  1. High end gear is all relative to what one perceives it to be, for one mans definition will vary from another. Case in point you will see posted how a Curado or a Lews Tournament Pro is the smoothest reel they ever used, then yet you may see another post saying it is a Core,Tatula or a Metanium. Of course it continues on to left hand retrieve or a right, split grip or solid and then spinning or a bait caster, all are the best and rightfully so for it is all what we perceive them to be. At the end of the day to me the answer to your question more time on the water and experimenting with different techniques will make you a better fisherman. What grade of tackle you use is all about your comfort zone and we all know there are all different kinds of comfort zones and of course this is just my opinion.
  2. Another one for me was coming upon a Red Squirrel swimming across the lake. Now I know that in itself is no big deal however the thing that got me was it was not consumed by a LMB or a Pike. When the Hen Mallards start with a count of 12 to 14 and end up with maybe 4 to 6 it puts the odds not in the Squirrels favor.....
  3. Looks like you are well on your way to SwimBaiting....25 lb. Trilene Big Game will do the trick also.
  4. I would not make a decision on purchasing a Calais DC based on how many bearings it has, the reel is just to refined for that alone. Yes you could buy multiple reels for the cost of one Calais DC no question about that. Yes you would be buying a reel that will be handed down to your grandchildren if you so choose. And yes you do not have to upgrade the bearings on the Calais DC period.I can attest to the fact it is a very buttery smooth and durable reel for having owned them since they came out eight years ago.Yes I would recommend a Calais DC hands down to you in a heartbeat. However what your needs and wants are is what is important here so you will have to make the decision as to whether a Calais DC is right for you. Here is some reading for you regarding the reel...... http://tackletour.com/reviewshimanocalaisdcreview.html P.S. If you hunt you can find it for less than the 650.
  5. John, You have got it really bad, that Monkey has got you in a strangle hold......
  6. I enjoy the hunt as much as I enjoy the product, at the same time when the deal is there you have to be ready to strike. I would hold off on the 468. considering I paid 475. for my last 50 DC. I also enjoy doing all my own work so my needs are different than others. Over the years I have found vendors that are far more reasonable than the popular JDM ones that are mentioned on the usual sites. With all this said you need to satisfy your needs and wants if 468. is good to you and you need the support go for it........Just my 2 cents...
  7. Nice monster walleye....
  8. Take the time to clean it.....
  9. Woke up to 10 below with a high of 7 today but the good news is the days are getting longer......The sun coming up
  10. Heard this loud crashing coming through the woods when this huge doe appeared, then jumped into the lake and swam across it. She never once hesitated as she just launched herself into the air and came down with a huge splash into the water while never looking back. The reason for all this was she was be chased by Coyotes and once she got to the other side she got out of the water shook herself off and went on like nothing happened....Nature at its finest.
  11. I will wait as well, for you know once they are on the street in full force the price will drop into the purchase zone.

  13. Very sweet reel one you will be very happy with, it is a pure caster...Make sure you play with the wind setting when it is windy out it really does work.....I would not have a problem putting that on a MBR 783C or a 782C.
  14. When you say Calais which one are you talking about DC, 100A or 200A ....
  15. That is one sweet Round Reel....very smooth.
  16. Or finding that bag a few years later stashed away.
  17. You gotta love the 50 size, one sweet little gem.
  18. A good read regarding straight vs down eye..http://www.megabassusa.com/news/tackletour-autopsy-megabass-vision-x-110-seriously
  19. How about 5....It is all because of those d**n little Conquests.
  20. Technology has moved right along including Round Reels, thus making them fun to fish with. They palm very easily and probably are a little deceptive when you look at them from that aspect. With a recessed reel foot they do lay down real sweet onto the rod making them very comfortable to cast with. From the 50 up to the 300 they all have a home in my quiver....I would suggest you try one and see for yourself...The Round Ones minus a few.
