Dick’s sporting goods, Keitech, and Googan
Don't shop at Dicks much, I buy things time to time but they blatantly UPCHARGE 1-2 bucks for each lure, personally I'd rather just pay the 5 buck shipping cost on TW and get some stuff you can't find in person. As for the googan baits issue the store does what a store does I guess, my local dicks barley has a fishing isle in general and another one doesn't even have one.

Loop Knot Or Small Snaps For Top Water ?
Both work both are great, whatever you prefer, loop not is cheaper but can always get a little damaged over time. Personally I do whatever I have on me.

Amazon Tackle
When buying Amazon tackle buy simple designs that are hard for them to screw up. For insrancing vertically jigging/casting spoons Is killer for bass this time a year, so I picked up a bladebait+4 3/8th-half oz spoons for 5.99 all different designs. Hooks suck bug replaced them but stamped spoon metal is Hella expensive, so a buck 25 a pop is a really good deal. All run true and their designs are simple. I don't know but you guys but spoons for bass and trout are getting REALLY pricey, don't know if it's because of the steel tariff or what.

Daiwa outlet
Not going to lie, even a tech savvy 19 year old like myself almost thought it was reel. Surprisingly the gui and web interface was smooth and crisp for a sketchy website, I mean midway USA has a worse gui x10 than this place, even was better built than TW. If they invested that much in a fake website, I feel bad for who they are victimizing...

Sharp hooks ?
Hooks have come a long way from the ones In my dad's tackle box. Owners gammies and mustads are sticky, Eagle Claw has surprisingly came a long way as well. However catching fish and bumping cover takes a toll, so yes I do sharpen OR replace.

Color and fishing or shade and fishing?
Wow did not know that, will try these colors, thanks!

Color and fishing or shade and fishing?
I have noticed flmb to be very color selective and not as active as other species. Do you know anything about crappie and their color preferences, are they like smb and like bright neon colors?

Should I be looking at BFS?
As a bfs fisherman if you are fairly new, dont get into bfs. I urge you not to because the cheapest bfs reel that is solid imo is 60-70, but it's Chinese and it's not great and they have all started squeaking for me and gears gotten loose. The first usdm reel for bfs is 190$, and is a Shimano. Rods aren't much better. In my opinion spinning reels are better for bass than casting for a few reasons,, 1 you are going to struggle with 3/16ths, and 1/8th oz lures and below (casting distance wise) and they will not cast as accurately as spinning. Second you can't cast a bfs reel as far as spinning, third bfs reels Dont have backreeling and if you want to land your pb on light tackle that can be very important. Third being they aren't great for 8 pound line and above because they don't hold much line, so if you dropshot or ned with 8lb or higher, you won't be able to cast your 30 yards you need. Bfs isnt unpractical for bass, but cost wise it doesn't have a significant advantage to spinning, and you can buy a higher quality spinning reel for the money compared to a Chinese bfs reel. I only use my bfs reels for two very very niche techniques, everything else is spinning because it's superior. First thing I use for bfs is small pencil walking baits or buzzbaits/poppers because the faster gear ratio is important. Second I use them for trout flipping and pitching overgrown creeks, if you are finesse fishing in a lake and not using these techniques, you are better off with spinning by a mile. I would reccomend getting a more versatile technique setup instead of bfs if you don't have certain rod techniques already. if you are new you should invest that money in tackle and actually getting on the water. If you are looking for a very solid finesse setup here are my reccomendations, I'd wait till black friday though 50-100$ reels (spinning not bfs) Pfluger president Shimano Sahara Diawa legalis OR regal Lews mach 2 (ONLY 70$ REEL SPORTING AN ALUMINUM FRAME) Rods- so many options many are good but personally I love my lews xfinity and I love pheonix rods, but lews are a little on the heavy side so be aware, also plenty of guys that can give reccomendations Finally if you have money to throw out the window and you REALLY want to get into bfs... Budget bfs reels: kastking zephyr, fishband gh 100, tsurinoya spirit fox. (There are newer ones but I can only reccomend what I have). P.S they are all chinesium. Budget BFS rod: Shimano sensilite, OR acehawk cu double OR kuying Teton ttc. High end bfs reel:Shimano curado bfs High end rod: Sierra rod

Color and fishing or shade and fishing?
This is definitely true, color can be a big player in our lakes
-
Color and fishing or shade and fishing?
Agreed, in clearer water I've noticed color player a huge role, then again I cannot tell you why a brused banana jerkbait works well in the dead of a hot summer day over natural colors in clear water That's a fair assessment, I think it's impossible to know what a basses vision is because we aren't bass, but guessing isn't always a bad idea, because what's the worst that can happen, we are wrong yknow.

