Spreading myself too far?
Here in the Tallahassee area the topwater bite hasn't started yet.So I would try to learn to fish the most versitile bait I can find.To me that would be a plastic toad.Wal Mart has the Stanley ribbit which is the one I use. They have a three pack with one of them prerigged with the special hook they use for around 4 bucks(get the regular one not the high floater). This bait can be used many many ways. The three I use most are: 1)Reel fast and buzz it across the surface 2)Slow your retrive and swim it about a foot below the surface 3)Cast it out let it sink to the bottom, reel as slowly as you can without stopping the reel, crawling it along the bottom The toad is very weedless so don't be afraid to cast it where you might otherwise be afraid of losing your lure, thats where the bass hang out.Lastly frogs and toads are known for catching big bass. Good luck!

Saw Bass trying to eat birds today
Went to my favorite fishing hole today.A flock of birds flew in they were about the size and color of a mockingbird. However these birds could hover like a hummingbird. They would fly down within inches of the water. They attracted some big bass and they made some really acrobatic attempts to catch these birds but I didn't see any of the bass catch them. I threw everything in my tackle box to try and them but they were only interested in the birds.Has anyone else seen this happen?Would also like to know what kind of birds these were. Also thinking about making a remote controlled bird bait.

hollow bodied frogs
What hollow bodied frog/rat/etc gives you the best percentage hookups? For me it's the Manns Phat Rat with the treble hooks wraped around the body, followed by a distant second the Kanji frog.

Flurocarbon
Flukester What knot do you use to join the FC to the braid?

What are your strong points ?
I think my two strongest points are accurate casting and being able to make a soft presentation. The last couple years I have really worked hard on the latter and I think it has made me a much better fisherman. My weakness is fishing deep water.Pounding the shallows I'm fine, but if the fish are in deeper water I lose all confidence.

Fishing After Thunderstorms??
If the thunderstorms are the kind that popup every afternoon like here in FL,I don't think they hurt fishing at all. However if they are caused by a low pressure front the bass will probably develop lockjaw.

Ribbit
I bought a couple packs of these frogs a couple months ago.About a quarter of the time I cast it it would land upside down.I know Iam rigging them right because they come in a three pack with one of them prerigged. I got disgusted and quit throwing them.I have decided to give them another chance.Anyone have a solution or is it something you have to live with?

Learning to fish on your own
What Roadwarrior said. However if you are like me and not patient enough to fish that slowly, get yourself some zoom superflukes in baby bass color.Cast them and steady twitch them back.If they dart back and forth your fishing it right and will catch fish.

Soft plastic Go-To bait other then a senko/stick
Weightless super fluke in baby bass color.

low oxygen levels in lakes
Here in Tallahassee we are in a severe drought which is causing low oxygen levels.I like to fish the small lakes in the Appalachacola National Forest. These lakes have no springs or creeks feeding them. The underlying bed is clay so there is no way for the water to escape. The hydrilla has completely died off.The lillypads are getting sparse and it is almost impossible to catch a bass (although the pickerel seem to thrive in this lifeless water). If you are lucky enough to catch a bass it seems to have no energy to put up a good fight. I'm thinking it may be to late for some of these lakes.I think the only way to oxygenate these lakes is to get a lot of rain and get it fast.

Frog Hog
The part that really got me is where the ad says if you put the attractant on just a plain hook you will catch fish (ha). And they put it in the survival packs of the US Special Forces. If a fish will hit a hook with only frog hog on it that is truly a fish attractant and I've got to try it.I will let you know.

Frog Hog
I dont use fish attractants to attract fish.I use them as a lubricant.I put them on my frogs to make it easier to slide through the lillypads. Also on the hookset you want the frog to slide through the mouth of the bass so the hooks will set properly. Lubricant aids this process. Now if it attracts fish,so much the better.

Frog Hog
Has anybody tried this stuff? It's a frog scented fish attractant.I was messing around on the internet when I ran into it.Some of the claims seem pretty outragous but I ordered one anyway.I really like the fact it comes in a dispenser like chap stick,no need to get it on your hands.Anyway would love to hear any of you have tried it. http://www.fishfroghog.com/

Best time for topwater lures.
I agree frogs are a great night bait.Walk the dog with a weed deamon and then watch out!
-
florocarbon leader
I love fishing braided line but was wondering if I would get more bites if I added a florocarbon leader.Has anybody tried this? What knot would you use to join the two lines?

What is the best color/lure?... No such thin
I use a different approach.I buy all my lures in the color white. It is a great bass catching color itself. But if I want to change colors I carry a bunch of permanent markers and get creative.

What Lures To Have Always Ready?
I agree got to have a frog on one of them.

solunar tables
I don't see much discussion on solunar tables on this board.Does anyone still use them(I see Doug Hannon still does). How much do you believe in them?

Bass fishing is a Science!
Helms, thats a really good point.I've never thought about it that way.I started bass fishing as a kid and gained knowledge through experience and talking to my bass fishing buddies. We learned it a little bit at a time. But now with the internet and all the other resources you can learn it in a very short period of time. However the amount of info can be overwhelming. The one piece of advice I would give to you is to give frog fishing a try.To me it is the most fun you can have bass fishing. For some reason bass hate frogs. The strikes on frogs are often heart stopping and very exciting. They are also a good BIG bass lure.I always start out using a frog, but if the bass aren't hitting it I change to something else pretty quickly.Give it a try I think you will like it. GOOD LUCK
