Treble Hook Replacement Help
The stinger 36s are crazy sharp, light and strong for the diameter. I like a heavier wire for SBs and bigger cranks unless I'm fishing in alot of wood. If I get snagged I put enough pressure on the hook to bend it out and get bait back without blowing the spot out. The triple grips are good as well but the bigger sized come jumbles up in the pack so slot of the points are dull by the time you get them. The owners are sharper then the mustads and hold a point longer. The owners catch the fish that slap at the bait better the mustads. The mustads are good when the fish are choking the bait. I put round bends on the tail hanger and the EWGs on the belly and it works pretty well.

Prime months for big bass
Mid fall to early spring when the bigger fish are spawning or going into post spawn are all great times to get a good fish. By far the best time to catch big numbers of quality fish when they at their heaviest is prespawn. The fish are grouping up and aggressively feeding for the upcoming spawn. They are relatively easy to catch especially in wind blown corners as the pressure starts to drop from an approaching front. Bladed jigs are deadly that time of year. They're so versatile, you can fish them like a jig, crankbait or spinnerbait depending on conditions. Be careful with the 10ft if its windy out and try to spread the weight out evenly. If your motor a transom mount get a handle extension. They life much easier.

Favorite M/F 7' ~ 7'3" BC Rod Under $150 ?
I thought I had heard they were coming out with full grip casting OBs, full grip spinning rods are coming this spring. I like cork over EVA especially the lower grade EVA, I think it looks better and its easier to clean. I had a chance to check out the MH 7'6 XF or the MH 7'5 F, I'm pretty sure it was the 7'6, but it felt a little tip heavy to me. The 7'5 H F was a little more balanced, but I'm sure the 7'6 would be fine with a reel on it. I was gonna order the 7'5 MH F Thursday night but I wasn't sure if that was the 1 i handled and didnt like. I have the 7'3 MH MF and I love it so I played it safe and ordered another 1. A local shop got a few of the 7'5s in today, Im gonna check em out tomorrow or Thursday and if I like it, I'll exchange the 7'3 for it. The OB3s are great rods, especially for what you pay for them. Im a big fan of SC, so its hard to admit but I think the OB3s blow both the Mojos away and are as good or better then the Avids. The only problem with the OB3s is that the spinning rods use older looking eyes, which is just a cosmetic thing really. They are light, sensitive, great action and have a really comfortable reel seat. I think your really gonna be happy with your 7'3. They do have a metal locking nut so cover the reel foot with shrink tube or something to protect the foot from being damaged especially if its magnesium or a carbon composite.

How exactly do fish manage to appear in literally every body of water?
That's a really question about the eggs. Ive never heard anyone ask that and I wish I had thought of it lol. I think the eggs are already fertilized before they come into contact with the bird. Otherwise I don't see how they could hatch. There is a tiny pond, about half the size of an Olympic sized swimming pool. Since I started fishing it about 10 years ago there only bass, catfish and a few kinds of sunnys. 2 years ago I started catching small pickerel about 6-8". In just 2 years they went from rare to difficult to avoid.

Rod length
I suppose your right about that in a sense, given the rod is stiff. Which rod would provide more leverage from the point of the fish? A 7ft MH F or a 9ft 4wt. Length is relative, to many people assume that a longer rod will cast farther. When comparing a 6'10 to a 7' of the same rod, the gain in casting distance will be minimal. Sometimes the slightly longer rod may have a longer rear grip section by 1 or 2" then the 6'10, which means the amount of blank aft the reel seat is nearly the same on both rods.

Rod length
The short answer is leverage

Smaller Bladed Jig Trailers for Fall/Winter
I like to avoid using boot tailed trailers when im fishing a CB in post frontal conditions or really cold water. Jackall iShad...It has that thin tail that gives off a subtle action without giving the bait lift Arizona Custom Baits AFG Force... its essentially a zako except its hand-poured and has a little more action Hog Farmer Spunk Shad.. much like a Jackall ishad but has a slightly beefier body Ive used Zooms Fluke Sticks b4 and they work, really just a senko style bait with a split tail on the end

carbon vs aluminum
Carbon composite frames have become popular where you can get away with lighter gear, especially with spinning gear. Its stronger and lighter then the graphite frames of the late 90s and early 2ks. Frogging, A Rigs, deep cranking or anything that requires some torque or locking down a drag I prefer aluminum. If Im slinging clams, bunker heads, drifting eels again or vertical jigging I like aluminum. However you cant just say aluminum is better in all cases because its a preference. Given the choice between an Ultegra or a Vanford to use for bass fishing which one are you going to use? I think the majority of people would go for the Vanford. If the Met B is an indicator magnesium may become far more popular especially if they can work out issues with corrosion in salt water enviroments.

