  1. oh didnt think of this reel, ill look into it! thankyou! Wow this is truly great information for me, and the video showed off the real really nicely. the shimano SLX is definitely a contender for sure, and I do love centrifugal breaks a lot, its nice that shimano throws them in on their 100 dollar reel. the SLX XT is probably the one I would get over the normal because you can dial those centrifugal breaks in even more for only 30 bucks. the SLX actually sounds way smoother than my reel, I think one of my ABU's bearings are shot, and I have cleaned them really well. One final question if you don't mind is, how long have you had it, and how is the durability? which ones do you perfer? I have stainless steel on a rod I love that is older, but I feel like the SIC hold up better to braid and are more durability to line wear. I personally like the stainless steel rod guides because they are usually cheaper than the SIC guides, and im really hard on rods and break em alot so I buy $50 dollar rods alot
  2. lol, yeah those zinc oxide or ceramic due crack and break easily, maybe braid has come quite a long ways and is alot smoother, I just remember it cutting through my guides of my favorite rod like a saw but when it first came out, never used braid sense
  3. oh lol okay, so it is alright, how do you like the new shimano BFS reel? is that the new one in the US? or is it one of the JDM ones?
  4. Yeah I have some older rods and the braid cut right through the eyes, I dont know if it was the older styled braid back in the day but I was kinda upset about it. I dont really fish braid much anymore except for rods that have those zinc oxide guides or ceramic. I mostly use monofilament because I can do everything with it and I dont need to have 8 rods in the boat. (I also hate stepping on rods in the boat lol) Okay I appreciate the conformation of not using braid, I couldn't really find a clear answer. Oh I will have to check sportsman outfitter that a good deal, ten dollars off ah yes, I have heard rumors of people buying them, I just checked if they sell them and they do, and watched some videos of that just now. They seem to be the real deal
  5. Thankyou for the insight, I appreciate it!
  6. Ah wow I just saw that after you told me, Its a more affordable optian than the tatula but it also comes with aluminum frame, that is really nice! thank you for letting me know about this reel!!!! I hear you, and I understand, I really wanna go to bass pro and hold them but I dont know if they are doing that because of covid Ah I will have to check out the fuego, someone else on here told me about it and it seems to be alot more affordable than the tatula which is nice, will do some research on that! I know, but you have to play devils advacite a little bit yknow lol, plus to be honest, the t wing isnt titanium coated, so would that mean braid would cut through it? maybe but i donno lol Yeah, I just was going to do most medium heavy applications such as spinnerbating and light flipping into light cover. I really just want a true tank that can take beatings, it doesnt have to be super smooth but I want durability because I am a bit rougher on gear, I dont even bother with high end rods because of this reason lol, I put 50 dollars into my normal rods because I break them lol I have a tatula twing and it is nice, I just get nervous because its only stanless steel and not titanium coated, now I have many rods that the guides of the eyes where stainless steel and braid cut right through em, and I get nervous to throw braid on my tatula for that reason. yeah, I have personally never owned a shimano but I have a tatula and it is smoother than my abu garcia. Id say im really just looking for something super durable, and something that wont slip on harder hooksets. Looks beautiful, but probably too expensive for old me lol
  7. So I may very well be opening up the largest can of worms you could imagine but uh, Im looking for a new fishing reel. I am looking in the 100 dollar range and am interested in an aluminum framed reel. Right now I am thinking of the shimano citica, Abu garcia revo X, Lews speed spool baitcast reel 2nd gen, and one of the diawa tatulas. Is shimano the best bet, even though there are only 3 bearings? I know bearings dont quite equate to smoothness but only 3? Abu garcia's revo x seems nice, and I have the Revo STX and like it quite alot Then again their customer service is really poor and wernt really helpfull for questions. Finally I have never fished lews but heard things. Now for diawa I have their tatula and its super smooth, smoother than abu, and you get more bearings than shimano, +the t wing. Which is the best? Ill let you guys persuade me in the comments
  8. wow, I have heard guys like doing this, this is good to know!
  9. Ah, thar makes sense, I think I have been going slightly light on line
  10. Okay this is all very good stuff to known I will start using my heavy action rod and upgrade line size a little cuz im only fishing 12lb
  11. I used to have some personal spots, but here in california with a population counting the the millions, it is very hard if not impossible to find a secret spot. First off, we live in a desert, so there are few bodies of water that are heavily pressured. at least we are blessed to have very large fish due to dfg stockings and long seasons, but a amazing day here in socal is like 2 or three bass lol, if you get more thats rare, or impossible due to the amount of fishing pressure.
