Soft plastics that live up to the hype..
Not sure about the “hype”, but my vote easily goes to the GYBC 5” Senko and Zoom Trick Worms. If that’s all I had to fish for bass for the rest of my life, I could live with it, as I know I’d catch fish.

Pond taken over from duckweed
I disagree. Duckweed removes excess nitrogen and phosphates, provides shade and habitat for small fish and fry, can reduce evaporation, limits photoautotrophic algae growth and can help reduce mosquito larvae numbers. It’s also good forage for ducks. The pond I fish is riddled with duckweed in summer. It can be a pain as it gets on baits and line (even staining clear line), but it hasn’t hurt the bass fishing one bit.

Getting skunked...
Well, to be frank, there’s “I went out alll day Saturday and got skunked” and then there’s “I’ve been out 4-5 times a month the past six months and have been skunked every time.” I think the vast majority of us have been skunked on a day of fishing, used it as a learning tool and caught bass the next time on the water. But if you’ve fished 4 or 5 times a month for half a year with no bites, that’s a lot tougher to take. But, having said that, I bowhunted five years before I arrowed my first deer (a doe) and it was nine years before I put a tag on a buck. That could have been soul-crushing for some, but I stuck it out. Since then I’ve arrowed about 60 deer. Had I given up after the first year of days upon days of no sightings, I’d still be skunked.

Carson Wentz Fans : E•A•G•L•E•S eagles
I’m not a big hockey fan, but Al Morganti was top-notch on hockey stuff. Merrill Reese has that distinctive voice and calls a good game. Eskin is a tool lol.

Carson Wentz Fans : E•A•G•L•E•S eagles
You’re in SE PA and a Ravens fan. You a MD tax refugee? You’re right about the Iggles and Philly. I worked at PHL many years and listened to 610 WIP when I crossed into DE from MD. They bleed Green. They were ecstatic when Wentz was signed and when I left PHL for IAH in June 2019 they were still high on him. Now he’s a Colt. I wish no one luck there lol.

What type of Knot?
I can’t argue with that. I tie an IC most of the time with mono or YZH. It’s fast, easy and pretty darned strong. I’m surprised at times how much force is needed to break 6 lb Berkeley XL on a snag tied with an IC, and if doesn’t always break at the knot. I tie a Palomar on WR hooks as it’s also simple to tie on something smaller to pass through the loop. You da man getting spinnerbaits through that!

Howdy from the Lonestar state
Welcome to BR! I would have said “hi” sooner, but trying to keep my pipes from freezing down N of Houston lol.

Have you thought of moving to a warmer state??
I thought I did, moving from MD to Houston, TX. Until it hit 11° on Monday lol.

Wacky Rigged Stick Worm (5") Hook Size ?
I use a Gamakutsu 1/0 circle octopus hook and a o-ring. On spinning rigs with either 6 or 8 lb mono or 20 lb braid with a 6 lb YZH leader. I think the only bass I have lost bit the Senko but not the hook.

Question for guys who fish straight floro/mono, why do you?
I had a snag on a Neko rig a few weeks ago with 6 lb XL. I was surprised how much effort it took to break the line at the knot. It’s good line IMO.

Post Tornado P.B.
We had a snowdado somewhere in Texas yesterday. Whodathunkit? Congrats on a nice bass and new PB!

Question for guys who fish straight floro/mono, why do you?
Straight Braid- N/A. No heavy weeds Braid to Leader- one spinning finesse rig Straight Fluoro- N/A (no desire) Straight Mono- One BC and two spinning rigs Straight YZH- two BC’s I still like mono. It’s reliable, I know what it does/doesn’t do, and knot strength and ease of tying is great. Right now using 6 lb Berkeley XL on spinning reels and 10 lb Berkeley Big Game and 12 lb YZH on baitcasters.

Deep Freeze In The Deep South
The only tap not working is the cold water in the kitchen. The water line runs up the wall which is against the outside wall. I let it drip but I guess not enough. Hopefully it didn’t burst.

Deep Freeze In The Deep South
Worst winter storm in 30 years in Houston. Figures. 16° and power’s been out since 10:30 am. Glad we have a gas fireplace but boy, do I miss my wood stove! Probably 50° in the house right now. My pipes are likely to freeze. And more freezing rain on Wednesday. Ugh.

TRig Issues
Zoom Trick Worm. Weightless. 3/0 round offset hook. Texposed. Cast it. Let it sink (it does but slowly). You may get strikes on the fall. If it hits bottom, turn reel 1-1/2 turns and stop. Wait a few seconds and repeat. Crawl it across the bottom. I will come as close to a guarantee that you will get strikes.

Your usual fishing spot. How far a drive is it?
Yeah, I had the same situation when I lived in my last home in MD. Always had deer in my yard and good trees for stands, but a development with 1/4 acre lots was on my rear border and it would not have been good to arrow a buck or doe and have it drop in some Karen’s driveway lol.

A dock...and bowhunting off the deck. Sounds like paradise! A boat lift would be great to avoid the wakes if feasible.

You got me beat lol. It takes me one minute to drive from my house to the pond with my inflatable in the bed of my truck. About a 1/2 mile or less. But 75 yards is close!
