  1. Surprisingly it has the same knot strength and same stretch for me, none of the issues you listed above have occured and I have used many different types and brands of mono and floro I havent taken some of my rods out for months at a time and the line still comes off like braid. Im not a psyicist or chemist but none of the issues you mentioned above have come to me, only the usually line twist issues from fishing, but no memory after putting it on. Im not going to try to convience you to use my method any more because its your reel and you can choose to do whatever you like, but you will never know unless you try. (P.S zebco omniflex is highly underrated mono and blows berkleys trilene XL line out of the park, its stronger but albeit slightly thicker diameter but with even less stretch.) If you want images of an old spinning reel that has line on it with this method thats been sitting out of water for three months DM me your email so I can shoot you an image of the line still acting like braid. I wouldnt have typed this much just to lead you astray, and Im not trying to sell you any crap either, Im simply telling you what has worked for me for the past eight years, I learned it from crappie tournament anglers that use the standard mono, and P.S (some of them use zebco omniflex too because its decent for the price when praticing)
  2. get one of those big buckets that say home depot or lowes or whatever on em if you know what im talking about, I think they are 5 or 10 gallons. fill the bucket up with water all the way. Then take your spool and put it in the water face side down. IT HAS TO BE LABEL SIDE DOWN. Why I say this is because the sticky glue from the label (if the label is on top) will slide down into the spool and make a sticky mess, but if its label side down the sticky label glue will just sit at the bottom of the bucket. for the results to work it took around 3 weeks, I have some that have been soaking in this bucket for 2 years now, big giant spools like the 1lb spools, the monofilament comes off like braid its so limp. Most important part is when you are spooling make sure the label side is down (you dont need to hold to spool just put it on the ground with the label down and put your rod tip over the spool) the reason I say this is because its the only way to get that limp line on your reel with zero line twist. Living in SOCAL and growing up trout fishing, I have fished spinning rods sense I was 6, and I have tried everything from using warm water to soaking your fishing reel spool to those stupid gadgets that dont work to even spooling the line when the spool is in a bucket. This is by far the best method and I now proudly use the cheapest most kinkiest memory filled line (zebco omniflex) 2.99 (for 700 yards) with great success and it comes off the spool like braid. Many people dont know this method and I think it would make peoples lives alot easier without buying expensive braid. if you just want to try it buy a spool of zebco omniflex, and let it soak this winter, and spool it up in the spring on a crappy reel, you will be truley impressed.
  3. thanks these sound like pretty good methods, I have found a method to completley eliminate memory from mono and floro on spinning reels, but the line twist still gets me some days, It can get so bad as to when I make a cast the entire reel blows up like a backlash. I will try the boat trolling method and try the land based method as well, perhaps both may put an end to this issue.
  4. Fair enough, the way I see it is if people are paying $15 for a jackhammer, 5 extra bucks for a huge swimbait with quality terminal tackle is a fair deal.
  5. Do snap swivels or swivels help decrease line twist? Have hadguys saying they decrease the action of the bait on lures, but even fishing worms have been twisting my line, I'm starting to think it's either me being lazy and not threading them 100%, or just part of the game. Any ideas?
  6. Fall has been anything but this so called "fall feed" have yet to pattern bites reliabky; don't feel bad
  7. very interesting, did not know they where making a comeback.
  8. have you seen any up in your neck of the woods? I have only seen two in my lifetime, alot of the cattle guys shot them up around here and at one point there where rumors of them being gone, maybe they are coming back?
  9. Anything but rapalas, i break the lips off of rapalas too easily and they are way to expensive. Strike King's are only 5 dollars so if they break I don't really care.
  10. Don't usually carry knife while fishing, only nail clippers
  11. my fisheries have been dead, here in SOCAL the fish really get cranky when water drops tremendously and the water starts cooling... the "fall feed" has been anything BUT a fall feed this year, plus with alot of early rainstorms are hot "october" weather has been like up north with alot of 50-60 degree days and accasionally a 70 degree day. We are breaking records this year. It has created really sucky fall fishing because of all these factors IMHO, and I have only caught ONE fish this entire fall, its been rough. and believe it or not, ive been getting more bites on swimbaits than normal baits.
  12. I have a clackin crayfish lure that sits on my shelf, kinda a gimicy cute lure similar to that ,was gifted it
  13. I would take the refund and make sure they pay shipping costs. Even if it is 50% off thats still a really expensive rod, and black friday is right around the corner, you can probably find something you like even more for your purpose at a cheaper price, unless you really really like it, id turn it back in.
  14. Yes I was fishing 12lb today when jig fishing, am livid because that jig went through hell and came out of places it shouldn't have, all to be lost to a person's line in cover. *GRRRRRRRRRRR*
  15. Swivels with chips are useful and I do need to use them more, especially for spinning gear. With that said, they will catch more grass because it's one more piece of terminal tackle
  16. true I agree, However I thought the conservation efforts where based on keeping populations of bass healthy, not creating freaks of nature, maybe im wrong, but when japan tried to kill all their bass because they considered them "invasive" it created a few freaks of nature. freaks of nature sometimes mean the population of bass isnt as healthy, other times it means there may just be too much food in the ecosystem
  17. I prefer 7 and above, although use 6:6:1s often when fishing yucky water I don't want my nice reels in
  18. Seagar red label works great for the price! It's around $15. If that's too much, what I used to do when I was broke is tie a floro leader to my mono when fishing clear water. Increases sensitivity slightly and while bass are not usually line shy I think it makes a difference, being semi clear when fishing Gen clear water.
  19. What you fishing? Open water shallow=Wacky Open water deep=neko rig Structure=t rigged
  20. Your color choice of using flash for schooling. Bass in clear water is good, I would stick with it, perhaps try different sizes, or different retrieves. If you are getting bites you are doing something right
  21. A glass or composite rod does good for most moving baits with treble hooks, chatterbaits may benefit more from your standard jig rod because it's a single hook. Both reels you stated are good, dobyns rods are good, and to be completely honest you can throw cranks on a softer jig rod with mono, mono has stretch and will do what a fancy cranking rod with floro will do. P.S wait till black friday!
  22. I dont think hes talking about Minnesota
  23. water clarity?
  24. yeah it caught fish and worked well, personally the exposed hook is a problem and durability it lasts one fish, so im ganna give it a no for now.
  25. crankbaiting can be as complicated as you want it to be, or as advanced. Simply a glass or composite rod in the medium range should do wonders. I only carry one rod because im not lazy and can retie. I fish floro and mono 100% of the time. Mono for shallower, floro for deeper. I carry a standard squarebill, a shallow running squarebill in that 0-1 foot range, and a extra deep runner that is suitible for the depth of my lake. I also have a tight wobbled squarebill for early spring and late fall. (You can also substitute this for a lipless or a bladebait). colors really arent that hard, shiny for schooling fish, a sexy shad for stained water, and a chartruse for muddier water. you can also get a red if you really want to be fancy. Finally, I dont buy expensive cranks because the lips end up breaking before I can finish fishing them, rapalas are notorious for this, KVD squarebills are 5 bucks and do very well.