  12. okay this is good to know, im fairly new to fishing heavier cover Yeah I do like mono alot, im in college and budget is the name of the game, with mono i can to topwater, worms, cranks, pretty much everything. I will try putting some heavier pound mono on my reels, and will also try a heavier rod perhaps I think i will try this! thankyou for your insight! I think i will try fishing with a heavier pound test, because im only using 12lb, and maybe like 20 or 25lb will prevent bass from running into the cover and loosing them, maybe a heavier action rod will help too, thats what some people have told me at the moment. I think im on the right start thanks to yall ah yes, I have done some flipping with my spinning rod and enjoy it, I will have to do it more, I also have 15lb braid on it as well, but I could try heavier. I also like bright colored lines, I think white is my favorite because im colorblind and it stands out the best lol
  13. I'm using a medium heavy, maybe it's a little too soft I guess Could be, maybe i do need a heavy action rod instead of medium heavy
  14. Ah, interesting, yeah the stuff im fishing is so thick i am texas rigging it because a wacky rig would be covered in grass a ton, and yes yamamotos are so expensive, its getting redicilous, the yum dinger has been working good but I feel like the yamamotos have more flex Im sure florocarbon would be tremendously better for this even compared to mono with its stretchyness, I have always liked mono because its so versatile, you can topwater, treble hook fish, and texas rig fish with it but with this pitching stuff the hooksets are weak lol
  15. wow very very helpfull, I have heard of alot of people doing it, and with medical conditions that dont bode well with heat, this could be a good way to have fun in the dog days of summer, thankyou for sharing your wisdom
  16. Hi, so I have been flipping in 0 to 2 foot of water in shallow wooden structure and thick grass. I have lost a few bass because I am fishing monofilament for my weightless senko's and I end up flipping and pitching. I had a nice bass but he wraped me up in grass before I had the chance to wrench him up and out of structure. Do you think bass will get spooked by braided line with the weightless lures? I just feel it may help because the stretch of mono is killing me
  17. yeah in sandiego their everywhere, I also picked up a shakesphere 7 foot medium heavy with winn grips, it isnt the most sensitive, but it is graphite and its a good beater rod, expecially for only 20 dollars, it isnt as sensitive as my pheonix or TFO rod but, you can tell u get a bite by watching the line,. plus it has a skeleton grip. Walmart has a ton of really interesting lures, plus they have their own fishing brand. They make knock off kaitechs which I have caught a few bass on, you get 5 swimbaits for two dollars, its a fire deal, their called ozark trails. they also got frogs for 2 dollars, which are good, they dont walk amazingly but they look good in water. My favorite is their flukes, a pack of flukes for 1.50. really worth checking out their fishing section.
  18. Ah yes, I even saw this in a walmart, the big one was 20 and they had a 6 inch one for only $10,. they even had three 8 inch shad style huddleston swimbaits for 10 dollars. I think savage gear is on to something
  19. Interesting but makes sense, I will surley try this, thankyou!
  20. HEY! Interesting thing but it must work because special regulation trout areas say you are not allowed you use scents on lures, (Including WD40). Honestly I am sure if a government agency is not letting you use it in special reg areas, it must be doing something yknow. now if thats just for trout or bass, panfish, no idea but, it must work (Also, free scent is in your pickle jars, the brine, that stuff i use for longer worms when dragging slowly in summer!)
  21. Okay this will help me out alot, thankyou, will try a stinger hook
  22. So I know many people dont fish some of these trout lures but, I have a weedless huddleston model and hookups are poor, would it be worth sticking a treble hook on the back, with a short 4 inch leader tied to the shank of the hook?
  23. That makes sense, My old grandfather used to say the bubblegum used to look like a craw coming out and molting his shell from a long winter, (not that he bass fished but he used to keep craws and cook them).
  24. okay this is very very useful information, will try this when I go night fishing this summer, thankyou so much! okay this sounds good
  25. here in Socal summer is just around the corner, and we have crystal clear water. I have always wanted to try fishing larger worms than the standard finesse worms but, will bass be spooked by these large worms in this clear water? I was thinking about slowly dragging them through the grass off of points and dropoffs, but I just dont know if I could get away with this strategy in 30 foot clarity water. If so what colors, probably a green pumpkin or watermelon red? also should you fish it super super slow compared to stained water because the water is cleaner?
