  1. Use teflon tape to wrap around the threads on the real seat. That should hold it in place for each outing. Removable and redo-able...
  2. hey Guys Been trying out topwater and got some hits on a Hula Popper and Pop R. Very exciting. I wanted to try out some others. What do you think of 1. Zara Spook - Color? 2. Jitterbug - Color? 3. Anthing else I can try? Color? I fish mostly early morning and daytime. I know Black Jitterbugs are awesome at night but will a jitterbug in another color produce during day time. Thanks.

WOW... I am going to quit building rods and just order mine from you. Amaaazing work.
  4. Thanks guys, I'll give it a try. I'll post pics when I'm done. ;D
  5. Hey guys, I jus finished wrapping a spinning rod with no foregrip. I want to make an epoxy ramp from the reel seat to the blank. How do I accomplish this. Thanks again for any info.
  6. Yes these are exactly my options. I did not put the grip together yet. I was wondering if "you must have glued the grip flush with the end of the blank- if this is the case, just epoxy it in place and hand finish it once cured." this scenerio would be ok. I am afraid it will break off if not attached to the blank. If not, I would have to drill a hole. Is is possible for me to get a Fortner drill bit and use a hand drill? I wish I had the proper tools. Thanks guys. Luckily I bought two rings because I knew I was gonna mess up the first!
  7. Thanks Nice Pic by the way. Yeah, I don't have access to a drill press and don't want to buy one for this sole purpose. Do you think that making the hole is necessary or can I achieve a good bond without drilling the hole. It'll just be epoxied to the last ring in the handle. Any how, I'm hangin.... 8-)
  8. Hi I have a rubberized cork ring that I want to use as a butt cap. Problem is that it needs a hole in it. I thought I could use a 1/2" drill bit and drill a hole in it but it just destroyed the ring. It didn't cut a hole like I thought. Any suggestions to to this by hand?
  9. I second that one. I tried this line due to RW advice and it is great. I think I may make the switch, I do like the P Line flourclear also though. I do not fish any berkley line whatsover anymore. I lost most my fish on Berkley line, just lost all faith in their line. Although, I hear the XT is good but I'm done with Berkley >
  10. Build one or have one built. I'm pretty sure you can get something really nice in that price range. If you have the tenacity, you can do it yourself http://www.georgescustomrods.com/split_your_grip.htm
  11. Yeah, huh ;D I was looking at that and a couple posts you made about CTS blanks. Just wondering what they were because I never heard ot them.
  12. Thanks Guys!! Alpster, Just finished up a static deflection test and glued up my guides in simple spiral. It was simple, Just gotta wrap it. Thanks for your help!!
  13. Does anyone know what kind of reel seat this is?
  14. Thanks Guys Your info is invaluable as always. I was afraid my rod was too tip heavy, so I kept moving the reel and the seat up, then it started feeling like it was getting to a neutral balance. However, that makes the butt end way too long so I thought I would ask. Thanks for the insight, I think I am starting to finally understand more and more. Thanks again
  15. Thanks for the help guys!! Off to experiment.
  16. Hello guys, I was wondering, I am building a split grip spinning rod. In such, the reel seat can be placed virtually anywhere on the blank. What is you method of finding the proper location to place the reel seat. Is it just a matter of preference? Or is there a specific method that one could use to balance the rod out better? Thanks
  17. Hi Flechero, Nice Work!! I have 2 questions for you Newb Question 1: When you want to take off the reel, does the seat screw unscrew past the check and off onto the blank, or does it have just enough room to take the reel off. I am wondering how many threads I should cut off my reel seat for the no foregrip feature. Newb Question 2: How do you get the winding check to stick to the reel seat? Thanks
  18. Ok, I gots the LE blank. I also called St. Croix to see if I can get that reel seat the have on the LE's but they don't sell those individually. Anyone know how I can make the reel seat look like this
  19. Well, once you drop shot and start catching many many fish you will want something with more sensitivity and a fast to extra fast action to drive the hook through the plastic. Save another 60 bucks and buy a Shimano Crucial Drop Shot Special. I have one and love it. I got the 7'2" Medium Lite. Super sensitive.... Trust me, he who buys cheap buys twice..... in my case I bought 3 times. If you want though, I have my old drop shot rod, it's a clarus Medium spinning that I do not use anymore and will work fine. My email is tmnguyen50@hotmail.com. Holla at me if you wanna work something out. It'll be less than 60.
  20. So for some reason I did not feel comfortable with my spiral wrap, so I redid it again back to the original way. I will build my next on spiral thanks to the help of lobos69 and do some more research. But until then, here are the pics and wanted to thanks you guys for all your help. Reel Mech has been an especially great in helping me along. Here is my first build, hopefully it isn't too bad :-/ Thanks again you guys!!
  21. Thank you guys. I believe that I may go with the Legend. However, I do have a St. Croix SC III, now compared to the SC5, is it a world of difference?
  22. Nice, one vote for the Elite. I am on the verge of buying on or the other. I heard that the GLX uses the same blank as the IMX. Only difference on the GLX are higher components, so I've heard.... on the internet, which is not a fact. But yeah, I am leaning towards the elite, only problem is that I've never fished a loomis before so kinda curious about them.
  23. Did you build them Ronnie. I bet you did.
  24. What is the better rod Gloomis. IMX St.Croix Legend Elite both for the same price, both for fishing plastics and jerks... Bass mostly
  25. Ok, I rewrapped last nite, holy crap that took forever (Hand wrapping) I searched and searched to find angles but all I could find anything good. So I left the first two guides (Stripper and one after) straight on top, then I tured the 3rd one to the left, then the 4th one to 90 degrees left, then the 4th one 180 and the rest straight to the tip. I just guessed at the angles really and ran the line through. Seems ok. So I wrapped them. Hopefully it will be good. Just another thing is I used Garnet and Pearl white. I put on Flex Coat Color preserver, such a pain because it white and if you don't get the excess off in time, it doesn't look even and gives you spots and discoloration. So I got mad and coated the wraps with cp and took a paper towel and blotted off the excess instead of using a brush. Looks good I think, just a thought. Am I supposeed to thin that stuff before I use it. I wonder why it's not clear. So after that the pearl white trim turned a bluish tint, great. Any way keep the white color white. Anywho, sorry for the long post, just thought I would share last nite's ordeal with you guys. But all in all, I am happy for the experience and I wanted to say thanks for all your guy's help. Hopefully, my rods will get better. I'll post pics once it's all done,
