  1. See, Thirtysilver? Learned sumpthin’ new on BR already! ?
  2. Trust me. Keep an open mind and you will learn tons on BR. Probably the best outdoors site I’ve ever been on.

  4. Yes, with the Lefty Kreh/Seaguar knot, you have to cut your leader to length first, as after you make the loop and twist it thrice, you pass the tag end of the main line and the length of the leader through the loop and tighten. I normally cut mine about 6’ long. Its not the knot with the the smallest diameter, but I bet it’s the easiest main-to-leader knot to tie that actually works.
  5. LMAO. I’m guessing “yes”!
  6. Wow. Looks like an ad from an issue of Field and Stream I had back in the 70s lol.
  7. In brief, like you I was away from fishing a long time. In my case, about 30 years! A lot had changed in that time. Never heard of finesse fishing, never heard of jerkbaits (they were plugs lol), never heard of a wacky rig. But IMO, change is good. The equipment today is top-notch and there are so many ways to catch bass today it’s mind-boggling. You can use braid with with a flouro leader; I suggest mono to start as it’s simple and one less thing to learn. Spool up some 6 or 8 lb mono, get some Gamakutsu 1/0 octopus circle hooks and 3/0 EWG worm hooks, a couple packs of 5” Senkos and start casting some wacky rigs and weightless Texas rigs and you’ll catch bass. Couple of things: close the bail manually. All my old (45-50 year) spinning reels you had to crank the handle to close the bail. That induces line twist. Cast the lure and close the bail by hand. If fishing a wacky rig, you’ll get most strikes on the initial fall. Watch your line. If it stops before it’s on the bottom or you see it start running out or to the side, lift the rod tip to the 10:00 position and reel the line in tight and those hooks will set themselves. It seems counter-productive not to set the hook, but with octopus circle hooks, the hook will set itself. Good of luck and tight lines!
  8. That’s the ones. The Revros is a great reel for the $$, and I was pleasantly surprised at the sensitivity of the Procyon. It’s a nice finesse rig. Start off with some 6 or 8 lb mono for easing back into fishing without any hassles.
  9. I have a Daiwa Procyon PCYN661MXS rod with a Shimano Sienna 2500 reel. Nice rig for what would suit you. Also have a Daiwa Revros LT2500, which I better. I think you can get them off Amazon for $49.99.
  10. I used 20 lb Sufix 832 and 8 lb YZH as the leader. The Sufix is 0.009” and the YZH is 0.011”. I did not have issues with knot clearance through the guides on my Fenwick HMX66M-FS-2, nor did I have issues when the knot made it onto the spool. But I do not think they are micro guides. I also do not feel that I wasted either main line or leader, and pulling the entire length of the leader (mine was 6’) was pretty simple. I will agree that it may be a little larger than other braid/leader knots, but if your guides allow clearance, it’s very simple to tie and appears to be very strong.
  11. I have a 2500 and just got a 2000 last week. Great reels for the money.
  12. Having met Lefty Kreh several times many years ago, and knowing his reputation, I do not think he would have lent his name to this (or his loop knot) if he did not have faith in them. This knot is done from start to finish in 30 seconds. Easily tied on a boat, and when I got snagged beyond all hope, when I wrapped the #20 lb braid around a stick and pulled, the 8 lb leader snapped at the hook knot (a Palomar) but this knot held.
  13. The new Magic Eraser sheets would probably work even better.
  14. Try the Lefty Kreh (aka Seaguar) knot. Very easy to tie and I found it pretty strong. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GDxGy3Nld2g
  15. Well, it was almost bad when I almost had the gripper slip from my hand as I pulling the bass in the boat. It would have sucked to see a 4 lb’er swim off with my grippers.
  16. Agree with you there! They are also great when weighing bass vs using the scale hook.
  17. Wow. First, awesome bass, whether 19, 20 or 21+ lbs. But still, to find that out after releasing the fish? Good googamoogah!
  18. Between 6-7 lbs on <ahem> 1/2 a nightcrawler on a #6 hook under a bobber. As lures go, a 4.5 lb LMB on a watermelon with Copper and Orange with Red Flake 5” Senko wacky rig.
  19. Do you have any weight on the line or that doesn’t matter?
  20. 1- start fishing in the year earlier (that’s a given as I may fish this weekend lol) 2- stick with lure types that should work longer, and not switch over to old standbys that I’m confident will catch bass after 30-45 minutes of use 3- catch a verified (weighed) PB between 6-7 lbs 4- catch a bigger PB (over 7 lbs) 5- start fishing other ponds or small reservoirs in the area 6- relax and enjoy it no matter the numbers or weights. I love the competition to try to catch more and better bass, but not at the expense of simply being able to be out on the water with a rod and reel. Because 2020 has shown that some (many) anglers will never have the chance to catch any bass again Happy New Year!
  21. Thanks. That LT2000 looks lonely without a rod, though. Darned backorder! ?
  22. I use a Lefty Kreh/Seaguar knot for braid to leader.
