  1. Purely the Antares / Calais DC 7 4x8 is at the top of my list giving you more flexibilty to adjust to conditions you face on the water and of course reaching out with your cast. One feature that is over looked on the 4x8 is its ability to read the wind something you will not find on the non 4X8 DC reels. Now I must say I have every version in the round and only the 4X8 in the low profile and as much as I enjoy my rounds the Low Profile 4X8 is the winner for me. In my opinion Shimano has kept their best DC technology for their flagship Antares/Calais and will continue to do so. Let me be clear I think they all have a place in your arsenal of reels but when you ask which is "The One" the Antares/Calais gets my vote....P.S. And I really love pitching with a NRX 802C with a CQ 50 DC mounted on it.
  2. In a nut shell the Japanese have a tendency to keep the best for themselves , if you compare a JDM model reel to a USA model you will see what I mean. Not to confuse you but there are reels coming over now that are the same (i.e.13 Shimano Antares). So to some regard you have to watch and see what will come over and what will not like the new Antares DC for example. The best thing you can do is google JDM Fishing and start to educate yourself and ask questions about things you do not understand. Believe me it can be a fun trip to take while you learn more about their approach to our shared sport of fishing . The other big thing to me is lures/baits of all kinds hard to soft , crank baits , topwater, bugs you get my point. Check them out and you will be amazed to see what is available . Color is a big thing to me as over the years I have found that JDM color schemes work best for me. And again they keep the best for themselves so have some fun checking it out and see if it is for you.
  3. Congratulations ....Stella's are very sweet reels.
  4. Since I only own the 2015 50 HG and a BFS HG LTD the drag pounds are 9.9 for the HG and 7.7 for the BFS......So if you are worried about drag go with the non BFS ....I use Conquest 50 and 50DC for pitching and have no problems and they are rated 7.8 (50) and 7 (50DC) ......

  16. You should not have a problem with the HT handle just make sure you have clearance of the spool tension knob after you apply the drag. There is a spacer include with that handle as well. Here is picture of one mounted on a 200 DC.....
  17. Between the Antares and Calais's I own 11 and they are not that hard to work on. Just take your time and be patient, that is the key providing you are mechanically inclined. The fact that you are taking the reel on is a good thing it gives you control over how it is maintained and a confidence in it while fishing with it. Feel free to PM with with any questions and I will try to help you out....