Chatterbait, first expensive rod selection opinions
Obviously its up to you what you want to get. It important for it to be light so you can wing it all day but unless your dragging a bladed jig on the bottom you don't need a super sensitive rod. Fiberglass rods are great but they are little heavy and not very versatile. I like using a slower Fast or a mod fast. If you want to use braid get a slower action rod, if you want to use mono or FC be careful you don't a rod with to much flex. Length plays a factor in rod speed. Longer rods tend to have more tip then shorter rods. So if you go from a 7ft mod F to a 7'6 mod fast in the same line of rods the 7'6 will have more flex especially if the # of eyes is the same. It works the other way too, a 7' F will generally have less flex then a 7'4 F rod in the same lineup. Find out how much your favorite trailers weigh and add that to the weight of the CB you use most often. Look for a rod that is likely to have a sweet spot as close to the combine weight as possible. Personally I throw 1/4s CBs all the time. I actually found that my 7'1 M F Muse is an exclent 1/4 CB rod. It has a slower Fast action, that gives you great sensitivity. When i get a hit the fish feels no resistance from the softer rod. Couple with FC or mono by the time I feel the fish has had plenty of time to get the bait in the back of his mouth. My bite to land % is excellent, about 9/10. The softer tip keeps the hook pinned during the retrieve. The 7'2 MH ModF 13 Omen Black 3 @130$ is a great CB rod and can be used for many other things. Its 36T blank is really light and sensitive and the action alows for bomb casts. They have longer MH Mod Fasts if your looking for a longer rod. Hope this helps

