spinning rod set
Kinda with @roadwarrior here. I have two MF and one MLXF. All with 20 lb. braid to leader. Used for wacky rigs, weightless Texas rigs, Neds and other finesse baits. Everything else is fished with baitcasters.

It’s so easy, Captain Hook can tie it.

Road To The Super Bowl 2023
I’m a diehard Ravens fan. I tossed my nice on-the-field white Ray Rice jersey in the trash. QB’s may be special. But Rice was on tape knocking his wife (then fiancée) out and dragging her unconscious body out of an elevator. That wasn’t alleged-it was documented.

What Line Do You Use With Senko's?
I can’t believe I’ve never replied in this thread lol. I have three spinning rigs. All have 20 lb. braid (two with Sufix 832 and one with Seguar Smackdown). The two with Sufix are MF; the Smackdown is in a MLXF. All have 8 lb. YZH leaders. I use them for wacky rigs and weightless Texas rigs with 4” and 5” Senkos. Most waters I fish are relatively shallow (7’ max depth).

Double uni knot v. FG knot
I use the double uni all the time for braid to backing line on the reel. Simple to tie and effective for that application.

Do you really need to spend $100+ for a good rod?
B-more native as well. Did most of my fishing growing up at Loch Raven/Liberty/Prettyboy/Conowingo reservoirs, as well as catching carp and channel cats at Carroll Island and where Herring Run dumps into Back River. Used to love to go to Wye Mills when they rented rowboats. Nice place to fish for bass and below the dam when the perch were running.

I have two Fenwick HMX rods- a 6’6” MF spinning and a 7’6” HF baitcasting. To be frank, in my opinion, they are darned nice rods! In fit, finish and how they fish.

Help On a New Pond
Wacky rig Weightless Texas rig (Senkos, Zoom Tricks, on spinning rigs; Fat IKA’s, Neko Macho’s on a baitcaster) Jerkbaits Squarebills Whopper Plopper Throw out and work back to the bank. Throw out and work parallel to the bank staying in the same depth (strike zone). I fish a lot of ponds. Those baits and presentations work well for me.

The Live Bait problem
Maybe. Then again, it’s a heck of a lot higher with soft plastics than with, say, a crankbait or spinnerbait. And since shiners are rather large compared to a Senko or Rage Craw, I’d bet soft plastics are probably a higher probability than live bait. Substantially higher.

May be. I’ve posted it frequently lol. Glad iit works for you!

Double uni knot v. FG knot
No. You lay a cut length of 6’-8’ long leader (say 10”) alongside the main line. You make a loop, stick your finger inside and make three twists, then pass the tag end of the main line and the remainder of the leader through the loop. Wet the knot, tighten and trim the tag ends. It’s a knot that takes 30 seconds to tie. I normally tie about a 7’ leader.

Double uni knot v. FG knot
As do I. Simple to tie, hasn’t let me down yet and passes through my guides without an issue.

Swim Jigs ??
That’s a really good description of a swim jig!

MF baitcaster uses
I tossed a 1/8 oz shakeyhead with a Zoom Trick for about 5 minutes at the local pond just to see how it casted. It casted great. Should be good with a jerkbait, too.

Do you really need to spend $100+ for a good rod?
As George Orwell might say, it’s Newspeak for bourgeois. Also known as middle class. In BRspeak, I ain’t got the coin to be blowin’ on $200.0 rods and reels!

And skill level. A newbie fishing a Texas rig with a 1/4 oz. bullet weight likely won’t perceive much difference between a $100.00 vs a $300.00 rod. I probably wouldn’t (maybe). You would for sure.

New rod/reel
If you’re looking for a nice, all around rod, take a look at a Falcon Lowrider All-‘Round Fast MH/F. It’s a great rod.

PRIDE GOT ME !!
One as a kid. Actually, my brother. Closed the car door on my rod tip. Last year (or 2020), I had a Fenwick HMX MH/F snap about 4” from the tip casting a TR. it was a clean snap. Replaced via warranty with a H/F.

You Asked For It
True story. Years ago, when we were living in Delaware for a few years, I was standing in the checkout line at Strawbridge and Clothier with my three year-old daughter. I told her “this is a secret. Don’t tell Mommy what we got her for Mother’s Day!” That triggered a plethora of sniggles and groans from the assorted Karens, and comments like “Mom’s not going to be happy with THAT gift!” and “he’ll be in the doghouse for sure!” It was a vacuum cleaner. A nice one. I looked at the smug faces of those ladies and told my daughter “they don’t know your Mom, do they?” Needless to say, she was extremely happy with her Mom’s Day gift. As I knew she would be, which is why I bought it. You gotta learn what your spouse likes! However, the surprise was ruined. As soon as we got home, my daughter ran up to her mother and whispered, “Mom, we got you a vacuum cleaner for Mother’s Day, but it’s a secret!”

need some help on what to throw
I agree on the squarebill. They aren’t a bad choice for bank fishing.

Best Fishing Store You’ve been in
Oh man. When I was young, I remember three distinct shops in Maryland that were go-to’s. Tochterman’s in Baltimore (owned and operated by the same family since 1916); Johnny’s Bait House in Deep Creek Lake (unfortunately closed in 2003); and Angler’s Sports Center (everyone called it Angler’s 50 as it was basically on Rt. 50) in Annapolis. Lefty Kreh bought his first fly rod from Tochterman’s in 1948. Staying in business for 106 years is a legacy. Johnny’s was THE place in Western Maryland, and who you called for the daily fishing report. And you knew you were almost at the Bay when you hit Angler’s. Great thread for nostalgia.

New rod/reel
I have a Tatula on a 705CB and it is a great crankbait rig. It’s also good with jerkbaits. I’m not overly fond of it for spinnerbaits. Especially with trailers. It’s rated for 1/4-1 oz, but it’s a little whippy with anything over 1/2 oz IMO. Having said that, I tried it with weightless Texas rigs with Fat IKA’s and Neko Machos with a 3/0 EWG and was surprised how well the hooksets were.
