1/8 oz... weightless plastics and mini cranks. So my question is, would there be any drawbacks on using a spinning blank as a casting rod. I would think not, as the blank is just a blank but am wondering if the properties of the blank differ between casting and spinning as rated by the manufacturer. Thanks.
  24. Hey all If you were to build a rod specifically for a Daiwa Pixy, what ratings would you use? Lookin to build a rod for it. I am leaning towards a St. Croix Avid or LE blank.... Is medium too heavy, if I went with a medium light it would have to be a spinng blank wrapped as a casting. Thoughts?