- Slow down baits for cold water
Tight lining a 3" Easy Shiner on the lightest jighead possible is a great way to get numbers and or see if the fish in a given area are willing to hit a moving bait.- Keitech Swing Impact 2 inch Finesse Paddle Tail Swimbait
In the winter a small Keitech on a jighead covers water far better then a DS or ned rig, so I use them kind of like a search bait. The 2 and 2.5 Easy Shiners and Swing Impacts arent just shorter they are considerably thinner, with the 2 and 2.5 swing Impact being about the diameter of #2 pencil or slightly less. The 2" Easy Shiner is about the size the Lunker City fin S shad or Gene Larews split belly crappie baits. The 2 and 2.5" Easy Shiners and Swing Impacts can be used as trailers on micro jigs but IMO they are best on a DS or jighead with a #2 or #4 hook. The 2 and 2.5"s work well for panfish and bass, but the 3" Easy Shiners and Swing Impacts have an advantages. The 3" Keitechs obviously are a little longer but the profile is noticeably bigger so they have a bigger thump and presence in the water then the 2" and 2.5". The 3" baits are heavier which allows you to cast them farther then the 2" and 2.5". There are more colors available in the 3" then the 2"and 2.5". Ive found that panfish especially crappie have no reservations about hitting the 3". My favorite heads for the 3" is the 1/16 #1 Owner Darter Head, Keitech Tungsten Super Round #1 or 1/0, Fish Arrow Wheel Head, Hayabusa Brush Easy Heads #1 and for a weedless EWG, Owner Ultrahead Finesse Ball #1.- Suggestions for Very Shallow Running Jerkbait?
Most of the lakes around me are really shallow and I ran into the same problems. If your using braid, try using a 9 or 10ft mono leader, the thicker it is the shallower it will run. Instead of snapping the rod down when you twitch it snap the rod up. Try these... 06 and 08 X Rap can be fished fairly shallow especially the 06. The hooks arent sharp enough to stick fish that hit while your line is slack, consider upgrading the hooks Lucky Craft Pointer 78 doesn't dive very deep, but if you want it suspend you need to add just a little bit of a suspending strip. Shadow Rap Shad is a slow floater that can be made into a suspending JB pretty easily with suspend dot or strips. Just like other Rapalas the hooks arent the best. The flat sides are great for flash, but fishing in any kind of stiff wind can really hurt the casting distance. Duo Rozante 63 and 77 are both outstanding JBs. Its really effective and can dive 2-5 or 6 feet depending on gear and retrieve. The 63 doesnt dive as deep and has a slightly faster rise then the 77. The sides of the bait are rounded which gives you a little more action on a twitch compared to flat side JB. The 63 and 77 are one of the few smaller JBs that have a super effective weight transfer system that allows you bomb them. These are my favorite JBs to throw in the winter by far. Duo Realis 85 sp JB is an excellent JB for shallow water. The 85 doesnt dive as deep as the Rozante 77. It has a slow float to it but can be modified to suspend. Just like the Rozantes the hooks are stupid sharp, the patterns awesome, but somewhat limited. There may not be a bunch of different colors to pick from, but you wont have any trouble finding a pattern that matches the forage where your fishing. Unlike the Rozantes the 85 has flat sides so it throws a ton of flash and has a tighter wobble. It lacks a weight transfer system but casts really well. Damiki Slim Jack is a really shallow diving JB. Its a longer bait than other JB listed here, but the body is slim so it doesn't have a really big profile under water. The deepest ive gotten it to run was about 2.5 or 3ft. Its has a somewhat quick rise but can be modified easily with lead strips. Out of all of these the DUOs are my favorite and they give you the most for your money. The 85 sp and the 77sp compliment each other well. I would recommend getting the Rozy 77sp and the 85 sp to start. They have different actions so if your not getting bit on one odds are the other will work.- Suggestions for Very Shallow Running Jerkbait?
SSHHHHHH- Shimano spinning reels
You get more for money with a Daiwa then a Shimano if your spending under 200$. I bought my dad a Sedona 2500 a few years back and was surprised that it weighed close to 10oz. The Legalis LT, Exceler LT and Fuego LT would be better options for you IMO. They are as smooth or smoother then the equivalent Shimanos, they have 1 piece aluminum handle that threads in instead of the hex pin on Shimanos, so the handle has a better connection with the main gear. They are considerably lighter as well. You shouldn't have any issues with the rotor or line roller hitting your knuckles. Does the rod your using have a grip that's thicker then most others? How do you grip your spinning rods? How many fingers are forward of the stem? Jumping up to a 3k wont make a big difference in the length of the stem. The 3ks look identical to the 2.5ks but they are just slightly bigger with a wider spool.- Favorite M/F 7' ~ 7'3" BC Rod Under $150 ?
I love my 7'2 MH Mod F Omen Black 3. Its really light, well balanced and has great sensitivity. The tip is soft enough to keep trebles pinned, toss weightless stick baits a good distance and pin a heavy wire hook. Its also an excellent rod for bladed jigs and SBs. It will work for T rigs with braided line and an XG reel but with FC or mono it can be a little soft. The Omen uses the same 36T blank that the Muse@ 185$-220$ uses. I prefer the Omen over my SC Avids which cost about 100$ more. 13 has a good replacement policy. If it breaks they send you a new 1 whether its your fault or not. I really think that the Omen Black is one of the better deals going for 140$.- Choosing between 3 different brands
The Sierras casting rods are good for moving baits, but Im not crazy about them like everyone else is. Never had an ark, but I can 100% that some of the Falcon rods fish like they should cost way more then they do. They have held up really well in tough environments like saltwater.- Favorite time of year and conditions to fish?
Mid-late fall and late winter just as the water gets about 46 or 47 the fish start to feed real heavy as they transition from the winter pattern to prespawn. I have the water mostly to myself and Ive known the few people who fish that early for years. If its got to be one condition, it would have to be just as the rain or snow starts to fall and the pressure is still dropping from an approaching storm in late winter-early spring depending on when the water temp gets in the high 40s. The fish are aggressively feeding and they are close to if not at the heaviest they will be all year. The bladed jig becomes such a versatile and effective bait for big fish and numbers alike.- Scent additives.... Waste of money or worth it??
Scent can definitely make a big difference. It can possibly get a fish to check out a bait that he normally wouldn't look at but at the very least its gives you a little more time to reel down and set the hook b4 he spits the bait. Depending on what kind of scents you use there are drawbacks. Some brands can really make a mess and or stain carpet, clothes, interior and just about anything. Some scents are just straight up putrid and the last thing you want to do is have some rub off of your bait onto the seat of your car, it doesn't go away fast. A buddy of mine carried a big jar of JJs magic in his bag. I dont know if he didnt screw the lid or what but the entire jar leaked into his back seat in July. He had to drive with his windows down for months. Im not kidding when I say this if I was downwind from the parking lot at the lake I could tell if he was there or not from almost 1/4 mile away. So I really think gels are the way to go over liquids for that reason and they also last longer on your bait. Pro Cure makes some great scents, thats what Keitech uses in their baits. The natural scents are really effective and they come in a bottle that doesnt make a mess. I lather up my bucktails and soft plastics when Im striper fishing and it can really make a difference. Just be careful with it, they use real baitfish and what not for ingredients. The only downside is that it can spoil if it gets to hot. I use scents for freshwater bass mostly in the winter. Even if its just for a confidence boost at the very least. Both the MegaStrike and GeneLarews Bug Juice are thick gels that come in bottles that dont make a mess. They don't have a repulsive smell either so if you get it on your hands it washes off easy, but it will stain clothes. Ive been using the same tube of mega strike and same bottle of bug juice for a couple years now so you get your moneys worth. I would suggest keeping them in zip lock bags with the slider as a precation.- Finesse jigs
There are so many good jigs on the market you wont have an issue finding one. If you cant find one with exactly what you want, get some BOSS, Picasso, Dobyns or A.T. heads, find some skirts you like and your set. Kind of sounds like your looking for a unicycle with 2 tires instead of looking for a bicycle...Not sure what kind of head shape you want, other then that I would say look for a flippin jig. A.T. and SK make finesse jigs with bigger hook, A.T. being the bigger of the 2 I think, but they are lighter wire hooks and the weed guards may not be the best for throwing into cover. - Slow down baits for cold water
