Avoided the skunk!
Man, what a tough day! I started fishing at 7:00 and up until 2:00, I was batting ofer. I had a strike on a spinnerbait early but it didn’t hook up, and I had two on a WR that were weak bites. But I kept at it. Last day of a min-vacation until I take a week off in November for the rut, so I wasn’t quitting. Around 2:00 I swapped sides of the pond and worked my way back towards my take-out point. I was drifting and casting a WR when finally the line took off. Not a big ol’ gal, but I’m glad I caught it! After I got on shore, I walked the bank for 5 minutes and caught two dinks. So all-in-all, a good day!

Question for the pond anglers
I’m having problems just getting bites. Fished from before 7:00 and ended around 2:00. Caught two dinks and missed two hookups. Both dinks were shallow. One on a 5” Senko WR and the other a weightless 9” Mann’s Jelly Worm. The two misses were both on a Zoom Trick Worm TR. All were weak bites. It’s been tough the past month or so. I tried topwater, spinnerbaits, jigs and swimbaits. Nothin’ at all.

Question about using wacky rig in deeper water
If you close the bail ASAP, the bait is going to glide towards the rod vs sinking straight down.

Has anyone ever...
No. But I did hook the back of my shirt with a Whopper Plopper, and only made it worse trying to get the treble out with the shirt still on. Had to take my shirt off in the middle of the pond. I’m sure it looked hideous.

Bass teeth significantly sharper right now?
I’ve had bass thumb before lol. A set of fish grippers eliminates that problem!

That’s definitely an older 300 there. It has the original AR switch.

Fluro or Hybrid Line?
I’ve never used straight FC, but I am pleased with the 8# and 12# YZH that I’ve been using. Two shots of KVD the night before and I’m good to go.

Some advice for getting skunked.
Two pints o’ Guinness removes the stench of the skunk. Sometimes three.

Not sure which model you have, but mine has this fancy silver knob with a numbered color wheel for setting spool tension. The brake is about 2-1/2” long and permanently attached to my right hand lol. So yeah, epic backlashes were the rule when I learned how to cast it lol.

lol. I have one of those, too. My buddy bought a Daiwa Millionaire 5H (the bronze one). I didn’t have as much $$ so I bought a 3H. Still have it and fished with it this spring until I bought new baitcasters. It’s a little geary. I’d like to get it refurbished as well. It will still bomb a 1/2 lure.

It’s noisy and a little rough by today’s standards. But it’s built like a tank. And it is a true classic.

This Shakespeare 2052 was mfg in 1970. This Garcia Mitchell 300 is from the 60’s. I haven’t been able to narrow the actual year down as the serial numbers are hard to read, but I’ve had it since I was a boy. The 2052 is responsible for my PB. I also have some lures that are 60s-70s vintage.

Casting reel uneven spooling
I wouldn’t say “tight”, but it was under tension.

Casting reel uneven spooling
I just got one. Wasn’t overjoyed spooling YZH on a spinning reel, but man oh man it was superb on my baitcasters!

Bass Fishing History
Until I joined BR, I never knew this about Roland Martin: One of those spots paid off big for his Maryland fraternity brother, Chuck Reigner. In 1960, Martin led him to a house foundation in Loch Raven Reservoir, where he later landed the Maryland state record smallmouth at 8-14. Another of Martin’s college friends, Jerry Sauter, caught a 10-4 largemouth out of Liberty Reservoir from one of his spots. I grew up fishing at Loch Raven and Liberty reservoirs (especially Loch Raven, which was a 60 minute bike ride from my house in Baltimore City. I never knew we fished the same waters.

Whats your craziest "catch" that's not a fish?
8 or 10 turtles for sure. A mostly-rotted sneaker. And a pair of black lace panties. Too big for my taste!

Can’t speak to those, but I have a Daiwa Revros LT2500 that I got for $42.99 that impressed the hell out of me.
- Perfect pond with no big bass

Spinning Rods
I recently bought a Procyon PCYN661MXS and so far I am impressed. Sensitivity is very good and the cork grips are really nice. It’s a great rod for the money.

Traveling and sleeping for early morning fishing
The “problem” with 60 is you still want to get at it like you’re 30 (well, maybe 40), but while your mind says yes! your body says no!

Maryland's Who's who!
lol. Smart man! Nice brown bass!
