That is great to hear my friend! I always love hearing of great warranty/customer service experiences. It does help motivate me to gravitate to a Shimano reel and rod next lol

It’s weird to me at least as it may be common knowledge in the world of braid. I spooled Sufix 832 in a neon lime color(it was on sale) and after a few hours of fishing I noticed that the lime coloring is “powdering” the inside of my reel in the guide and belly area. It took me a good hour with rubbing alcohol and Qtips to get it cleaned up, but it was surprising to see how much of it was packed in there. Again, this may be common knowledge with all the “fancy colored) braid but it struck me as odd. I went ahead and pulled it off and respooled with some spider wire stealth braid in moss green color and it is fine. I’m not bashing Sufix at all. It did it’s job well, but it kept building that residue all over my reel and I wasn’t going to clean it off a third time. Edit: sorry I don’t know why my pics keep loading crooked.

I have ordered a lot of stuff from basspro the last week and was able to get the free two day shipping on all three orders and it arrived no issue of time or stock. They would be worth looking into in my opinion.

Lol I hear ya man. My wife loves to fish as much as I do and apparently I need more education on what I’m catching. She has a knacky way of just randomly picking a lure and somehow starts slaying the fish. Every time. I’m not ashamed to admit that either lol I do have my moments though when I can catch em all, but it’s not very often. She is my best friend I enjoy the time we spend together even when she is doing all the winning. No doubt. I did just buy a new buzzbait and a swim jig that I wanted to try out so after I got enough of watching her catching them, I tied on a crank bait and got my one and only bass. We went again today and had the right opposite effect in the same pond. I started with a crank bait as did she, she didn’t get even a bite while I pulled in a couple small bass.

Well what are they then lol She normally owns the trip every time lol

The wife and I were able to both find a beautiful day off so we went fishing at a local pond and I was also able to break in my new Abu Revo SX reel with a Basspro bionic rod. 11 total small mouth caught. 10 by the wife and just one little ole lonely one for me. I was using spinner bait and a Texas rig to no avail while she was pulling them out every other cast with a small crank bait. not only did she catch the most, but she also caught the biggest.

I have a new baitcaster, rod and reel on its way in the mail from bass pro shop as we speak and it’s going to be setup exclusively for T-rigs, buzzbaits, jigs etc. I do enjoy top water fishing with poppers a lot and was wondering do I need to dedicate a separate rod and reel to the top water lures? Also, will braid work top water lures ok or do I need to stick with a mono line?

Yes I did notice that as well friend. I’m scouring the sites and reviews on it.

Update: I was surfing bass pros website and noticed that they had the Abu Garcia Revo SX reel on sale for $119.00!! I went ahead and scooped it up especially with free two day shipping thrown in. Sorry guys, I couldn’t pass that deal up. The Revo SX was a contender to the Lews I posted in the pic so it’s a no brained that I can save the money on the reel and put it towards tackle or the rod. The Rod and braid are still on the table for purchase.

My dad recommended the same thing earlier today for buzzbaits. He said 15lb+ leader which I do every time when I’m Catfishing anyway so I’m no stranger to that.

Thanks guys! I had a good gut feeling about this setup as I was looking at everything and I’m sure it will hold up for the long run. If not braid, would a fluoro work? Or just mono? im buying the braid anyway and I will also pick up a spool of filament just to be on the safe side.

This reel, rod, and braid. This is my first baitcaster setup here. I know I could get by with cheaper stuff, but I plan on having this setup for awhile and want to do it right the first time so to speak especially while I have the money to do so. All in...just a bit over $250. This all fits in my budget and the reviews are pretty darn good on all three. What do y’all think? Texas rigs, jigs and buzz baits for primary use. edit: oh and the rod will be MH and Fast Action at 7’.

I’ve heard about Lews CS being top notch as well. I have emailed Abu in the past to inquire about parts for an older reel and have never heard back from them. Maybe just a fluke, but they never answered and that’s not a killer for me with them either.

That sounds like a good deal you are about to get. I love bank fishing especially in tight quarters with brush. My wife is deadly accurate with her rod and reel too.

I can’t confidently say I like a rod before I have it in hand to see how it feels and handles, but I will definitely keep what you said in mind.I have scoured YouTube for days on “best braid” and so forth and of course every video is the same different opinion lol. I was actually just looking at power pro and sufix brand braid in the 40lb weight and my local bass pro has them on sale right now. There’s so many different “designators” in types of braid and it’s so confusing such as “ kowabunga double, super sport max, power sling ultra, turbo tax wax” etc. Obviously I made those up, but that’s what all the names seem like lol I’ll grab up some of what you suggested with the maxcuatro and go from there and see how it works.

I think I will start with 40 then. Any particular brand you recommend? I only have experience with spider wire and not much experience to boot.