Color and fishing or shade and fishing?
Your right, there was a really interesting psychologist I was listening to though and he said that there is no reason to not anthropomorphize unless there is reasonable doubt in doing so with said animal. I know most people here usually are against anthropomorphism. The psychologist was comparing neurochemistry between lobsters that took Prozac and they where more likely to fight again after loosing compared to the lobster that lost and wasn't on Prozac. He said saying anthropomorphism doesn't work is from 1950's behaviorism. Again your right when you say we cannot know for sure, but perhaps anthropomorphism is the only way to get a slight understanding on a animals psyche, compared to no understanding at all. Wow very good visual, so I guess yellow and orange could fall into that wavelength, as well as even pink

Color and fishing or shade and fishing?
Yeah it's very hard to get a good understand on this subject with so many uncontrollable variables. I will say I was bed fishing a lmb for about an hour and the thing didn't even look at my worm, I tore the last gp worm up and threw in a fruit punch red with chartreuse tail and he hit the thing first try, I know this is bed fishing but just something interesting Wow that's very interesting, never knew that to be honest.

Grub vs boottail
Both work extremely well, I have tend to notice the grub works better in clearer water, but it has to be small, then again you can just pick up a Hazendong in 2.8 or keitech fat swing/ez shiner. Both catch fish Both can be fished swimming or dragging bottom, or even burned sub surface, I will say the grub comes through grass slightly better and my paddle tails catch grass on the tail because it's not as streamline, this can loose you bites.

Color and fishing or shade and fishing?
So I do believe that color makes a difference, and have seen it play out time and time again in clear water, with that said, bass are partially colorblind, and are not able to see 100% of the color spectrum. How much do you think it has to do with color, and how much do you think it has to do with translucency of color, shade of color (lighter pigments vs darker pigments) and patterns, stripes, dots, eyes, line, silhouette, scale, flash, and flake. Personally I'm starting to think it leans towards the ladder end of the spectrum a little more, but would love to hear your guys fishy thoughts.

Pond weeds
In my experience pond and creek grass is different from grass in lakes, lake grass is usually milfoil hydria coontail or ducked, ponds can have those, but I have found they usually have more algae than anything else, bacteria is higher in smaller bodies of water because of more life forms sharing a small space (birds ducks wildlife fish etc. That's what I've learned in my pond ecology class. Algae can be in main lakes as too but I have not seen it near as prevelant as in shallow ponds. Also ponds have more algaes and grasses than lakes because lack of current, the more current the less organic matter that can start growing, though this is most prevalent in creeks and man made water features.

BUILT MY FIRST CASTING SWIMBAIT COMBO!
Fair enough, I guess I didn't build the rod now did I lol Yeah went out today, threw them a mile and wasn't to slow or too fast, it's comfortable to palm and the rod doesn't feel overpowered by the baits.

Fall Lure Selection
It has been tough for me, went out for 3 hours and got around 5 bites but no fish, friend caught 7 fish, long story short the fish wanted flash but not vibration, and wanted moving baits, but where not schooling, lots of learning this time of hard for me, fall+the pre spawn have been most challenging for me

New conventional swimbait reel
wow that looks super fun! I really need to step up my swimbait game, ive thrown them a few times, looks like your cardiff 200 casts really well, thats awesome to see, Leaning towards the calcutta (if i find a good used deal) or a new cardiff 200, looks like your having fun
-
New conventional swimbait reel
been looking at a tranx, Was thinking about it, have heard very good things, price to be honest is setting it apart, there are so many used calcuttas here in california from saltwater anglers, tranx's as well but there is more demand for them than the calcuttas, you can find the cardiffs here almost new for 50-40 bucks if your lucky too.

New conventional swimbait reel
Interesting, I have heard quality of abu has gone down

New conventional swimbait reel
That's good to think about, didn't even think about line capacity, will look for a new 300 size reel or a old 250 in good condition.
